HTC Legend coming to AT&T or Maybe Canada, according to FCC

Posted: 04 May 2010 10:31 AM PDT

There's no doubt about it, the HTC legend is one of the most beautiful devices ever made. It's all aluminum unibody design with rubber accents are some of the best designs we have seen in any mobile device. It has recently cleared the FCC with AT&T 3G bands. Those of you in Canada know AT&T and Rogers shares the same bands so where this will land is anyone's guess.

The FCC filing is for a phone that operates on the 850 and 1900MHz WCDMA bands. This band is shared with AT&T, Rogers, Bell, and Telus. So this device could land on either one of these carriers or it could potentially hit them all. It would be great to see the successor to the original Hero land in the US even if it does end up being stuck on AT&T.

SUGARSYNC SWEETENS ANDROID APP; ADDS GERMAN TO COMPANY'S EXPANDING INTERNATIONAL PORTFOLIO

SAN MATEO, CALIF., May 4, 2010 – SugarSync Inc., makers of the award-winning SugarSync file sync, backup and file sharing service, today announced that three key updates to the SugarSync service will roll out tonight: SugarSync for Android 3.0, SugarSync in German, and an upgrade to the core service.

"The demand for cloud and device sync services is growing exponentially as consumers and professionals purchase secondary devices such as smartphones, iPads and netbooks," said Laura Yecies, CEO at SugarSync. "Rapid innovation is essential to keep pace, and SugarSync is rising to the challenge by focusing on delivering ongoing upgrades that achieve a singular vision: make cloud-based sync easy for everyone."

SugarSync for Android 3.0 features a redesigned interface, making it easier and faster than ever for people to remotely access, sync and stream all of their files, photos and music to their Android devices. Aside from the new aesthetic and flow, conveniences such as e-mail auto-complete for sharing files, new visibility into file upload/download transfer status, and photo detection were added. Details are available here.

In addition to the new Android app, tonight SugarSync will launch in German, augmenting SugarSync's ongoing international expansion. SugarSync previously launched Chinese and Spanish in late 2009. Japanese is anticipated imminently.

SugarSync is also releasing an incremental upgrade to the overall service, with multiple features to enhance performance and streamline syncing, add new convenience tools, and enhancing the discoverability of key SugarSync features.

The most apparent change is a new Getting Started feature in SugarSync's Web application, a version of SugarSync's popular mobile game launched last year. The new version empowers SugarSync users to earn an extra 250 MB of free space simply by trying out SugarSync's most valuable features.

Getting Started offers tutorial-style instructions and additional feature detail on key areas such as Shared Folders and Public Links, making it easy for both new and existing users to discover features and get the most out of the service.

* Photo Public Links: Create a Public Link (direct URL) to any single photo directly in any photo album, making it even easier to share a photo via Facebook, Twitter, IM, email and more.
* Optimized boot-up: SugarSync's new desktop client will now utilize fewer system resources when a user boots up their computer. (New desktop client to be phased in over the next week).

"We listen closely to our users and to the sync enthusiast community at large, and are always striving to optimize the SugarSync experience – in big ways and in small," said Yecies. "In the past year, we've launched many of the most requested mobile apps including iPad, plus enhanced our unique selective sync, launched an augmented Business version, and opened up our core platform and Android cloud APIs to third-party developers. It's been an active time, and we've only just begun."

To highlight SugarSync's advantages, last week the company launched a new promotion: new users can earn an extra free 1 GB of space simply by sharing on social media which feature encouraged them to try the service. SugarSync’s referral program also offers users the ability to earn up to 105 GB of free space through friends-and-family sign-ups. The new offer is available at http://www.sugarsync.com/sync-outside-the-box.

Encipher Android based tablet heading to Nigeria

Posted: 04 May 2010 07:42 AM PDT

As of late, tablets have been popping up all over the place. These manufacturers are hoping that they can cash in on some of the success of the iPad. Most of these Android tablets are more powerful and have more features but getting them to sell like Apple does with their products is tricky. Encipher now has a new Android tablet being released for Nigeria, this is a low end type of tablet.

Specifications:

* VIS8505 400mhz
* 16GB HDD
* Camera
* LCD: 7″ 16:9 aspect ratio, 800*400 resolution
* 512RAM
* Wifi:802.11 b/g.
* External 3G( means one can use their existing USB mobile broadband with the device).
* Android 1.6.
* 35mm jack, HDMI output, support for TV-OUT, USB2.0, SD/MMC card port,
* Accessories: User manual, HDMI cable

This tablet will not be a marathon device. It's expected to last 4.5 hours while standing by and 2.5 hours of use. These numbers hopefully are exaggerated and it lasts way longer than that but if they are dead on make sure you have your charger handy. With numbers like these this thing will always be tethered to a power cord.

LG Ally site goes live with limited specs

Posted: 04 May 2010 07:31 AM PDT

The official mini site for the LG Ally is now live, a few specs come along for the ride as well. This device will be hitting shelves real soon. Verizon has been rumored to be the carrier of this device since we first heard about it.

The best thing about this phone is it seems to have come out of nowhere. We knew about the Aloha releasing soon but none of us expected it to come this fast. Most of the important specs have not been released so this device could be a low-end handset or it could be a beast. We do know it will have Android 2.1, a 3.2-inch screen, 3.2 megapixel camera and the usual Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi. The Ally will come with Life360, Wikitude and Hoccer preinstalled. There's also going to be an augmented reality app and possibly some goodies from Iron Man 2.

The Moment 2 Passes the FCC?

Posted: 04 May 2010 07:20 AM PDT

Usually when a handset passes the FCC it's really close to being released. The Samsung M910 is expected to be the Moment 2 and it has just passed through the FCC. Looks like the original Moment will have a short lifespan just like the HTC Eris. Hopefully 2.1 still get pushed to both of these devices, Sprint has pretty much confirmed the update for both their current Android devices so it's now a waiting game.

The folks over at AndroidGuys uncovered some of this juicy information on the rumored Moment 2As far as specs goes there isn't much to go on. We do know it has a full QWERTY keyboard, it will ship with either Android 2.1 or even 2.2, depending on what's out when it's released. Other rumored specs are, 1 GHz Cortex-A8 processor and a 3.5 inch AMOLED. Of course Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and a microSD card slot will be included. We'll stay on top of this and let you know when more specs are announced (rumored).

Thumbplay Music Available now

Posted: 03 May 2010 05:30 PM PDT

Thumbplay music is a popular service already available for BlackBerry users, now it looks to expand by added support for Android. It's a cloud-based subscription music service that plays unlimited on-demand listening to over 8 million tracks from some of the top artist in music.

Thumbplay Music includes its own in-app media player and boasts several compelling features, including:

* Unlimited, on-demand access to any artist or album; millions of songs to choose from
* Build a personal music collection with Favorites and effortless Playlist creation; auto-sync between smartphone and PC/Mac
* Online and offline access: No connection? No problem! Listen to music on the subway or in-flight. Available anytime, anywhere. (Offline access currently only available on BlackBerry devices; coming soon for Android.)
* Playlist Genie for music discovery: Instantly generate customized recommendations from favorite songs
* Search: Find music by artist, song, album or genre; includes free previews of all songs
* Import existing iTunes® playlists within Thumbplay Music's companion desktop app. With a few clicks, recreate iTunes playlists and have them available on smartphone and PC/Mac.
* Free, "no strings attached" three-day trial; subscriptions are then available for $9.99/month.

This is the first app that I know of that off iTunes integration. So if that was one of your reasons for not getting Android devices, that's now gone. The subscription is close to all the other streaming music apps out there so go try it out and see how you like it.

Acer Liquid E to be Priced at $49.99 from Rogers

Posted: 03 May 2010 05:18 PM PDT

This June, the Acer Liquid E will be launching for $49.99 on Rogers Wireless. All you have to do to get this get deal is sign away 3 years of your life.   Off-contract, the phone will be costing customers $349.99, and that's not a bad deal. I would opt for the full price rather than being stuck with the same phone for 3 years. As fast as technology moves, this phone will be dated by the time you're a third of the way done with your contract.

This phone has a 1GHZ Snapdragon under clocked to 768, most likely that was done for more battery life. It also has 512 ROM, and 256 MB RAM. It also has five home screens, Live Wallpapers, quick contact links for social networking and 3.5-inch WVGA touch screen. For those of you that like FM radio it's there as well and there's a5MP camera, Wi-Fi, GPS. It's a pretty good device, I hope it make its way here to the US soon.

Mysterious OTA for The Droid Incredible fixes Exchange bug

Posted: 03 May 2010 04:53 PM PDT

Most of you may have been unaware about the OTA that you received on your brand new Droid Incredible. No, it wasn't and upgrade to Android 2.2 as much as we would like to see that. It was actually maintenance OTA to fix Exchange.

It was discovered that customers using Exchange for corporate email may find when an email is opened that has no recipients in the CC field, unintended recipients email addresses can sometimes be added into the CC field from previously received emails when the user selects the reply all function. The update that is being pushed to customers is to correct that issue. THIS ONLY IMPACTS EXCHANGE Users (corporate users).

The statement above is from Verizon regarding the unannounced OTA. If you was hoping that this would fix your random reboots, sorry, it doesn't. The new 1.22.605.2 CL161494 software build merely fixes a bug in Microsoft Exchange support. This update was only sent to corporate handsets so don't feel left out if you didn't get it yet. There may be another OTA around V that fixes the email bug that enters the wrong address from time to time.
