Prism + Magnets = Pens

Posted: 23 Jul 2010 06:15 AM PDT

Denis Klimovich has designed this delightful stationery set for all you lovely people! A stack of pens that have a magnetic appeal to cling as a cluster, shining like a bright star! Fountain pen, pencil, stylus and ballpoint, bundled together for your writing needs. Although the form kinda reminds me of the triangular Faber Castel pencils, the uniqueness lies in the entire cluster being held together with the magnet. No apparent reason for that, it's just that sometimes we need to add a dash of the unconventional to make something stand out.

The Strangest Skateboard Table

Posted: 23 Jul 2010 12:20 AM PDT

Of all the skateboard deck and skateboard sport related furniture I’ve seen in all my years of seeing such things in my line of work, I have never, ever, seen something so wild as this. This is the strangest, wildest, most wacky piece of skateboard furniture I have ever seen. It tops both the categories of skateboard related AND skateboard constructed (meaning there’s skateboard parts included) furniture. Tops. Wild.

This amalgamation is called PigZig 2.0 and it’s meant to be a hallway table. The “over vertical” element (the two big swoops piece) is made of hand fabricated stainless steel. Maple skateboard decks on top, 369 Independent trucks holding 75mm BigZig lime green wheels on the bottom.

Whether you plan on placing some glasses of caffeine-laced soda pop on top or dropping this into a halfpipe with you on top of it, please, PLEASE use nothing but caution. So, so much of it.

All Your Furniture are Slot

Posted: 23 Jul 2010 12:15 AM PDT

Designer Niclas Waldorf Slot would like to give you an idea of what’s going on in his head and his studio. His line of work centers around a collection called “Slot Futniture.” The example we use here is the “3 in 1″ table, a table which revolves around, as you can imagine, three ideas. Those ideas in a nutshell are timelessness, multi-functionality, and flat-packaging. It’s completely slot-tastic.

The table is made to be timeless and simple. The table is meant to be used as a dining OR office OR conference room table, simply by changing around the pieces (SLOT!) Then finally the table is made to be flat-packed, keeping costs down all around, especially in the amount of packaging it requires (small), also saving the environment which is in dire need of saving.

The “3 in 1″ table you see see in this post as well as most/all of the rest of the Slot collection is produced with bamboo plywood because of its eco-friendly nature and, of course, its natural beauty. There’s no scruvs, fitting, or glue involved here, only SLOTs! The table changes from one use to the next by a simple moving of the legs. On the table there are 2 dowels, each of them attachable to the tabletop holes providing the opportunity for you to have whatever table you desire.

Love change!

The Truth Inside Design Objects

Posted: 23 Jul 2010 12:03 AM PDT

I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for objects that transform from one thing into a completely different thing. Transformers, if you will. Designer Rohan Chhabra has a few objects that do that, and not only that, they’ve got some philosophy behind them too. This set of objects goes by the name “Embodying Ethics.” You’ll find yourself getting emotional witnessing the change between a pair a pants a cow leg. For real.

Provocation!

Cow Leg Trouser: A pair of pants that first fits the human form, then transforms to cover one leg of a cow. Made to remind one of the origin of the materials used to construct.

Hunter Jacket: A coat that’s first used to hunt down animals, then transforms into a Ram’s head wall mount. Narration inside.

Sheep Organ Bag: This purse is both made of the skin of a sheep as well as its insides… inside. The skin of the sheep forms the outside of the purse, then compartments inside are made of sheep organs.

Tree Shadow Chair: Seat made of blond wood with upholstery that transforms into a shadow of a tree. Reflections of the source.
