Samsung YP-MB2 Poses for Another Photo Posted: 13 Aug 2010 02:22 PM PDT The Personal Media Player from Samsung, better known as the YP-MB2, still exists. It’s not just some cruel joke that Samsung is playing on all of us. And just to make sure that we all know that, it’s lined itself up for some more photos. It’s still looking just as good as ever, especially with that 4-inch Super AMOLED display. We’re beyond excited for the iPod Touch competitor, and we wish we were one of the lucky individuals overseas that reportedly has the device in hand.
As we just mentioned, the YP-MB2, or perhaps we should just start calling it the Galaxy Player (as that’s what the screen says), is positioned to be a direct competitor to Apple’s legendary Personal Media Player. But, as you might have guessed, the Samsung version will be running Android (probably 2.1, but hopefully 2.2 by the time it launches internationally). Furthermore, it will have two cameras (one on the back, one on the front), feature the same 4-inch Super AMOLED display that all the Galaxy S devices have, and it will also boast that 1GHz Hummingbird processor under the hood. There’s still no word on an official release date, but if the rumors are true that people out there in the wild are using one, then the release can’t be too far away. We’re hoping for an announcement in September, so stay tuned. [via Samsung Hub] ) |
Samsung Hard at Work on GPS Fix for Galaxy S Devices Posted: 13 Aug 2010 02:15 PM PDT There’s no question that the Galaxy S devices out there in the wild have a GPS situation going on right now. Plenty of folks keep telling us about it, after all. And while it’s all well and good for us, and the owners, to know that there’s a problem, there’s a certain amount of satisfaction that comes from the manufacturing company announcing that they know it exists, and are hard at work on fixing it. That’s what Samsung have just announced, thankfully.
Thanks to Samsung Mobile support’s Carla Saavedra (web product analyst), we have a tweet that states that Samsung is indeed working on an update/fix for the GPS issues that the Galaxy S devices are experiencing. What’s noteworthy, though, is that the update/fix is supposed to show up as a download in September — which is right in line with that whole Froyo update that some Galaxy S devices are supposed to receive. Coincidence? We hope not. [via @CarlaSaavedra] ) |
HTC Droid Incredible Update to Android 2.2 Rolling Out August 18th, Sources Say Posted: 13 Aug 2010 01:42 PM PDT August 12th may have been a big day for its own reasons, but we’re already looking forward to August 18th. That’s the date that the original Motorola Droid is supposed to get Adobe’s Flash Player 10.1, and it’s now supposedly the date that Droid Incredible owners out there are going to get their own update to Android 2.2, or Froyo.
According to sources speaking to Mashable, it looks like Verizon employees that own the Droid Incredible have already managed to test Froyo on their devices. After those tests, which must have gone well, it looks like the update is now ready for prime time, and Verizon has the date all set. So that means three devices for Verizon will have the most up-to-date Android version: the original Droid, the Motorola Droid 2, and now the Droid Incredible. Anyone out there excited? Motorola Droid X Now Features Clockwork Recovery Posted: 13 Aug 2010 12:11 PM PDT One feature that wasn’t listed with the Droid X, was Clockwork Recovery. Why? Because Motorola doesn’t want you to root your phone and do whatever you want to it. They went as far as to add that pesky eFuse aspect, and ever since, folks have been wondering if the Droid X would ever, ever be able to feature custom ROMs. Well, thanks to ridiculously talented developer Koush, we can safely say that the device is one giant leap closer.
As you can see form the image above, that’s Clockwork Recovery. Obviously on a Droid X. Now, that’s very, very good news for all X owners out there who want to add custom ROMs to their phone, because this means Koush, and other developers, are so close it’s ridiculous. With Clockwork on there, custom ROMs are right around the corner (hopefully). So basically, if you’re feeling a little giddy right now, we completely understand. [via @koush] ) |
