| Sidekick Joining the Android Family? Posted: 14 May 2010 07:50 PM PDT Yes you read the title right, more details on T-Mobile's “Project Emerald” are starting to leak. Although, none of the recent information has been confirmed by T-Mobile, this bit of information comes from a few very reliable sources. Tmonews (which is usually dead on regarding T-Mobile stories) and Phonedog are reporting that the device that's going to head project emerald is the "Sidekick Twist".
Looks like T-Mobile is not done with the Sidekick branding. HTC will be the manufacturer of this device, and it will be another Android 2.1 phone. It will have a 1 GHz processor, a front facing camera and a 4.3 -inch Super AMOLED screen. The goodies don't stop there though, this handset will also have 16GB of onboard storage. That's right folks, not a preinstalled SDcard, built in storage like the Incredible. There is currently no information regarding pricing, this phone is expected to release in the summer. We will stay on top of this story and let you know when more information is leaked out. This is shaping up to be a good for T-Mobile and it's about time they stepped it up. |
| Sprint HTC Hero Android 2.1 ROM Leaked Posted: 14 May 2010 06:44 PM PDT Just a quick little tip here: if you’ve got a rooted HTC Hero for Sprint, and you don’t want to lose it, then you shouldn’t download this leaked ROM version with Release Keys in tow. But, if you’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of the official Android 2.1 for the Sense-powered Hero, then maybe you should stop waiting, head on over to right here, and get your download on.
But, please keep in mind that we’ll put a big fat warning on this one: it isn’t official, and there’s no way to tell whether or not this is the final build that we should expect to see when(ever) Sprint decides to release the final version. What this does show us, though, is that the final one might be close. So, choose your path carefully. [via Android Central] |
| Google Voice Invites For Students Posted: 14 May 2010 02:26 PM PDT Here's another good reason to stay in school. Google is giving away Google Voice Invites for everyone with an .edu address. So all you college students and subsequently teachers can head over to Google Voice Student page now and get started.
Usually when you receive a Google Voice invite you can then turn around and invite others, there is no mention of that on the page. This service allows you to receive visual and transcribed voicemail and you can send and receive text messages. It also gives you a new number that you can use right from your Android handset, now you can have a business and a personal line. Some users have even figured out how to use this service together with other apps to get free calls via their Android handset. This is a really sweet deal, if you're unfamiliar with Google Voice and its features, here's a short video on how it works: |
| Bell Introduces the Motorola DEXT Posted: 14 May 2010 02:03 PM PDT Canadian carrier Bell has just released the Motorola Dext, you may know this device as the Motorola Cliq. Bell had announced in the past that this phone will be due in the first half of this year, they are cutting it real close but it's finally been released.
This phone features a 3.1 inch touch screen, a full QWERTY keyboard, MotoBlur, and Android 1.5. Although this is a very late release, it may be just in time for MotoBlur 2.1 which should hit real soon. It also has Wi-Fi, GPS, a 3.5mm jack, Bluetooth and a 5 MP camera. The camera does take pretty good picture if I do say so myself. This phone can be yours for $79.99 for a new 3 year contract or $399 of contract. There is no option for a 1 or 2 year contract on this handset. The HTC Legend has been rumored to land on Bell soon. So if your into social networking (MotoBlur is known for this) head over to Bell and pick one up. [via intomobile] |
| Motorola Flipout or Ruth due in June? Posted: 14 May 2010 01:37 PM PDT This little square device has shown up again. This time it was leaked to an Italian site with the codename of RUTH. The actual name it will go by when it's released there is the MB511. It is also scheduled for release in June.
The leak also said it will have Wi-Fi, GPS and an SDcard slot (yawn), that's pretty much standard for any Smartphone these days. In fact that pretty much standard for any phone these days. So far the rumored specs include a 3.1 MP camera, a 2.8 inch screen, 512 ROM, 256 RAM and a 700MHZ processor. [via engadget] |
