Motorola Droid 2 Spotted in the Wild, Looks the Same

Posted: 03 Aug 2010 11:11 AM PDT

The Motorola Droid 2 has been leaked all over the place. And, not just the device itself anymore. We’ve got its full user manual, and even some training materials, too. But you know what we don’t have? An official announcement. Anyway, before we digress into something completely irrelevant, we’ll just focus on the whole “Droid 2 spotted in the wild” thing.

The Droid 2, yes, the sequel to the original Droid, has been spotted in the wild. Being held by some unknown individual, somewhere out there, and being shown off against the original model. It still looks the same, and there’s nothing all that surprising here. It’s still rocking that updated keyboard, missing that gold D-pad, and looks far less industrial than the first model did.

But, all that aside, we’re sure there’s still plenty of you out there that want to get your hands on this guy. With its 3.7-inch touchscreen display, full QWERTY keyboard, Android 2.2 goodness, and a 1GHz processor under the hood, we completely understand. Unfortunately, you’ll just have to wait a bit longer before we get any official word.

AT&T Code Scanner App now available for Android

Posted: 03 Aug 2010 05:00 AM PDT

If you are on the AT&T network and have a hankering to be able to scan certain types of barcodes with your Android device a new app is available for you to download. The app is on the Android Market right now and can be had for Blackberry devices if you have more than one smartphone.

The app is called the AT&T Code Scanner and allows the user to snap a pic of a 2D or 1D barcode online, in a magazine, or other places and get more information the product or service tied to the barcode. Another service is available as well that goes along with the scanning app called AT&T Create-a-Code.

This software lets the AT&T user create their own barcodes that can be scanned and link those barcodes to all sorts of information. You can make a barcode that can be tied to things like a website or your Facebook page for instance.

HTC Sync 3.0 adds auto Media Sync for Wildfire; other phones soon

Posted: 03 Aug 2010 03:00 AM PDT

HTC has updated its desktop synchronization app, HTC Sync, to v3.0, adding in Media Sync functionality.  The new client apparently works with most popular media players (PC only), pulling in music, playlists and pictures automatically.

Currently the new version of Sync 3.0 will only work with the HTC Wildfire, but the company promises it “will be updated to fully support other HTC phones very soon.”  You can download it here.

HTC Sync 3.0 – New Feature Highlight: Media Sync.

HTC is delighted to present our newest version of HTC Sync.  Now packed with new features, this version features a media sync that is compatible with popular media players available on your PC.  You can bring your favorite tunes, playlists, pictures and more to your phone with the click of a button. To enable this function, please install the newest HTC Sync for your phone.  You can download this program from the downloads section of the HTC website.  We recommend that you temporarily disable your virus scanner and firewall programs while installing.  Then using the provided USB Cable, simply plug your phone into your computer.  On your phone you may have to select the option for HTC Sync. Once connected, HTC Sync should start automatically.  If you have disabled this or it does not pop up, simply go to the start menu and start it manually. Once the application has opened, you will see a picture of your device on the left, and on the right of that image, a list of options for you to sync to your phone.  Select Music. Once you have highlighted Music, you can choose to sync a specific folder of music you already have organized, or  you can select to sync playlists from popular media players. Currently HTC Sync has only been released for HTC Wildfire, however HTC Sync will be updated to fully support other HTC phones very soon. Note: This version of HTC Sync is only compatible with Android 2.1 and later.

HTC EVO 4G OTA Update to Android 2.2 Happening Now, Really

Posted: 02 Aug 2010 06:09 PM PDT

Apparently, when Sprint and HTC call a mulligan, they really mean it. And we’ll go ahead and say that, in this case, the second time’s a charm. As the title suggests, it sounds like a few (or, a lot) of lucky EVO owners out there are getting their own share of the Froyo love. All OTA style and what not.

And, as we’re sure that you’re more than aware, that means it’a day early. We already knew that Sprint was going to go the early route in some instances, but apparently they just decided that, after the earlier incident, to just go ahead and start shipping it out to everyone. And, as standard OTA updates go, this one’s rolling out gradually, so if you don’t get the update right now (or today) don’t freak out. And, also, if you’re rooted and you want to keep root, you probably don’t want to update, either.

Samsung Galaxy S Comes in White Too

Posted: 02 Aug 2010 03:23 PM PDT

Through all the variations of the Samsung Galaxy S out there, there haven’t been any that have moved away from the plain black/chrome color scheme. While that’s not necessarily boring or anything, we can safely say that there’s plenty of options out there, without much coming in the way of colors. And, we love our options. That’s why we’re so excited to hear that the Samsung Galaxy S comes in white, too.

Though, there’s obviously a catch to the whole thing. The Phone House, over there in Spain, is apparently getting their hands on the white version, and there’s no word that they plan on selling it anywhere other than Spain. But, that’s not saying it won’t happen. There will probably be wireless carriers in Europe that pick up the new version, but the chances of it showing up here in the States is pretty small. Especially considering the other models have already launched. Though, Verizon, that does give you some wiggle room here.

Motorola MILESTONE for O2 Germany Upgrading to Android 2.2 in September

Posted: 02 Aug 2010 01:03 PM PDT

Apparently, the MILESTONE missed the initial Android 2.2 bus. But, hey, at least it’s getting it at all, right? We had actually heard rumors (which spurred from Motorola themselves, mind you) that the MILESTONE might not be getting upgraded to Android 2.2 at all. But, that’s not the case for the MILESTONE that’s branded with O2 Germany’s decal.

According to the wireless carrier’s official Twitter account, the Motorola manufactured device, and the brother to the original Droid here in the States, is getting upgraded to the next version of Android, codenamed Froyo, in September. Good news for MILESTONE owners on O2 Germany, but it doesn’t help the rest of Europe’s owers. While it’s a good sign that the other carriers will get their own updates, it doesn’t necessarily guarantee it. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.

HTC ADR6325VW Shows Up in Verizon Inventory

Posted: 02 Aug 2010 12:56 PM PDT

It’s been a little while since we last saw a device sneak into a wireless carrier’s inventory, which made us scratch our head in utter confusion. This time around, it’s an HTC manufactured device, and we can honestly say that we have no idea what device this may allude to. Truth be told, we don’t even know if this is an Android-based device. At this point, it could be anything.

But, a little bit of a shining hope, is that this isn’t the first time this model number has appeared in a Verizon-related internal area. The ADR6325VW is compatible with the same charging cable that the HTC Droid Eris and Droid Incredible use (which means, microUSB). While that may not be enough to seal the deal that this is an Android device, it does give us some hope. But, the big question still needs to be answered: what is it? Let’s go, Mr. Blurrycam. We need some images!
