Beer Pyramid

Posted: 07 Jul 2010 03:28 AM PDT

Inspired by the brass monkey used on ships to stack cannonballs is this flexible rubber mat called the Fridge Monkey. It's designed with ridges to hold beverage bottles and cans into place, so that you can build a steady pyramid out of them. The clever little design works well with almost any bottled or canned drink. The only problem I foresee is that homes like mine don't allow for bottles to be in the fridge for so long, they get consumed as soon as they are bought! So building bottles pyramids is out of the question.

I’m Rich With Memo Money

Posted: 07 Jul 2010 01:32 AM PDT

Fake Dollar bills are commonplace and illegal, but if you're looking at playing pretend 'I'm a Rich Korean', then Money Memo is for you. Nothing earth-shattering about the concept, except that you get to show-off wads of Korean Won, albeit a note-pad version. Stash some in your pocket or wallet for handy note-takings (pun intended)!

My iPad Has A Camera

Posted: 07 Jul 2010 12:56 AM PDT

Ha, I'm one up on you iPad users and I don't even own an iPad for that matter! But if I were to buy one I'd team mine up with the iPad Cam-Case , because it makes up for the loss of a camera on the pad! What makes the concept super-awesome is that the camera can be rotated to capture your face when video-chatting. The camera is located in the corner which works well for landscape or portrait viewing and the rubber-plastic case provides a better grip when handling the device.

The bottom half slides out so that you can slip-in the iPad, plus a built in port is located on the bottom of the case for docking and charging purposes.

All I need now is an iPad, oh and this case!

Fantasically Passengered

Posted: 07 Jul 2010 12:10 AM PDT

Here’s a passenger vehicle. Usually I write about boats or really wild or fantastic sports vehicles. I’m not just assigned those projects, it just happens to be that a lot of them come my way when it’s time to publish. When this one came under my nose, I got excited. I got excited that this was a vehicle designed for a specific purpose, then I got doubly excited that the renderings were so fantastic. Then I kept getting excited.

This project is called “Peregrinate” and it’s by designer Gabriel Tam. Peregrinate is a chauffeur driven auto made for a designer boutique hotel by the name of the Fontana Park Hotel. The Fontana is in the city of Lisbon, the capital and probably most gorgeous city in Portugal, a place perfect to get driven around the block in a car in. The hotel has a full-on black and white theme, a hardcore lovely look reflected in the car. As for the workings of the car well, there’s a whole lotta stuff rollin on:

The car has a Superhydrophobicity Lexan polycarbonate body with a gradient transitional tint DLO – I’ll buy you a cup of coffee someday if you know what that means without looking it up. The entire car inside and outside is blade inspired – not the movie, the idea of a blade, sharp and sassy. Rear LED brake lamps, Polyurethane gel bumper, extended wheelbase creating an extra-long rear cabin, gliding pantograph door system, draw-style luggage compartment, front luggage compartment, furniture styled (comfort, of course) flowing seating systems. Customizable Technogel elastomer seating system, transparent OLED display system for driver and passengers, clean stylish working environment for driver, alternatively inclusive or exclusive cabin environment for passengers.

Make it what you want, all fantastic for your own hotel complex.

This Car is Lit Up

Posted: 07 Jul 2010 12:05 AM PDT

This car goes by the name “The Car of Light,” which, as I’m sure you’re about to see, means more than just a pretty shininess. This vehicle’s creation process began with a dissertation experienced by the designer on the effects of light on human’s senses and how it affects the shape of objects, especially vehicles. Heavy subject matter! And how elegant a car it doth create in the end.

In the process of creating this car, designer Jong Won Lee discussed with himself and others how interesting it is that humans, as a species, seem to adapt to industry development in how the light directs the eye. There is a visual wealth in light, he finds, and in this new age of low-power-usage with high-brightness, why not indulge? Light em up!

Now as far as this actual car design goes, down to brass tacks let’s start talking right now I’m saying, the lights are intuitive. There’s a solar panel / sun roof on top of the car that allows for natural light during the day and artificial light at night. The car is electric, of course, and the entire design is informed by the sun. How? Well! The interior and exterior of the vehicle are inspired by the rapping style of ancient Egypt’s mummy wrapping. This wrapping of the dead comes originally from the Sun God Ra, whom of course took quite a bit of his/her design sensibilities from the daylight hitting the world. Then there’s the wave feel of the vehicle, taken from the kinetic wave line of a river surface. Kind of a smooth sailor through the powerfully lit streets.

Pretty, yes?

Gold Bars and Jesus

Posted: 07 Jul 2010 12:03 AM PDT

Perhaps you’ve heard of the old money-for-sins trade called Indulgences. That was one of the things that existed in the Catholic church for a while, and it was one of the things Martin Luther wrote about and nailed to the holy door of the clergy. It’s such an important crime, trading people’s faith for people’s hard work, that it’s gotta be re-spoken again and again. And again here it is! This project is designed by Luis Luna and it’s called “God Faith Money.” Gold, gunmetal, rubber.

This project is more art than it is industrial design, and the functional aspect comes in the form of its significance. The medium is the message, which is an idea written about by Marshall McLuhan and here it’s regarding crosses with letters on them that tell their story and that’s it.

There’s the gold bar, that’s Pro – very faithful. Then there’s Amateur – faithful enough, made of silver. Next is Rookie – not so faithful, made of my favorite material, gunmetal. Finally there’s the Poser – f*ck faith, made of the extra-meaningful rubber.

Fabulous. I’d find a way to hang them all along the wall.
