Motorola Shadow leaks again: HDMI, 8MP & OMAP3630 CPU

Posted: 26 May 2010 01:58 AM PDT

After yesterday’s mildly-dubious Motorola Shadow leak, the handset has shown up in the wild again, this time courtesy of HowardForums.  We described the Shadow as Motorola’s version of the HTC EVO 4G, only without the WiMAX, and that continues to look roughly true; like the EVO 4G the Motorola handset has both microUSB and mini HDMI connections, but it has a 4.1-inch display and a 720MHz OMAP3630 processor.

There’s also 8GB of onboard memory and a microSD card slot, together with an 8-megapixel camera.  According to HowardForums member wnrussell, who took the above photo, the Shadow feels lighter in the hand than the Motorola DROID, likely a side-effect of losing the slide-out keyboard mechanism.  Previous rumors had tipped the Shadow as hitting the market in June or July 2010, on the Verizon network.

Nexus One in Retail Stores?

Posted: 25 May 2010 09:15 PM PDT

That didn't take long at all, the Nexus One is starting to show up at retail stores. The lack of hands on experience and seeing the device in person is a big part of the slow sales of the first "super phone". Google stated that this device will show up in brick and mortar stores but none of thought it would happen this soon.

IWireless, an authorized T-Mobile affiliate, appear to be the first lucky contestant in offering the Nexus One. Since they are partners, I fully expect this handset to make its way into T-Mobile retail shops soon. For the small fee of $299, rebate included, this device can be you're with a new 2 year contract from iWireless.

Currently you can get the Nexus from Google's phone store for $179 with a 2 year contract on T-Mobile. But nothing beats being able to into the store and play with it before you buy it. If you ask me you can't go wrong with purchasing this device. It is fast, sexy and will receive updates from Google way before any other device. If iWireless is in your area, you will soon be able to see the Nexus in person or you can click this link and purchase it now.

HDMI Dock for Sprint HTC EVO 4G

Posted: 25 May 2010 08:54 PM PDT

Here's another goodies from Best Buy, there will be an HDMI dock available for the HTC EVO 4G. This dock is expected to be released by the time the EVO hits the streets. This dock will support HDMI 1.4 and should be backwards compatible. But beware, early reviews of the HDMI performance of the EVO has not been favorable. There have been some reviews in which the 108P output was only recognized as 480P.

Along with HDMI 1.4 support, this dock has a connection for the microusb port as well as the HDMI. This dock is expected to have the ability to charge, output HDMI channels and it can be used to synchronize your EVO to your computer. As mentioned early, some apps do not allow you to output them via HDMI to your television. You will not be able to watch Sprint TV and stream internet videos through this dock or the phone itself.

If you visit Best Buy's page, this dock is listed as "coming soon". So far there is no word on an official release date or how much it will cost. To be competitive, it will likely retail between $40 and $60, I don't see many people spending more than that for this peripheral.

Marvell’s 10-inch Android tablet

Posted: 25 May 2010 04:14 PM PDT

Engadget was lucky enough to spend a little quality time with this ultra sleek Android tablet from Marvell. It has a brushed metal case and a front facing camera. Marvell had this beautiful netbook on display at the Netbook Summit.

Not much is known about this tablet yet. it does have a 10 inch screen, a front facing camera and a Snapdragon-class Armada 610 processor that is capable of 1080p decoding and encoding. Also, this processor meets open GL ES 2.0 so 3D graphics should look pretty good. This tablet will ship with Android 2.1, hopefully 2.2 will make an appearance instead. We keep an eye out for more information about this tablet.

Froyo on the Motorola Droid?

Posted: 25 May 2010 03:14 PM PDT

Pictures emerged a short while ago of Froyo runni98ng on the Motorola droid. We already received confirmation from Motorola that the Droid would indeed receive the update to Android 2.2 but none of thought it would come this soon. Ok, this is by no means an official update running on this Droid, in fact it may not be Froyo at all.

It's possible that 2.2 have been ported to the Droid but in all likelihood this is made from the SDK image. Or, could just be some a complete hoax. Those of us that are familiar with modding could easily replicate the information on the picture above with a few build.pro edits. And for some reason there are no pictures of the updated home screen on this Droid.

Another thing that kills this hoax is the linpack score posted by Droid-Life. I've seen over clocked Droid's output those same exact numbers. those of us with Froyo and a little bit of knowledge about how linpack scores works know that the Droid would output numbers double of what's depicted in that screenshot. Hopefully this is an extremely early Froyo on the Droid and it gets leaked soon but for now this is nothing more than hoax until something solid surfaces.

Boost Mobile’s pre-paid Android-powered Motorola i1

Posted: 25 May 2010 02:11 PM PDT

Correct me if I'm wrong but, Boost Mobile will bring to the market the first pre-paid Android device.   Up until now every Android device we've seen has been tied to a carrier that doesn't allow you to use it as a prepaid cell phone. Hopefully this device will be a success and we will start to see Android handsets available on more pre paid companies.

This device has a 3.1 inch screen, Android 1.5, a 600 MHz Freescale ARM11, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a 1400 mAh battery. There's also 256 MB's of RAM and 512 MB's of ROM with a standard microSD slot. Swype is preinstalled and it has a 3.5mm jack, Flash Lite is rumored to be present as well.

The only downside, if you can call it that, is when you buy a pre paid phone you have to pay full price. This phone will cost you $349 and there is no subsidizing version. The good thing is you only pay for the minutes you need and there's no contract tied to this handset. You can head to Best Buy right now and pick up this handset.

Acer “Liquid Stream” S110 Passes by the FCC

Posted: 25 May 2010 01:51 PM PDT

This device popped up out of nowhere at last week's Google I/O. it is called the “Liquid Stream" by Acer. And it will be the next release in the "Liquid" series from Acer.  Recently, it received approval from the FCC with AT&T capable bands (850 1900 MHZ).

This phone is rumored to be running Android 2.1 and is powered by the famed 1GHZ Snapdragon processor. Hopefully, when it's launched it will come preloaded with android 2.2. It has a 5 megapixel camera capable of 720p video capture which match the “5.0 Megapixel HD 720p” that is found in the FCC filing.

So far the rumored release date is sometime in October, by then "Ginger Bread" will almost be ready for prime time. It's a strong possibility that we will see this device here in the states, Acer has yet to release their first official Android device here. Unfortunately for some this is another touch based handset but it does have a few hard keys at the bottom of the device. We'll report more as it comes in, stay tuned.

Verizon’s Droid Incredible no Longer Available from the Website [Update]

Posted: 25 May 2010 01:20 PM PDT

This one’s a bit odd. We just got word that the Verizon Droid Incredible by HTC is no longer for sale on the wireless carrier’s website. And no, not in the whole “your order is on back-order,” kind of way. But, if you find the Droid Incredible by doing a search, you’ll come to the splash page that shows off the HTC Sense device. However, once you click the “buy now” button, things get very, very odd.

Instead of seeing that it’s on back-order, and you won’t be getting your hands on the device any time soon, it actually shows, in bold letters, “The selection you made is unavailable at this time.” Very, very curious. However, unlike what we’ve heard from other places, the Droid Incredible is definitely still there on Verizon Wireless’ front page, so they’re still showing it off. But, if they’ve pulled the “buy” page, why are they showing it off at all? If you’ve got a theory, please let us know. We’re hoping that this is just a slip up, and it’ll be fixed soon.

[Update] And it’s back! You can see it here, just like nothing ever happened. And, unfortunately, it’s still on back order until June 15th. So, no restocking. But, at least it’s back.

[Thanks, Dave!]
