HTC EVO 4G User Manual Available

Posted: 03 Jun 2010 06:37 AM PDT

Just 1 more day until you'll be able to walk into a Sprint, Best Buy or radio Shack and pick up an EVO. If you can wait that long this user's manual may help tide you over until then. Sprint support site for the EVO is now live and you can go there now and view the user manual and the getting started guide.

When you purchase your EVO you will get these same guides so why not get a head start on your reading so you can have all day tomorrow to play with your new devices? Together there are around 200 pages of information about how to operate and troubleshoot the EVO. June 4th is the big day, many locations will open up at 6am, and this is expected to be Sprints biggest seller.

Samsung Galaxy Tablet Leaks

Posted: 03 Jun 2010 06:22 AM PDT

Yesterday we told you That Samsung has an Android MID in the making that is supposed to rival the iPod touch. Well, that product may still be in the pipeline but a photo of an iPad challenger has just emerged. This photo was leaked on Samsungs South African Twitter page.

Samsung is calling this device the Galaxy tablet. And like its iPad counterpart, it's just a bigger version of the Galaxy S. it has the same 3 keys at the bottom, and the same front facing camera. This is a good looking tablet and knowing Samsung, this should make it to the market soon unlike all the tablet prototypes we've seen in the past.

This tablet is said to be running Android 2.1 and have the same version of TouchWiz as the Galaxy S, TouchWiz 3.0. There is no word on if this has been optimized for use on a tablet but I assume that it would be. There is no word on addition specs but like most Android tablets, expect it to have more features than the iPad.

doubleTwist Player for Android debuts

Posted: 03 Jun 2010 03:02 AM PDT

Something most Android users agree on is that the standard media app is less than impressive in comparison to what else is on the market, and that’s where doubleTwist’s new Android app comes in.  Designed to replace the regular player – as well as sync nicely with doubleTwist’s desktop app – the new software supports music and video, together with iTunes playlist imports.

There’s also audio and video podcast support, ratings and playcounts, and doubleTwist will be bringing online radio and the ability to wirelessly sync with the desktop app soon.  There are also widgets promised.

You can download the doubleTwist Android Player app from the Android Market now, where it’s currently a free download (though only for a “limited time”).  While some of the recent comments suggest the app doesn’t support Android 2.2 Froyo, doubleTwist tell us they’re in relation to a previous version.

O2 announce Dell Streak contracts & prices

Posted: 03 Jun 2010 01:49 AM PDT

Carrier O2 UK has announced its pricing for the Dell Streak, which will go on sale tomorrow, Friday 4th June.  The Android MID will be priced from free, depending on tariff, and be available both with regular voice/data plans and, for those not interested in using it as a cellphone, with data-only plans.

Both 16GB and 32GB versions of the Streak will be on offer.  The shortest contract is O2’s 30-day “Simplicity” tariff, though you’ll be paying £349 for the 16GB and £399 for the 32GB Streak for the privilege of such freedom.  Regular agreements are either 18- or 24-months, and you’ll need to pay at least £35 on one of them to get the Streak “free”.  Full details in the gallery below.

Dell Streak $500 unlocked next month

Posted: 02 Jun 2010 08:22 PM PDT

The first of many Android MID's from Dell will be available next month. For a small fee of $500 the Dell Streak can be yours and you will not be tied down to any carrier. By the end of next month you will be able to purchase this device directly from Dell.com with no strings attached.

There has been no word on which 3G bands would be included if you buy it unlocked from Dell. It is expected to land on AT&T so there's sure to at least be one compatible with their network. Hopefully, Dell decides to make a T-Mobile AWS compatible version available on their site as well.

In case you need a refresher on some of the specs of the Streak, it has a 5 inch screen. There also Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a 1GHZ Snapdragon onboard. This device is great for web browsing and other media centered activities. There's also a front facing camera that could potentially be used for video chatting. Next month will surely be another big one in the world of Android.

First EVO 4G Commercial – Video

Posted: 02 Jun 2010 08:05 PM PDT

It's about time Sprint placed this beauty on television. The first EVO 4G commercial has just leaked and its pretty good. The theme of this ad is "first", as we all know, the EVO is the first 4G Android device to hit the US and the first 4G phone period to be offered.

If you haven't seen this commercial yet it should air really soon in your area. And if you can't wait that long, its right here for your viewing pleasure. It's a pretty good commercial, it's almost as good as the Droid commercials (keyword almost). So without further ado, enjoy the "first" EVO television ad

Samsung developing an iPod touch competitor?

Posted: 02 Jun 2010 02:52 PM PDT

The latest rumor has Samsung prepping to go head to head with the iPod touch. This device will be running Android and will be a multi media focused device. There is currently no indication that this device will be another Android phone.

A recent Bluetooth filing from Samsung points to a MID is currently in development. This MID goes by the design name YP-MB2. The YP in this title stands for Yepp which Samsung use in classifying their music players. The MB2 part suggests that this is the successor to the MB1. Other rumors have this device outfitted with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an AMOLED screen, a web browser and unnamed version of Android. We'll stay on top of this rumor and see if any more information is leaked.

Droid Xtreme Pictures Leaked

Posted: 02 Jun 2010 01:04 PM PDT

The Droid Xtreme will like be the successor to the original Droid. There's been rumors around the web that says Verizon plans on releasing two Android based devices next month. Hopefully the two devices will be the Shadow and the Droid Xtreme or Droid 2. These pictures were leaked earlier today by our friends over at Droid-Life.

This phone bears a striking resemblance to the first Droid. It appears to be a lot thinner than its predecessor. Initial rumors is this is the Shadow and not the Droid 2, so far there hasn't been any leaked pictures of the Droid 2 which leads me to believe that this is indeed the second incarnation of the Droid.

Yesterday the Shadow was said that is in not running Android 2.2 instead it has a new version of MotoBlur called NinjaBlur. The tipster confirmed that this device is loaded with android 2.2 that is more evidence that this isn't the shadow, it's the Droid 2. The case has a metal feel to it and the gold camera button from the original droid makes an appearance along side Cliq like volume rockers. It has a 4.1-inch capacitive touch screen, 8GB of internal memory, 700MHz OMAP3630 processor and an HDMI jack. It is possible that this one device is the Shadow, Droid 2 and Xtreme just with different codenames as it reaches different stages in development. What do you guys think?

Android 2.1 Moorestown powered by Intel

Posted: 02 Jun 2010 12:32 PM PDT

Intel had their new Atom processor on display at this year's Computex, Engadget had a few representatives at the expo where they got some hands on time with multiple different Android devices. One of which is this handset powered by Intel first chip designed for Android. The prototype phone used in this demo was manufactured by a company called Aava.

There's nothing groundbreaking to see in the video posted by Engadget other than proof of concept. The handset didn't appear to be faster than the latest "Superphones" that have been released recently. In fact, they said it's not as fast as a Snapdragon. This is Intel's first dance with android and the handset isn't a finally build. Knowing how Intel works, they will get the hang of how Android handles things and should come up with something really well.
