iPad features added to Elgato EyeTV software Posted: 24 May 2010 09:00 AM PDT
EyeTV 3.4, a free update for EyeTV 3 users, adds one-click exporting for your recorded shows so it'll automatically create 720p HD video files that can be added to iTunes and watched on your iPad. The EyeTV software update also includes support for streaming live TV to the iPad just like the iPhone 3G video streaming we've raved about in the past. The updated EyeTV iPhone/iPad app will be free to current owners or set you back £2.99 if you haven't snapped it up yet. It’s due in the iTunes App Store imminently. Likewise the Eye TV 3.4 update, which is available now, is free for current users or £59.95 to buy online if you're planning to add it to your iPad UK launch spending spree. Also make sure you take a peek at our World Cup streaming guide which gives you the lowdown on how to watch the match wherever you are. Out now | From £free | Elgato Related posts:

Halo: Reach release date confirmed Posted: 24 May 2010 08:30 AM PDT
Bungie has revealed that Halo: Reach will be launched worldwide on September 14 but curiously Japan will have to wait an extra day to get its hands on the game. The developers have revealed that 2.7 million players logged into the Halo: Reach beta logging up 16 million hours and 1.1 billion virtual kills in the 18-day long massacre. Bungie is gunning for similarly impressive figures when it comes to Halo: Reach sales. Halo 3 held the title of biggest selling game of all time in 2007 but has since taken by GTA IV and Modern Warfare 2. Let us know: have you preordered Halo: Reach? And are you tempted by the Halo: Reach special editions? We'd quite the Halo: Reach Legendary Edition if you're feeling generous. Out September 14 | From £38 | Bungie Related posts:

iPad UK launch: Currys and PC World to stock Apple tablet Posted: 24 May 2010 08:00 AM PDT
Up until now it wasn't clear where other than the 27 UK Apple stores would be offering the iPad at launch. DSGi is rumoured to have a 60-day exclusive window to sell the iPad at PC World and Currys but there are also rumours that the new Best Buy store at Thurrock will also carry the "revolutionary" tablet. The memo, seen by The Times, predicts that UK iPad sales will mirror the massive interest in the US where American Apple fans snapped up 1 million in less than a month. It was their eagerness to get hold of an iPad that delayed the iPad UK launch. If you've not submitted an iPad UK preorder yet, what are you planning to do on Friday? Will you be queuing outside the Apple Store, hoping that PC World and Currys do carry it or waiting until the rush is over? If you’re still wondering whether you should grab one, read our iPad UK review. Related posts:

Nokia hooks Ovi into Yahoo! network Posted: 24 May 2010 07:30 AM PDT
Nokia and Yahoo have worked together for five years on projects including allowing Nokia devices to sling pics to Flickr but the new collaboration is huge. Ovi Maps will appear across Yahoo! services branded as "powered by Ovi" and Yahoo! will be baked into Ovi Chat and Ovi Mail which will carry a "powered by Yahoo!" label. The tie-up will also mean you’ll be able to use your Ovi ID to access Yahoo! services. We're big fans of Ovi Maps so it's good news for Yahoo! that it's getting its hands on its seriously impressive navigation skills. Google Maps will be given even more of a run for its money with Ovi Maps' reach spreading further across the globe. We can also definitely see Yahoo! instant messenger features seriously perking up Ovi Chat and some interesting new webmail features finding their way into Ovi Mail. The Nokia/Yahoo! collaboration will kick off in the second half of 2010. Expect to see co-branded services popping up in the UK then. Let us know what features from the two you’d like to see combined. Related posts:

Bose Lifestyle V35 and V25 home theatre: World first look Posted: 24 May 2010 05:28 AM PDT
The Bose Lifestyle V35 and V25 are the home cinema stalwart’s latest attempts to make surround sound easier to add to your living room, following previous attempts with its range of barely-there setups. This time Bose thinks it has really cracked it with what it’s calling its easiest to use system yet. As well as top-notch sound, simplicity is the watchword for Bose here. The Lifestyle V35 and V25 sport Bose Unify Intelligent System to literally walk users through every stage of the setup. At today’s secret preview, Bose told us how more and more customers are put off by fiddly home cinema systems, confusing wires, ports and remotes. According to Bose, its Unify system will make setting it all up as easy as a few button presses with on-screen menus replacing paper instruction manuals. We were shown how to set up a Blu-ray system with just two button presses using the supplied Bose remote. You won’t need another controller after that. Bose also spoke of the V35 and V25 being able to pass the “babysitter” test. “Someone unfamiliar can walk in and know how to use it”, Bose told us. Personalised menus also let you see at a glance which devices are connected to the V35 and V25. Instead of confusing menus a drop down list is displayed listing your Blu-Ray player, PS3, iPod and all your other tech. Both the Lifestyle V35 and V25 feature iPod connectors to play music and video off your ‘Pod and Bose Link tech to let you share music throughout the home. Naturally Bose is all about the sound. Both V-Class systems include Bose’s space saving Jewel Cube or Direct Reflecting speakers. But are they any good? We only got to listen to the Lifestyle V35, but from our brief listen we were impressed with its ability to hit those low deep notes and higher pitched tones to near perfection. We noticed no distortion at all from it. From the magnified sound of someone scribbling on a notepad to bumps, thuds and explosions in the cartoon and movie trailers we watched, we were impressed. It was just as capable with video playback from an iPod on a huge LCD TV to do your iTunes-bought music videos justice. Whether it’s just as capable in our homes is another question. Be sure to check back for a full review once we get our hands all over it. The Bose Lifestyle V35 and V25 are available from today. Expect to pay top whack, mind. The V35 costs £4,499, with the V25 costing £3,499. Also, with slightly less fanfare was the announcement of new T-Series surround sound systems – the T20 and T10 with all the features of the V35 and V25 minus iPod support and a different universal remote. The T20 is out from today costing £2,999 with Bose’s Acoustimass speakers. The T10 is also out today and will cost £1,999 with Bose’s Virtually Invisible speakers. With the new Symbian ^3 OS and a 12MP camera that'll grab 720p HD footage, the Nokia N8 could make a serious stir when it finally arrives and we may have just a few short months to wait. Engadget says a trusted source has told it that the Nokia N8 will launch on August 24. When we grabbed our Nokia N8 photos earlier this month, Nokia design supremo Marko Ahtisaari kept the phone turned off as the Symbian ^3 OS was unfinished. After originally being set to arrive in July, Nokia announced that the Symbian ^3 OS would be delayed until later in the year. If it's now planning on getting the phone out by August, it will have seriously caught up. Nokia hasn't confirmed the rumoured release date but we know that SIM-free pricing for the Symbian ^3 OS stunner will cost around €370 when it finally drops. Will you wait for the Nokia N8? Or do you see yourself plumping for iPhone 4.0? Let us know. Related posts:

HP webOS slate confirmed but netbooks miss out Posted: 24 May 2010 04:00 AM PDT
Monty Wong, vice-president of personal computing systems at HP Taiwan, confirmed to Digitimes that the HP webOS tablet will arrive before October. He says the tablet will have "a wide range of software and application support at launch" which suggests it'll play nice with the current Palm App Catalog. Wong says though HP has promised to bring webOS to a "range of form factors" netbooks won't be part of the plan. Its reasoning is that netbooks have similar functions to traditional computers so need a full fat OS. Tell that to the forthcoming Chrome OS netbooks. HP is set to announce further details of the webOS slate after it completes its purchase of Palm in July. We may even see the newly tweaked HP Slate go head-to-head with the Asus Eee Pad at Computex. Let us know whether you're gagging to see the smarts of the Palm Pre reborn in the HP webOS tablet. Related posts:

Steve Jobs emails: iPhone 4.0 won’t disappoint, Google won’t win Posted: 24 May 2010 03:25 AM PDT
First up, Steve Jobs responded to claims from Gizmodo that Google has leap frogged Apple with the release of Android 2.2 Froyo. We pondered the same question with our opinion piece on Google TV. Unsurprisingly, the Apple boss doesn't see that happening. His three word riposte: "Not a chance." Another correspondent told Steve Jobs: "I hope you have some good WWDC announcements to blow [Google] out of the water." The characteristically economical reply: "You won't be disappointed." With WWDC just two weeks away and iPhone 4.0 leaks still pouring out onto the web, do you think Steve Jobs is right to be confidant? Or has Google convinced you that Android is the future?
