Eat Where You Please

Posted: 06 Jul 2010 02:56 AM PDT

Recent design graduate Khatija Aslam knows the student life pretty well, especially the mealtimes! Living in dorms, the uninviting cafeteria and the lack of time to actually grab a bite…she’s been there, done that; hence this project! The Dine Away is a lunch box concept that allows you to pack in food and carry it to your comfort place to dine in peace. It's got everything planned, right from the flatware to the mats. I know some of you could really do with this compact box.

Two Quarters Of A Bike

Posted: 06 Jul 2010 02:39 AM PDT

TwoQuater is a power-assisted electric bicycle that folds up when necessary. It sources the power from a lithium battery, which housed at the back of the bike in a black case. The power-assist comes into play when riding uphill and during the downhill course it recharges the battery. For a subway ride or up the elevator, the bike folds into half, but if you need to stash it in your car's trunk or stow it away, it can fold up further to become a quarter of its size.

Usually when we try to fold a traditional folding cycle, we have to fold its handle bar and saddle separately. But with the TwoQuarter, we can fold the both these parts at the same time. Besides, the single front fork and rear fork make it much thinner and smaller after folded.

I almost forgot, you can remove the battery from the black housing and plug it up like regular ones, for recharging.

Diploma In Cord Management

Posted: 06 Jul 2010 01:13 AM PDT

Do you have a diploma in appliance management? It's a new course for silly folks who wrap the electric cord around a hot toaster or kettle, burning out the plastic cover and putting themselves in danger. A candidate for this diploma is my mother, coz she's always doing such silly things to her appliance, especially when she is stowing away the iron! Dumb, but true! Since course fees are high, I'm gonna ask appliance makers to adopt the E-Line Cord instead, sensible to wrap around a grooved wire, than a hot appliance.

Briefcase Men and Dream Warriors

Don’t let me fool you into believing I know exactly what this movie is going to be about – you’re going to be blown far enough away without any of my help. Every once in a great while, a film of such industrial design caliber comes around that we’ve just got to get a piece. Such aesthetic gorgeousness and conceptually constructed lovliness is inside this film that we couldn’t bear to resist. This film is called “Inception” and it’s gonna be put out by Warner Brothers.

Fun note to begin with – a few of the crew on Inception are the same as are fround on the Batman film The Dark Knight, including several members of the cast and the director! We’ve got Michael Caine, Cillian Murphy (the Scarecrow,) and of course someone to replace the hero – Leonardo DiCaprio, of course! Inception is directed by none other than Christopher Nolan, so that look, that fantastically, perfectly professional and undeniable look, feel, fullness in the characters and the world you see here, that’s his game. Then it’s got Ellen Page in there too, and a dozen other fabulous actors, half of whom I’d never expected to appear in an action science fiction such as this, but am severely glad to have seen them show up!

Now this movie is about the future, the slightly distant future. In this future there are technologies that allow human beings to traverse, affect, and even create dream landscapes. Weather those landscapes begin or end in the mind, that is one of the questions.

To prepare for this blockbuster, the folks in charge of promoting it have several “Inception” related things going on. One of these is the “Breifcase Hunt” which is a real-world run around looking for and delivering clues kind of game that you can really, really, for real, play with these guys trotting around in the UK. They’ve got white briefcases and the means to get you one of 2 pairs of tickets, travel, and accommodation for the World Premiere of Inception. This World Premiere is of course in London, where all the world’s dreams come true. Right?

Best prize!

Get incepted before everyone else!

Check out more about the Briefcase Hunt at http://www.facebook.com/inceptionmovieuk!

Then come back here and peek at the preview video and some super eggsclusive pics below, tell me what you think, lemme know if you’d like to buy the tickets or the popcorn, because I plan on seeing this movie in the theater, and more than once you can bet.

One Robot Passenger

Posted: 06 Jul 2010 12:10 AM PDT

I don’t know if you know it, but today I got in a car accident. I’m not kidding. For real. In real life, I got in a car accident today. I ran a stop sign like an idiot, not paying attention, like a fool who needed to be separated from his car. Lucky for everyone, noone was hurt. My car may be totalled, but everyone is totally alright. That’s all you’ve got to know about that besides this: you know what would have been helpful? A robot helper. You know what designer Derek Chik Kin Ng has? A car that’s robot compliant, and yes, a robot who fits right there in the seat.

You can sit this robot right down in there, a little robot helper for you to ride with. This project goes by the name “Humanoid Robot.” This robot it built to be an autonomous type of machine, one that adapts and learns, and also one that’s meant to help it’s master, you, the human.

This robot is 120cm in height (similar to that of a 7 year old child), and works not only to assist its human friend in driving, but also in social life. For example, the robot tells you the news you’d like to know as it happens, like which one of your non-robot-owning friends just got in an accident because they forgot what a stop sign was for. But it doesn’t just have the ability to warn you, nay, this robot can drive for you if you’re totally busy with your cell phone. When you go grocery shopping, it can carry your bags. When you move from one house to another, this robot can help you pack.

And the car, it’s powered by fuel-cell technology, an ecological vision with 2+ heads at all times.

Now – take a look at these images. This gallery you’re about to see below is all also made by D.C.K.N., the designer of this project. He’s got some fantastic talent in illustration too, I’m tellin ya.

An Endless Armchair

Posted: 06 Jul 2010 12:02 AM PDT

How long have you been sitting there? Me? About 30 minutes since I sat down here in the seat I’m in. How about if you never want to stop? Here’s something that’ll help you out in that matter. It’s an endless armchair, yeah, it never stops. And it’s never going to stop with a name like “Moebius” – that’s like the term Moebius Strip, which is an object that’s a strip, yeah, the kind that never ends. Kind of sort of like infinity.

This is the kind of chair that has its own slogan. For real! It’s “Double armchair, twice the pleasure.” This bit of furniture is made with the intention of facing two folks toward each-other.

Made outta rattan. Bent and put into place manually.
