| AlessiTAB tablet brings Android home [Video] Posted: 21 Apr 2010 07:28 AM PDT Design firm Alessi have turned their hand to electronics with the new Android-based AlessiTAB, a touchscreen home media tablet. Shown off at an Italian design fair recently and spotted by InfoServi.it, the tablet packs WiFi and a digital TV tuner, together with internet access and digital photo frame functionality.
Users will also be able to access social networking sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, and the AlessiTAB has an integrated battery good for around 6hrs of use. As for recharging, a base station is supplied onto which the AlessiTAB sits, triangular in cross-section. Alessi expect the tablet – which is made by Promelit and designed by Stefano Giovannoni – to go on sale in Europe in September 2010. Pricing is said to be around €300 ($403), making it less than an iPad. Click here to view the embedded video. [via SlashGear] |
| Xperia X10 With Multi-Touch Support? Posted: 21 Apr 2010 07:03 AM PDT One of the main features some people is multi-touch. This topic in regards to the X10 has been debated over and over. Official word was this device did not have the capability of supporting multi-touch ever. A video has just surfaced that could prove this wrong.
Towards the end of the video, Google Maps is opened and it's zoomed in, pinch style. There has been a rumor that an update will be pushed out at some point that adds MT to the X10. Maybe this is a demo of that update? Who knows, only time will tell? |
| HP Compaq AirLife 100 specs revealed Posted: 21 Apr 2010 06:53 AM PDT This isn't the first time that we have heard news about HP's Compaq AirLife 100. This is an Android powered netbook that we have known about since MWC. It has finally passed through the FCC and now the full specs are now available.
It features a 10-inch screen, 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with Wi-Fi / 3G connectivity, 512MB of RAM, and 16GB of flash storage. The screen is a resistive touch screen but it doesn't have multi-touch capabilities. It's not yet known if this device will have market access but HP has a list of apps that will come preloaded. The AirLife is set to launch soon in Latin America and in parts of Europe, it has been spotted on their US site as well so it could be available here at some point. The official word from HP is expected soon. |
| Beta Test The Skyfire Browser Now Posted: 21 Apr 2010 06:41 AM PDT The browser options for Android just are growing all the time. If you don't like the stock browser or just want a change of pace, hit the market and replace the browser (unlike other unnamed OSX's). Now you can beta test the upcoming Skyfire browser. The XDA has gotten a hold of this app and has shared it with the rest of us.
Skyfire is nothing new, all you Windows mobile and Symbian users has being enjoying this browser for a long time now. Tired of waiting for Flash 10 to finally hit? You don't have to now because this browser supports flash 10, all major Web 2.0 standards, including Ajax, JavaScript. So without prolonging your agony, click this link to download it now. | T-Mobile USA Announces Garminfone Posted: 21 Apr 2010 06:28 AM PDT It's been a long time coming but the long awaited Gamifone has been announced for a T-Mobile release. Garmin was one of the first members of the OHA, promised to produce an Android handset, seemed like it would never come to fruition. This may be the first announcement of great Android devices for T-Mobile.
As expected the Garmifone will be loaded with a bunch of navigation orientated applications. One of the main features will be Garmin Voice Studio; this app allows customers to record custom voice directions from family and friends. This handset features a 3MP camera and 3.5 HVGA touch screen. Included will be a car dock. Unfortunately, this will be an Android 1.6 device, since its being released later in the year, 2.1 may be loaded on to the handset. I can't wait to see how this stacks up to Google Maps. | Android 2.2 Froyo on May 19th? Posted: 21 Apr 2010 05:41 AM PDT
As for the date we can expect it, that’s not finalised but the current guesstimate is in time for, or alongside, May 19th; that’s when Google I/O 2010 kicks off, and it would make sense for the company to push out the new version to coincide with that. There’s also talk of Flash 10.1 for Android being released at the same time. So what can we expect? Well, more available RAM is looking like it’s locked in, as Google switch to the new Froyo Linux kernel, as are multi-colored trackball notifications on the Nexus One. An OTA update is tipped, for the Nexus One at least, unlocking the “many secrets” left in the phone that Google’s Erick Tseng apparently teased about during CES. [via T3] |
| Google Maps Navigation arrives in UK Posted: 21 Apr 2010 03:02 AM PDT Up until now, despite having a fair few Android 1.6 or 2.x devices to choose from, UK owners didn’t have (legitimate) access to Google’s Maps Navigation beta, with its free turn-by-turn directions. That’s all changed today, with an unannounced overnight update delivering the 4.1.1 Beta (that hit US Android phones back on April 6th) to UK handsets.
As with the US version, the app supports verbal directions together with 2D and 3D mapping views; you can choose to view directions as normal, or tap over into “Navigate” mode which looks more like a standalone PND. Various overlays are possible, including ATMs and fuel stations. If you’ve a Nexus One, you’ll also be able to use the voice command functionality to enter a destination without using the onscreen keyboard: just say “Navigate to” and wherever it is you want to go.
