Motorola Shadow Passes Through WiFi Alliance

Posted: 30 Apr 2010 09:58 AM PDT

We haven't heard any information about this phone in a long time. If you all remember this phone is rumored to be the Google branded Nexus Two. Recently a device from Motorola, the Motorola MB810, passed through the Wi-Fi Alliance. Apparently this device has the codename Shadow which will likely be changed by the time it's released.

Some rumored specs include, 4.3 inch capacitive touch screen display, full QWERTY keyboard, 8MP autofocus camera, and Android 2.2 and it has Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n. there has been a few reports that this device may land on Verizon, my guess is it will be a GSM device sold by Google and will be the second in the Nexus series of superphones. Only time will tell, these next few weeks should be very exciting for Android lovers that need a powerful device with a keyboard.

Flash 10.1 coming in June, Froyo may follow

Posted: 30 Apr 2010 06:15 AM PDT

Now that Adobe has moved on from trying to bring its services to Apple's iPhone/iPod Touch, they are focusing most of their efforts towards Android. A public demo (once again) of Flash 10.1 is expected to make an appearance at this year's I/O with the program finally being released in June. We'll see how this turns out in June.

We look forward to delivering Flash Player 10.1 for Android smartphones as a public preview at Google I/O in May, and then a general release in June. From that point on, an ever increasing number and variety of powerful, Flash-enabled devices will be arriving which we hope will provide a great landscape of choice.

Froyo is expected to come with Flash integration. So if Flash is released in June, it may come as a part of Froyo at that time. So all you Nexus One owners can rejoice, you will surely receive this update first. The Droid and others should follow.

Dell Aero confirmed to offer all of Google’s apps

Posted: 30 Apr 2010 05:58 AM PDT

The first batches of these handsets that were tested were missing nearly all of Google's apps. Like the Bacflip, this handset was also going to have a few core Android apps replaced by bloatware. The most notable omission was Yahoo Search integration instead of Google's search. Dell has recently confirmed that all of Google's app will be installed on this device.

The Aero will include Market, Maps, Gmail, and search. Although, there's no word on the search provider so there's still a chance it will be swapped out for Yahoo Search. Dell most likely pressured AT&T not to hinder their devices like they did with their first Android handset. The Backflip has essentially been a flop and this is partly due to the restricted Android experience.

G1 gamepad modded from Atari 7800 Joypad

Posted: 30 Apr 2010 05:46 AM PDT

Looks like there are still a few people modding the good ole G1. This time, a user has modded a gamepad controller to work with the first Android device to hit the market. It looks like it works very well also, video after the break.

Unlike the gamepad that we have seen for the Droid, not much is known about this mod. There's no information around the web that shows you how to do this yourself. But if your tech savvy enough you should be able to pull this off as well. All you need is a G1, a European Atari 7800 Joypad and a whole lot of skill.

Vodafone UK Google Nexus One available now

Posted: 30 Apr 2010 04:20 AM PDT

Vodafone UK have put the Google Nexus One up for sale, and there’s no sign of the stock delay reported earlier this week.  The launch marks the first time the Nexus One has been available through a UK carrier rather than demanding buyers import a device from Google in the US.

As for price, that’s likely enough to make US Nexus One owners livid.  Vodafone are offering the Google Nexus One for free with a new two-year contract, as long as you’re spending £35 a month or more ($54).

Black HTC Desire due by end of next week say Orange

Posted: 30 Apr 2010 03:39 AM PDT

Holding out for the black version of the HTC Desire?  Initially promised for the end of April by Orange UK, a combination of volcanic ash and firmware issues have seen the Android 2.1 smartphone delayed.  Now, Android Community tipster Chris has let us know that the black Desire is expected to arrive early next week.

That’s come straight from Orange UK customer services, who told Chris that the limited edition Desire was expected to arrive in their warehouses sometime in the first week of May.  Actual shipments out to customers should take place from “middle to late next week”.

Orange’s product page is here – it still says simply “coming soon – and the specifications for the handset are the same as the regular model we reviewed back in March.  The phone will be priced from free on new contracts.

[Thanks Chris!]

Rumor Alert: The LG Aloha will be Released This May On VZW Renamed LG Ally

Posted: 29 Apr 2010 02:34 PM PDT

I think it's safe to say that if does come true Verizon will have the most impressive Android lineup even with the EVO on the horizon. Most people have been holding out for an Android with power and a physical keyboard, this may be the one all you have been waiting for.

This device was formerly known as the LG LU2300 which then turned into the Aloha. It has a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 3.5-inch AMOLED touch screen at 480×800 pixels, QWERTY keyboard, Android 2.1, 720p video out, 5MP camera and D-Pad. According to AndroidCentral, this device will be released in the middle of May. If this is correct, more information should leak soon.

Verizon Droid Incredible by HTC Available Today but It’s Already Sold Out Online

Posted: 29 Apr 2010 01:20 PM PDT

The Incredible is available in stores today.  Stop by your local Verizon wireless store and play around with the demo unit. Unfortunately if you didn't preorder, that may be the closest you will get to possessing this phone. Verizon is reporting that this phone has been sold out.

Verizon expects to have more units by May 4th. Lately HTC has had problems keeping the HD2 and the Desire in stock. There were even reports that the Nexus One was sold out for Vodafone. Maybe HTC didn't anticipate this many people wanting these devices? Whatever the reason they need to pump out a bunch of phones and do it quick.

SkyFire 2.0 Brings Another Way to Get Flash on Android [Video]

Posted: 29 Apr 2010 11:36 AM PDT

When SkyFire (the maker of the mobile browser of the same name) picked up Kolbysoft — who developed the mobile browser called Steel, everyone was wondering what the purchase would bring. A few short months later, and we get to see the fruit of their labor. SkyFire 2.0 has officially launched on Android, and with it, a couple of features that Android-users should welcome with open arms.

Features wise, and as the title suggests, SkyFire 2.0 brings Flash Player to your Android device. As it stands right now, until Froyo hits the market, it seems that HTC’s Sense UI is the best way to access Flash content. That is, until now. SkyFire 2.0 offers Flash in a very different way: by utilizing the other excellent feature known as SkyBar. When you access a page with a Flash video on it, you simply hit the Menu key, and it will bring up the SkyBar. This bar will give you access to “videos,” which is a quick way to see the Flash videos that would normally display on the page.

This means that pages should load a bit faster, as they won’t have to render the video in the page, while it loads. Just hit the SkyBar, and access the video whenever you want. The application is available right now in the Android Market, so if you’re interested, go take a look. If you’re still skeptical, check out the video below and see what all the talk is about. Full press release below.

Skyfire Launches the First Flash Video Enabled Mobile Browser for Android

The first 'mobile browser for the Social Media generation' eliminates broken links from your Facebook stream, tracks Twitter buzz, and makes sharing easy

Mountain View, CA – April 29, 2010– Skyfire, maker of the award-winning web-browser for mobile devices, today launches Skyfire 2.0 for Android, making the mobile internet experience faster, Flash-enabled and fun, with media recommendations and social features. Skyfire is one of the fastest growing mobile browsers in the world, ranking in the top 10 all-time apps in the Nokia Ovi Store and Windows Marketplace.
Skyfire 2.0 for Android is built upon many of the popular features of Skyfire's 1.0 browser, and uses cloud computing to give a "booster engine" to mobile phones so they can handle rich media like video. And now, Skyfire 2.0 for Android takes mobile browsing to a new level with the addition of the SkyBarTM, a new toolbar that lets users enjoy millions of videos previously unviewable on mobile, and also discover the latest buzz on any topic they browse.

What is the SkyBarTM?

The SkyBar brings the best of the internet to a mobile user's fingertips, without any additional searching. By activating the SkyBar with a single touch, users are given access to Flash videos on a web page that otherwise would not play, related content recommendations, and easier sharing with their social networks.

· Video –The "Video" icon enables users to play millions of Flash videos around the web that otherwise do not play on mobile. This unlocks content trapped behind those error messages with question marks and blue Legos. Behind the scenes, videos are translated into a format easier for the phone to play, like html5 video.

· Related Content – The "Explore" icon brings the most relevant content on the internet to a user's fingertips based on what they are viewing at the time. The Explore button pulls video, buzz, news, images and other sites from the web based on what is on the current page.

· Sharing – The "Share" icon lets users share any article or video easily to their friends on Facebook, Twitter, or by email and SMS messaging, adding a comment, and all with a single click.

The first mobile browser for the social media generation:

"Skyfire 2.0 was built for the way people use social media and the web today. People are now starting their web experience by scanning their Facebook and Twitter news feeds," explains Jeff Glueck, CEO of Skyfire. "Our new browser allows you to open those links and view the videos that your friends have shared. To make that work, people need a browser that can handle the full internet."

The Power of Cloud Computing:

Skyfire on Android uses cloud-computing technology to enable this web video; the benefits for consumers include faster and smoother video playback, and extended battery life by offloading more of the work to cloud servers. At the same time, since Skyfire 2.0 is built on a webkit core, users get all the functionality they know on the default Android browser, such as pinch to zoom, copy and paste, find text on the page, open up to eight browser tabs, and more.

Skyfire is one of the fastest growing downloadable browsers with usage increasing 500% year over year, and currently streaming over 25 million minutes of Flash video every month, more than any other mobile browser worldwide.
