Posted: 29 Jun 2011 08:59 AM PDT The Urban Stargazing project focuses on bringing back the stars in the city sky by recreating existing constellations and adding new ones, narrating old and contemporary myths about London. Twelve groups of stars have been installed at different locations in the city, and can only be observed by the naked eye at night time. Hit the jump for a map showing each constellation with their corresponding coordinates. To go on a stargazing walk, enter the latitude/longitude of any constellation on a web mapping application. Posted: 29 Jun 2011 03:41 AM PDT What are you predictions for the iPhone 5? I heard someplace that a curved display was in the making and attention was being given to the antenna issues. Designer Michal Bonikowski feels that the new version will be safe and predictable, simply because Apple can't afford another failed version. In his conceptual version Michal converts glass enclosure into proven aluminum; steel frame remains as a reference to the previous version and directly to the iPad 2. Also, the key functions is converted from mechanical to sensory. It's just a matter of time, soon we'll know how closer to the real thing is this concept. Designer: Michal Bonikowski ---------- |
Posted: 29 Jun 2011 12:01 AM PDT Living by the beach I’ve seen a handful of people be rescued by lifeguards, & I always wonder why the lifeguard system doesn’t invest in a single water-to-land vehicle rather than… take the pickup to the shore, to launch the jet-ski, to swim, & rescue the person. It seems a lot more practical right? Inspired by the 1940s Volkswagen Type 166, designer Sebastian Toddenroth came up with this amphibious Volkswagen Beach Rescue rover to make lifeguards’ jobs a tad easier and rescues a lot quicker. What better brand to represent this concept than the reliable Volkswagen? This concept gives lifeguards the ability to move seamlessly from water to land, & allows them to perform omnidirectional maneuvers for increased agility and time efficiency. Posted: 29 Jun 2011 12:01 AM PDT Designer Arash Karimi’s Audi bike is a near perfect fit for the future urban consumer. As the usability of cars within inner cities diminishes and green attitudes become the standard, this electric concept provides a serious glimpse into the future of green transportation with global brand cachet. The bike’s robust frame and minimal styling have all the sophistication you’d expect from a premium automaker. Just be careful not to slide too far forward- ouch!! The fixed-gear bike’s battery pack is embedded in the body while the electric engine is housed in the rear wheel frame. Designer: Arash Karimi ---------- |
Posted: 29 Jun 2011 12:01 AM PDT Inspired by the intrigue of optical art, this pair of bespoke Lexham bedside tables plays with both the user’s understanding and vision, creating the illusion that the flat tiered sections are warping. The legs’ use of acute angles creates a forced perspective that further piques the viewer’s interest. Fabricated from Corian, the thermochromic liquid sheets are laser cut to size and shape. The inlay surface is also temperature sensitive, going through the color spectrum from deep red to dark blue as it responds to hot and cold. Designer: Studio801 ---------- |
