Motorola Droid 2 Gets Photographed with Android 2.2 Posted: 20 Jul 2010 08:59 AM PDT Unlike major phone leaks before the Droid 2, there weren’t that many questions left to be unanswered by the time the leaked images started making their way onto the Internet. However, with the Droid 2, that’s the complete opposite. As it stands right now, more and more questions keep popping up as more images of this future device make the scene. This time, we get a few more answers, but at the same time, a few of the same questions remain.
For example, as you can clearly see in the image, this device –which is the Droid 2 for sure– is clearly running Android 2.2. No fake Photoshop nonsense here. This is the real deal. But, you can imagine that this may be just a test device, where Froyo is currently being worked through before the initial launch. Does that mean it’s going to hit the store shelves with that frozen goodness for its mobile Operating System version? Nope. But, it is a pretty good indicator that it might. Plus if the rumors that the Droid X is getting Android 2.2 at the end of August are true, then that would just make it make more sense. Remember all those questions and contradictory statements about whether or not the Droid 2 would be running vanilla Android, or have those slight refinements that the Droid X showcases? Well, we can safely say that this one’s been answered: it’s going to have the same tweaks that the Droid X has. Even if you can’t see it in this screenshot directly, you can notice that the notification bar is the exact same one you’ll find in the Droid 2’s bigger cousin. Additionally, the hardware keys match that of the Droid X’s, more so than the original Droid’s. So, we will say that it’s launching with the non-MOTOBLUR MOTOBLUR. Anything else we can expect from this device? That 1GHz processor is still under the hood (thankfully), but everything else is the same when compared to the original Droid. Same size, same screen, same camera. However, what else is different, is the keyboard. Apparently, it’s “phenomenal.” Yeah, that good. And no one ever said that about the original Droid’s keyboard. So consider us excited to get our hands on this one. [via Droid-Life] ) |
ASUS Eee Pad EP101TC to get Android instead of Windows Embedded Posted: 20 Jul 2010 03:16 AM PDT ASUS has apparently decided to ditch Windows 7 Embedded on their Eee Pad EP101TC and replace it with Android. The 12.2mm thick touchscreen slate was launched at Computex earlier this year, with a 10-inch display and 675g chassis; according to NetbookNews, ASUS’ original plan to use Microsoft’s cut-down embedded version of Windows 7 has been dumped in favor of Google’s open-source OS. The actual version of the Android OS used is unclear. ASUS are said to be waiting for Android 3.0 Gingerbread to arrive before announcing their next crop of devices at CES 2011 in January next year, and NetbookNews.de claim the company is using 2.2 Froyo for their prototype but will likely ship with 3.0. 3G versions are also tipped. ) |
Droid X Ad “Eagle Eye” Shows Off Blockbuster App Posted: 19 Jul 2010 03:42 PM PDT These advertisements for the Motorola Android devices, at least the ones that matter (not you, DEVOUR), are getting pretty ridiculous. And not in a bad way. We understand that Verizon’s pushing out a lot of money for marketing, and that’s why we’re going to keep seeing these ads that have the same kind of production values as a moderately good Sci-Fi flick on SyFy Channel (maybe that is a bad thing?). Either way, here’s another one for your viewing pleasure.
It’s called “Eagle Eye,” but it’s not showing the movie with the same name. Nope, you’ll be provided with a quick glimpse of one of the Bourne flicks . . . The only troubling thing is, the super-fast means that you get to watch that movie. Considering we’ve tried, at least a few times, to watch any one of the movies we’ve downloaded from Blockbuster as quickly as they showcase in this ad, we can safely say it doesn’t happen. We’d like it to, but it doesn’t. So, hopefully no one out there decides on this handset for that reason alone. In any event, take a gander at the ad below, and let us know what you think in the comments. Do you think these commercials have the ability to bring new customers into the Android fold? Droid 2 Packaging Gets Spied, August 23 the Rumored Launch Posted: 19 Jul 2010 02:03 PM PDT So, the Droid X just launched. But, there’s plenty of folks out there that are eagerly anticipating the official launch of the Droid 2, the true successor to the original Droid that hit Verizon’s airwaves only a few months back. With that being said, those of you out there should be pretty excited to see some remarkably blurry images of a packaging facility handling the handset.
Apparently, along with everything we already know about the handset, it will come bundled with an 8GB microSD card, and it will indeed cost $199 on a new, two-year contract (presumably after a mail-in rebate of some kind). And, if you’re willing to buy it out right, then that will cost you $599. Of course, with just over a month before the device is rumored to see the light of day, those numbers could change. Does anyone out there believe that it would be somewhat of a tough sell for new customers to pick up the Droid 2 for $200, when you can get the Droid X for the same price, and the original Droid is still making its rounds on the network? Or, does that 1GHz processor make that big of a difference? [via Engadget] ) |
Samsung Behold 2 for T-Mobile Android 1.6 Update Pulled Posted: 19 Jul 2010 11:53 AM PDT If you’re the (proud) owner of a Samsung Behold 2, then you know all about the chaos that happened when the manufacturer declared Android 1.6 was as good as it would get for updates. But, it’s better than nothing. Then again, you may look at it another way, and of course we can’t stop you. If you did get the update to Android 1.6, and you noticed that your device was suddenly having some signal issues, you actually aren’t the only one. In fact, it was happening enough that T-Mobile USA felt the need to pull the update completely.
When wireless carriers roll out an OTA update, they do it in waves for one reason, amongst many: to see how the update interacts with users on their devices. It’s a great way to make sure that everything is working well, and without hitches. Unfortunately for this particular update, that’s not how things went. Signal issues apparently marred the update, and that’s forced T-Mobile’s hand. Sure, that’s going to rub a lot of folks the wrong way, but it gets worse: T-Mobile’s not saying when the update will show up again. That’s right: no future date, at the moment. With all of that doom and gloom aside, let’s look at the big picture, though. Things happen, updates don’t go the way we all want, and there’s no reason for T-Mobile to keep a flawed update available for people to download, and further mess up their handsets. That just wouldn’t make sense. With that in mind, did anyone out there with a Behold 2 that did get the update notice any signal discrepancies? [via Tmo News] ) |
