Toshiba Thrive Shown off in Neat Video, Even Giving a few Tablets away for FREE Posted: 28 Jun 2011 11:07 AM PDT Apparently Toshiba really likes their new Android 3.1 Honeycomb Tablet and they have made what looks to be one of the best hands-on and unboxing videos I’ve ever seen. Full of animation and CGI this is definitely worth the watch. The video covers most of the specs of the device so my job just got really easy and I just will show you the good stuff I guess. After you watch the amusing video don’t forget to check out the source link and enter for your chance to win your own Toshiba Thrive.
The Toshiba Thrive is packed full of features we all know and love like a 10.1″ Display, and that dual-core Tegra 2 CPU we have been seeing everywhere lately. Like I said the video below covers most the specs so go ahead and check it out. To see more info about the Thrive click here. After you’ve watched the video a few times and found all the little CGI effects and cool tricks they’ve done make sure you head over to the Official Contest Page linked down in the source. Toshiba will be giving you lucky readers a chance to win your very own Toshiba Thrive Tablet for 4 weeks. Apparently you need to share the video with everyone and everything you know and maybe you’ll win your own. [via Toshiba] ) |
Android Robot Mini FM Radio and MP3 Player with USB and MicroSD Support Posted: 28 Jun 2011 10:46 AM PDT Today we have a little surprise for all you die hard Android fans or collectors of Andy gear. From Marvel Digital we present you with the Android Robot Mini Radio and MP3 Player. Designed just like a Android mini collectibles this has USB support, comes with a 2GB MicroSD card (supports up to 8GB) and has a built in speaker and some pretty nifty controls to keep the design simple and elegant.
This radio, mp3 player, and speaker will work with USB, Micro SD. As well as playing music from a Android phone, PC, Laptop, Tablet, and dare I say it — iPhone or iPod. If I saw an iPhone using an Android speaker I might just lose it though. We have some videos for you to see it in action as well as some specs and details below. Features: -Chromatic flash lights around the neck part, fantastic when used at night. They claim it has great standby battery life and up to 5 hours of actual playtime. As you can see from the videos below you can pause/play by tapping the head, you twist to change song or FM station and you twist and hold in either direction to turn the volume up/down. It might seem like odd controls but you know it’s cute. I’m sure they were trying to keep the original design clean and simple as possible and I think they’ve achieved that. They come in both Green or Black and start at $25.00 for the 2GB version and they also offer 4GB ($29.50) or 8GB ($38.50). Check out the videos to better understand the controls and then head down to the source for more details and to buy your very own. [via Marvel-Digital] ) |
[Deal] Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 32GB only $529 as eBay Daily Deal Posted: 28 Jun 2011 10:18 AM PDT If you’ve still been debating on what tablet to get this deal might help you out a little bit. I’m sure you’ve debated over what tablet you’d like the most and if you wanted to spend the extra dollars for the amazingly thin and light Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 or just go with the Asus Transformer. Today the eBay Daily Deal is the Galaxy Tab 10.1 for the low price of $529, compared to the regular and Best Buy price of $599. Basically you can get the 32GB for only $29 more than the 16GB version. What a steal!
Ebay Daily Deals are always pretty solid, I know some people have swayed from ebay recently but they choose daily deals pretty carefully. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 from eBay will be $529 and have free shipping, that is $70 less than retail. In case you’ve somehow missed it feel free to check out our Galaxy Tab 10.1 Review. I’m sure you all know the specs of this device by now and you’d know if you read the review I just linked to above, but here are the specifics again: 10.1″ beautiful display, 1 Ghz dual-core CPU, 1GB RAM, front and rear cameras, Android 3.1 Honeycomb and more. If you decide to buy one and need some accessories check out all the accessory options here. [via eBay Daily Deals] ) |
HTC Staying True on Their Word, Working Hard to Allow Bootloader Unlocks Posted: 28 Jun 2011 09:48 AM PDT I know HTC and the bootloader issue has been in the news off and on as of late, but it seems lately they have been answering more tweets and Facebook posts regarding the issue. Just this morning we noticed three responses all regarding bootloaders in a row on Twitter, and even a few on Facebook as well. At least HTC is actually updating the public and giving us hope that this change is coming soon.
When the Sensation 4G launched HTC gave us a few remarks and occasionally we see a little comment here and there but it looks like things are coming along over at HTC because the last few replies I’ve seen look promising. Here are a few of the comments today:
That top reply in the photo above I especially like because they mention, “Stay tuned for more info”. I’m just hoping we don’t have to stay tuned for long and that they will be able to release this unlock update sometime early summer. My guess would be sometime in July but you never know as these sorts of things take time. Once they give a little the dev community will be in a mad dash with it so get ready for the craziness. [Deals] Wirefly Offering 20 Android Phones FREE, Including Droid X, EVO 4G, myTouch 4G Posted: 28 Jun 2011 09:18 AM PDT I know Wirefly has been known to offer a few good deals in the past and often lowering prices on top tier phones to beat out the competition but this is an entirely new level. Just yesterday they were selling the speedy Droid Charge for $129 but today they have kicked it up a notch and are offering 20 Android Smartphones for FREE. Yes 20 phone all for free, but there is a small catch.
The small catch is this is for NEW subscribers only. That means if you are wanting to upgrade your existing plan, or upgrade your phone on an existing line these deals do not apply to you sadly. We know plenty people are looking to save money and possibly switch carriers so these deals are amazing for them. Remember if your out of contract you can cancel for no ETF and start a new account and get in on the deals. Otherwise if you are switching carriers or if I dare say getting your first cell phone these deals are for YOU. Wirefly is offering 20 Android phones all for FREE, you must be a new subscriber and opening a new account with a 2-year contract to be eligible. Some of the free phones include: Motorola Droid X, HTC EVO 4G, myTouch 4G, EVO Shift 4G, Droid 2, Motorola Cliq, Samsung Transform, LG Optimus and even the Kyocera Echo. The list goes on but those are just a few that jumped out at me. If your interested in any of those phones head over to the deals page via the source link below. [via Wirefly] ) |
TAG Heuer LINK Debuts as $6700 Android Handset Posted: 28 Jun 2011 09:13 AM PDT SO you’ve got your eye on that $600 Galaxy S II, yes? Think that costs a lot of money because you’re getting it off-contract before anyone else in the United States, yes? Try this one on for size: Swiss watchmakers TAG Heuer have whipped up an Android device so exquisitely constructed that it’ll set you back 4700€. That may SEEM like a lot of cash, sure, but what you get is a smartphone constructed of no less than 316L Stainless steel, Gold, Diamonds, Black PVD, Titanium, Rubber, Calfskin leather, Carbon leather, Alligator and Lizard skin.
And of course your next question should be: what version of Android is it running? Ice Cream Sandwich? Some advanced version of Android even further down the line – maybe Android 5.0 Julep or something? No way – Froyo it is! With a custom UI over the top – hackers, lets get this ported asap! This device features a “bar type” touchscreen form factor – which is just a different way of saying Candybar shape, like we’re used to, and the weight runs in at 200 grams. You’ll be able to pop in “any SIM card”, or so they say – it’s running on Edge & HSUPA working with 3G, has 4 Band GSM/Tri Band WCDMA, AGPS, Wifi, WAPI, and stereo Bluetooth. This device, believe it or not, was approved by Google, and therefor has the Android Market upon it. You’ll also get your favorites: Google Search app, Google maps, Gmail, YouTube, and a lovely new oddity E-Blogger. The display is a 3.5-inch TFT LCD, and the resolution is 800×480 pixels. The TAG Heuer LINK has a standby time of up to 330 hours (14 days) which means it’s packing one gigantic battery, (though the 1400 mAh spec we’ve got here may disagree), and it’s got a 5-megapixel camera on the back. You’ll be able to work with JPEG, GIF, and BMP images, and you’ll be able to listen to sound files tagged MP3, AAC, AAC+, RA, and WMA. SMS, MMS, and of course email will be working just fine, and the entire unit sizes in at 118mm (H) x 67mm (W) x 16.6mm (D). Also internal memory is 256 megs. Sort of an oddity there, wouldn’t you say? Behold some fine writing from the folks at TAG Heuer:
You’ll only be able to purchase this device starting in July at TAG Heuer retailers – that means watch carriers and the like.
The design of this device makes is shockproof, airtight, and of course chic. You’ll have a choice between steel, titanium, or 18k rose gold, and you’ll be able to choose between rubber, alligator, leather, and more. The device is also water-tight and with the Gorilla Glass display, you wont be busting this device any time soon. |
HTC Status Coming Soon: ChaCha in Purple and Black! Posted: 28 Jun 2011 08:39 AM PDT Remember yesterday when we dropped a truth bomb on you with the post entitled LG Optimus Skittles? Well it turns out that the colors march on. Here comes a couple more colorways for your ever-loving HTC ChaCha, this time released on Canada’s TELUS Mobility mobile carrier, some fabulous blacks, blues, purples and highlights in pink! How ever could you resist this little monster now? You can’t. Don’t resist.
Now if we could only convince HTC to supply all carriers of this device with all the different colors, we’d be in real fashion business. This situation also harkens back to the most recent post on HTC leaking a bit of info on their supposed “smartphone for women” in the HTC Glamor. All the colors under the sun with slightly less awesome specs inside. Sound like your cup of tea, ladies? The ChaCha on the other hand has the same specs inside with different colored hard plastic on the outside. Better to identify the countries this way I suppose. If you’d like to pick one of these devices up, head over to TELUS and tell us what they say when you tell them that Android Community told you to tell them to bring these colors to the USA. If you’d like to see a full review of this device, head down to our HTC ChaCha Review and note that this is a review of the Euro edition of the device. The USA version of the device is not yet formally announced, but we can expect to see it VERY soon, if you know what I mean, to AT&T with supposed hardware tweaks beyond the coloring. Which color is your favorite thus far? ![]() ![]() ![]() [via Mobile Syrup] ) |
Facebook for Android 1.6 adds video upload capability Posted: 28 Jun 2011 08:29 AM PDT
The updated app will be welcome by hoards of Facebook users that also have an Android smartphone. There are over 250 million users of the social network today and about 65 million of that number actively use a mobile device and app to access the network. The Facebook app is also the second most popular for users with 45% accessing the app every 30 days with the app. The top app for Android users is Google Maps. The new update should be on the Android Market right now for download. What new features would you like to see in the next update of the app for Android users? I bet many people will use the video upload function of the updated app. [via FierceMobileContent] ) |
HTC Taiwanese Recruitment Video Reveals Glimpse of Future Devices Posted: 28 Jun 2011 08:27 AM PDT It’s always enjoyable to see new devices, especially when they’ve got a chance at running Android, and ESPECIALLY when they pop up out of nowhere when you least expect them. Today we happened upon some drawings being done over in Taiwan by the HTC crew rolling out a recruitment video attempting to grab some new minds for one of their ideation centers. This video comes straight from HTC, so we can’t imagine that the images you see below are TOO secret, but they’re fun to glimpse at nonetheless.
You’ll see in the gallery below a couple of early looks at the HTC Pyramid (a device we now know turned into the HTC Sensation) as well as what appears to be some drawings of different iterations for the HTC Salsa and ChaCha, both of them the Facebook phones we now know and love. There’s also quite a few instances where there’s an HTC device we cannot identify. Check out around :28 for some wireframes of a new looking device, see around :38 for what appears to be a Verizon QWERTY side-slider, :48 has some interface design looking like they’re going to keep integrating widgets into the lockscreen, :50 for the Desire S(?), and right around 1:10 for a few HTC devices with a big honker of an earpiece. Do you recognize any of these devices as already existing, or can you tie them to products you may have heard about possibly existing in the near future? HTC always comes with the heat, especially this year upon the bringing of the battle to Android with a slew of new devices, almost every single one of which we’ve now reviewed in one way or another. Hertz UK app for Android debuts Posted: 28 Jun 2011 08:06 AM PDT If you travel a lot for business or pleasure you know that most of the time if you are in a city for a long time you will need a rent car. Hertz is one of the largest car rental agencies in the country. The company has had an iPhone app for a long time and has now announced a new Android app that will help people that rent cars frequently get one when they need it. The app will run on any Android device with 1.5 and up.
From the app you can find Hertz locations nearby. The location finder will show you on a map where the locations are in relation to where you are at the time. Once you find the location you want you can make a reservation for a car right from your Android smartphone. You will need a Hertz Member Number for the reservations function to work. The app will show you all the cars that are available. It will also offer you discounts right on your phone as well. Too bad you can’t return your car using the app that is one of the biggest pains for me. You can get the app on the Android Market right now. ) |
Nook Color gets exclusive Angry Birds character in store and Magic Places enhanced play Posted: 28 Jun 2011 07:52 AM PDT The Nook Color Android-powered eReader didn't start out to become an Android tablet. However, it didn't take long for users of the Color to start hacking the device to get all sorts of features that Barnes & Noble didn't expect. That led to B&N offering new official support for email and games like Angry Birds. Nook Color users are now able to get a new exclusive character in stores and get “Magic Places” enhanced game play as well.
The game will offer a free unlock for the Mighty Eagle character for in-store play only on the Nook Color. The Mighty Eagle won’t cost the Nook Color users anything when used in the store. Over 700 Barnes & Noble stores will be Magic Places. These places will offer free upgrades and rewards. The app for the Nook Color sells for $2.99. The update will start to roll out this summer but the exact time is not announced. Considering that a bunch of people buy smartphones based on if it will run Angry Birds, I wonder how many hard-core fans of the game will get a Nook Color just to get the special B&N upgrades and features in the game. ) |
AndyPad and AndyPad Pro get brief hands-on treatment Posted: 28 Jun 2011 06:28 AM PDT Paul over at Andoriod.modaco.com got to spend a bit of time playing hands-on with the new AndyPad and AndyPad Pro. The standard AndyPad will land for £129 and the AndyPad Pro is pegged at £169. Both of those prices include shipping. We already know the hardware details on the Android tablets with each getting Rock Chip 1.2Ghz processors, 512MB of RAM, and mini HDMI outputs along with microUSB and 3.5mm headphone ports.
The AndyPad gets a 7-inch WVGA screen with resistive tech and the AndyPad Pro gets a larger 7-inch 1024 x 600 capacitive screen. Other key differences include the AndyPad has a front camera only with the pro getting a front and 2MP rear camera. The Pro also has Bluetooth and 16GB of storage. The normal version has 8GB of storage. The first impressions on the AndyPad basic unit aren’t that great. The lack of gesture support is bemoaned and the tablet screen is said to be poor overall. The Pro version screen is brighter and can be seen clearly form all angles and multitouch is included. The base unit is focused on the low price and the more expensive Pro version is the better all around tablet, but the price is a lot more. [via Andorid.modaco] ) |
Andy Rubin tweets new Android stats Posted: 28 Jun 2011 04:05 AM PDT If you are a big fan of Android operating system for your smartphone or tablet, you probably know who Andy Rubin is. Rubin was the geek who developed Android and then sold the OS to Google back in 2005. Rubin was also involved in the company Danger. Rubin has posted up a tweet with some interesting stats on how many Android devices are activated each day and the information is very interesting.
According to Rubin there are over 500,000 Android devices activated each day. Just as impressive is the fact that the number of activations are growing at 4.4% week over week. Looking back to December of 2010 when Rubin tweeted the same information there were 300,000 Android phones being activated each day. That is a huge number of Android devices. Rubin was promoted from vice President of Engineering at Google to Senior Vice President back in early April. It’s nice to get data on how many Android devices are being activated. I wish other smartphone markers were as open about how many devices are being sold and activated. ) |
T-Mobile’s myTouch 4G Slide gets official: HSPA+ and a boosted camera Posted: 28 Jun 2011 12:55 AM PDT T-Mobile USA has given the official nod to the myTouch 4G Slide, the carrier’s latest QWERTY smartphone. Built by HTC, the myTouch 4G Slide packs a 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen and the same 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor as inside the HTC Sensation and HTC EVO 3D, as well as that physical keyboard and an upgraded camera. The 8-megapixel camera – which has autofocus and a dual-LED flash – also gets a new f/2.2 wide aperture lens and a backlit sensor, both intended to improve low-light performance. HTC has also fettled its software, promising zero shutter lag as well as adding in-camera HDR support, SweepShot for easy panoramic photography, and BurstShot for firing off multiple frames in short order, and then allowing you to pick the best later on. A front facing camera gives support for video calls, meanwhile, and the phone runs Android Gingerbread with HTC Sense 3.0. Other specs haven’t been announced, but we’re guessing WiFi b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS and all the usual sensors will be included when the T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide arrives in July 2011. It’ll be priced at $199.99 with a new, two-year agreement, and available in black or khaki. |
Google Celebrates Pride in NYC with Gay Android Shirts Posted: 27 Jun 2011 04:09 PM PDT Prepare yourselves for the cutest most awesome Android t-shirt you’ve ever seen in your life. Two Androids holding hands, one of them waving a rainbow flag. This is the newest uniform of the “Gayglers”, a group of Googlers, aka employees and associates of google that’ve been supporting GLBT rights for quite a few years now. This particular photograph was taken just this past weekend at New York City Pride, Gay Pride that is, at one of the many events across the United States in essentially every big city (including right here in my home city of Minneapolis), rainbows and singing and dancing galore – and in this case, Androids galore as well!
The image you see above was posted by Bearhouse on Reddit in a thread that then erupted into talk of “what am I looking for here” and “I think I see *celebrity*.” We’re in a progressive online world now where it’s much more likely that we think a company NOT supporting gay rights is odd, so much so that people on Reddit could not understand why Bearhouse posted a picture of some Google employees and friends marching in a Pride parade in NYC. If you’ll take a look back to a post in the official Google Blog from 2007, you’ll see that “Our Corporate Equality effort” means rights for Gayglers all across the world, not just USA, and that Google supports gay right and has been doing so, again, for years. Take a look below at an official Google Employees “It Gets Better” video also: In addition, you can take a look at the 9/26/2008 post in the same Google blog to see what Google’s official position was (and is) on California’s Proposition 8, aka government action to officially strike down Gay marriage in CA – yes, they were against it. In July of 2010 Advocate came across the fact that Google would be covering taxes on employer-provided health benefits for Gay couples that their straight couple counterparts were not having to pay because the government recognized their union as a full marriage:
And what about that shirt in the photo up there? Is it available for purchase? Of course it is! You can get that shirt right this moment over in the official Google Store. Note- it appears that the Androids there are yellow, but I’m pretty sure the image file is just blasted a bit. Green it more than likely is. Put your paws up, Androids! |
Olivetti Olipad 110 Tablet appears again, this time on video Posted: 27 Jun 2011 03:32 PM PDT We have seen the Olivetti Olipad before but back then it was just the 100 and it was not running Honeycomb. Then a few weeks ago some beautiful pictures of the much improved and updated Olipad 110 surfaced and you can read about that here. Today we have some hands-on video of the Olivetti Olipad 110 running Android 3.1 Honeycomb.
Since this is Italy’s first tablet manufacturer the video is all in Italian so unless you speak Italian the video is mainly just for your viewing pleasure. It features the same impressive hardware we have been seeing of late for Honeycomb tablets like a Nvidia dual-core Tegra 2 1 Ghz CPU, 10″ display, front and rear cameras as well as 16GB of storage and 1GB of RAM. You can read all the specs here. The video below doesn’t show us much we haven’t already seen before, but another Android 3.1 tablet to tighten the competition and hopefully lower prices is always a good thing right? Check out the video below for some hands-on with the Olipad 110 and near the end they show the hardware for you all to drool over. Pricing is said to be set at 399 euros or around $549 if my calculations are correct and we may see this device as early as July, hopefully they drop that price to better compete with tablets such as the Asus Transformer. Gingerbread RUU Packed for Rooted HTC Droid Incredible 2 Posted: 27 Jun 2011 03:05 PM PDT If there’s one thing an Android user loves, it’s an update. Every update to an app, firmware, hardware, even updating your wallpaper is something like an addiction when you really get into it. Therefor when a news bit like Droid Incredible 2 gets full official Gingerbread build comes along, we flip out. That day is now – though it’s a little less than official, if you know what I mean. What we’ve got going here is a Gingerbread RUU being leaked by MobileUnderground member Football. Justin Case of Android Police and xgunther got together and repacked that RUU and made it root-friendly.
What you’ve got to get and be right now is S-OFF and root by AlphaRevX, plus you’ve gotta have ClockworkMod recovery running so you can flash the pre-rooted ROM of what we’re talkin about here. Once you’ve got that going, all you’ve got to do is wait for the full unlock of the Incredible 2 from AlphaRevX. Meanwhile you’ve got some downloading to do. First you’ll want the PlainJane GB beta 1 for Incredible 2 which was just spoken about, all support for this ROM being sitting around at RootzWiki. You’ll like to know that this update will bring you some excellent features including: Android 2.3 Gingerbread, compass orientation correctly detecting, notification LED settings being correctly applied, Get More HTC Widgets being available, smart dialer now functioning correctly, and calendar app accurately displays birthdays now. If that’s not some mangled tense english for you, I don’t know what is. This entire update is coming to you thanks to the folks at our buddies at Android Police. ) |
Hungry Sharks passes 6 Million downloads on Android, Releases Hungry Sharks 3 Posted: 27 Jun 2011 02:53 PM PDT In case you’ve never played Hungry Sharks 1 or 2 I’d highly recommend you give it a try, just don’t let your kids play it. It’s a exciting and fast paced game where you can control a shark and basically eat everything in your path. It may not sound all that fun but it gets pretty hard as time goes on and you start to get hungry and eventually die if you don’t eat enough. With fish, birds, jellyfish, and humans all in the water there is plenty to eat but it does run out. It is actually really amusing and a great way to pass the time, I’ve played both plenty.
The developers known as Future Games of London have announced that Hungry Sharks has recently passed its 6 millionth download for Android. With the huge success of the game they are proud to announce the latest version — Hungry Sharks part 3. The latest version brings many new features and enhancements as well as some stellar graphics and additional things to eat. They’ve added a lot of humans to the food chain and it looks to be lots of fun. Features: -Full use of Tilt controls + alternate touch controls Also the more you eat the larger you become so navigation gets harder and you may end up starving your poor shark. It is not as easy as it looks I’ll tell you that much. One exciting new addition is the support for Android Honeycomb Tablets. You can now play Hungry Sharks on your Galaxy Tab or Asus Transformer and their gorgeous 10″ displays. Feel free to head over to the Android Market as Hungry Sharks part 3 is available now, or just click here. [via FGOL] ) |
Chinese Search Company Creating its Own Mobile OS based on Android Posted: 27 Jun 2011 02:23 PM PDT We all love Android’s free and open source-ness, and custom ROMs are one of the best results of that. Well apparently the Chinese search company Baidu loves custom ROMs too! So much, that they’re rumored to be baking their own, to market as an alternative to Android back in China.
Baidu is a Chinese search company, who, if you notice the image of their site on a Motorola Droid above, has borrowed a few things from Google before. Now it looks like their trying to borrow our beloved Android. The Android based OS is rumored to be called Qiushi. When Baidu was questioned, their response was Quishi is the name of a mobile ad product in development. Not exactly definitive. All questions of how “legal” copying Android would be under Chinese copyright aside, as figuring that out would be an adventure of its own, this could be bad news for Google as they continue to fight for a piece of the ever gigantic Chinese market. Android is based on Linux, which has plenty of different versions or “distributions.” What do you think of the concept of others taking the source and creating their own “Android distributions?” Maybe in the future we’ll see CyanogenMod, or developer skins grow into their own separate entities should Baidu’s OS take off. As always let us know what your take is in the comments! [via Business Insider] ) |
Asurion Insurance out of Droid X, Sending Droid X2 for Replacements Posted: 27 Jun 2011 02:06 PM PDT Asurion is the handset protection and insurance offered by most smartphone providers like Verizon and T-Mobile, when your phone gets lost or broke they replace it and you only pay a deductible (if you have insurance of course). For high priced smartphones the deductible is around $130 to get your lovely android phone replaced. It looks like they are replacing users of the Droid X with the new and faster Droid X2, that is a nice upgrade if I don’t say so myself.
This is not the first time this has happened, extremely popular phones tend to sometimes run out of stock and apparently that is just what has happened. Asurion is out of the Droid X and users seeking a replacement for lost, stolen, or broken phones are being offered the Motorola Droid X2 as the replacement according to our friends over at Droid-Life. You can check out our review of the Droid X2 here. What makes this special is the Droid X2 features a dual-core 1 Ghz processor and an upgraded qHD 540×960 high-resolution display. So users are getting a pretty substantial upgrade for the replacement from Asurion. I’d never recommend that you drop or lose your phone just for a warranty replacement as that is a bad idea and cheating the system, but if you are in the need for an upgrade on that Droid X now would make for an excellent time to do just that.
