| Posted: 31 Aug 2010 11:00 AM PDT Tablets, Tablets, and more Android tablets. For all those that think Android tablets will not succeed, the companies are having a completely different train of thought. This time it is LG giving us some limited information on an upcoming tablet called the Optimus Pad. Yes, the name Optimus did make us think of Transformers also, which is kind of cool.
LG is being a little bit hush-hush on the specifications of the tablet, but as you can see in the pic, it says that it will has superior performance and be thinner and lighter than all the other competition (which at this point is looking there will be plenty of competition). So keep your eyes and ears peeled, IFA is getting ready to get cranked up and who knows what all we will see. [via SlashGear] ) |
| ViewSonic Viewpad 7 Officially Announced Posted: 31 Aug 2010 10:31 AM PDT Yes, it is another Android tablet announced. This time it is ViewSonic, with another in the 7 inch category. The tablet has phone functionality with it’s built in GSM/3G modem, but we are pretty sure that we do not want to hold a 7 inch slate up to our head. Surely, this is in direct competition with the Galaxy Tab and the iPad, not the phone market.
Some of the other features will include, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS, USB, LED screen, front VGA camera, 3 megapixel rear camera, G-Sensor, and storage will be taken care of by a microSD slot supporting up to 32GB. The good news here is that the Viewpad will have access to the Marketplace, and an eReader app from Viewsonic. If you would like to read the Press Release, click on over to the source link. This tablet is supposed to be at IFA-2010 and we will be there to hopefully get some hands-on info for you. [via SlashGear] ) |
| Posted: 31 Aug 2010 09:27 AM PDT Here is a bit of news that will brighten up some T-Mobile users. Some official pics of the G2. What has us puzzled is that the pics are showing Vanilla Android running on the phone but the site is mentioning HTC Sense. We sure need another Vanilla device, with the way that every Android device is being skinned these days.
The device will feature a 3.7 inch Active Matrix OLED display, 1 GHz Snapdragon Processor, landscape slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 5MP camera with autofocus, 3G HSPA+, WiFi + Hotspot capabilities, aGPS, and Bluetooth 2.1 + Enhanced Data Rate. This is looking like a serious contender to replace some Nexus One devices and we will know more in time. [via CellPhoneSignal] ) |
| Droid Incredible 2.2 Update Still Rolling Out: What About the Droid X? Posted: 31 Aug 2010 09:01 AM PDT There have been rumors that the Droid Incredible 2.2 update had been stalled over the weekend. It appears that information was incorrect and, the update is still rolling out to several individuals. Verizon is hoping to have all the OTA updates rolled out by 9/3 so sit tight. If you are tired of waiting you can manually install the update with the update.zip direct from Google available HERE. Follow these simple instructions below to get it installed and remember this is for STOCK non-rooted users only.
Instructions: If you have any issues can head over to XDA-Developers and see if you can get your problem resolved. Speaking of Droid Froyo updates, What about the Droid X 2.2 update? Well supposedly the official version is going through the last testing phases, and Motorola mentioned early September, so hopefully it will not be long at all until the X is eating some of that Froyo goodness also. We will keep you posted. [via Droid-Life] ) |
| Sprint Epic 4G Available Now On Sprint Posted: 31 Aug 2010 08:26 AM PDT We told you about the deal on the Epic 4G yesterday, that you can get on Amazon. Today it is officially available through Sprint now. Drive on over to Sprint and see if they have one to check out. Don’t forget you can get the EVO from Sprint also. Isn’t it great we have so many Android options?
So now you have to sit and ponder about whether you want to head over to your local Sprint store and get it, order it online with Sprint, or go over to Amazon and get a deal on it. Of course we cannot make that decision for you, all we can do is show you the door, you have to walk through it. ) |
| i-Station Z3D Tablet Is 3D Enabled Posted: 31 Aug 2010 07:54 AM PDT Who can say that a 7 inch tablet, running Android wouldn’t be cool with 3D? That is correct, get out your polarized glasses on and let the screen come to life. Having to wear glasses is a big downfall, after hearing that Nintendo, and Sharp have been working on 3D devices that will work without glasses. The 3D tablet will be running Android 2.1 (upgrading to 2.2 and possibly 3.0) and will have full 1080p HD support with a resolution of 800×480.
Some of the other specs include, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, DMB TV Tuner, FM Radio, high capacity 5000mAh battery, 256MB of DDR2 memory, G-Sensors, and 32 or 64GB storage options. The Z3D will be available in November and will cost 600,000 won, ($500). i-Station also has a couple other tablets, called the Buddy and the Dude, that are lower scale tablets worth checking out. Will the Z3D be successful for the simple fact that it is 3D? We do not think so, especially having to wear the glasses. This could possibly be the first of many to be announced in the future. | Galaxy Tab Is Headed To Verizon’s Network Posted: 30 Aug 2010 06:43 PM PDT There are finally some leaked internal screen shots showing that the Galaxy Tab will no doubt be coming to the big red, Verizon Wireless. We had a sneaking suspicion that it would be available through Verizon but didn’t want to count our chickens before they hatched.
Does this mean this is the only carrier that the Samsung made tablet will be available on? We are not sure about that one, but we sure are curious about what the data rates will be, and if there will be subsidized pricing with a contract agreement option. We have said it once and will say it again, we are ready to get our hands on this beautiful 7 inch slate. [via BGR] ) |
| Posted: 30 Aug 2010 04:02 PM PDT Don’t all you Charm users go at once and crash the servers, but the Universal Androot root method, has been said to be able to root your Motorola Charm perfectly, along with a lot of other Android handsets. You can navigate over to here, and get your root on, but before you do that we would suggest going on over to XDA-Developers to do a little bit of reading first.
This is not supposed to be an unlock so you should be safe to go back to stock if desired. If you are successful and get root access pretty easily on your Charm, feel free to stop over in the forums and tell us how everything went. Maybe you could even give someone a tip or two. ) |
| Sony Ericsson Confirms On Twitter that 2.1 Will Come Sometime In September Posted: 30 Aug 2010 03:33 PM PDT Sony Ericsson has replied on Twitter saying that the update from the stale 1.6 to 2.1, will happen sometime in September like they had promised for Q3 2010. This has to be good news for Xperia owners, after hearing all the recent news of devices that are getting the 2.2 Froyo update lately.
So let’s look at the bright side, it is September starting Wednesday, so the wait can’t be too much longer. We can’t help but think that 2.2 will not be far behind the 2.1 update also. In the mean time, if you have been thinking of purchasing the Xperia X10 and cannot make your mind up, keep a look out for some video and full review here on Android Community very soon. | Sprint Epic 4G Available On Amazon for $199 Posted: 30 Aug 2010 02:29 PM PDT Are you thinking about pulling the plug on purchasing the Epic 4G from Sprint? If so you might want to check out Amazon first. With a new 2-year contract sign up, you can get the phone for $199.99 and that is without having to send off and wait for any rebates.
If you purchase it directly from Sprint the phone cost $349.99, then you have a 100 dollar mail-in-rebate. That will have you spending $249.99 once it is all over with. So we suggest if you want to save the 50 dollars, and not have to wait for a mail-in-rebate, head on over to Amazon and click on the add to cart button to see your discount. ) |
| Droid X Real HDMI App and Birdman ROM Posted: 30 Aug 2010 01:51 PM PDT Have a Droid X and want to port your screen over to your 50 inch HDTV with an HDMI cord? Well there is an app called Real HDMI that will allow you to do so. The quality appears to be really good for watching video on your TV. The application is in the Marketplace for is $1.99, and has some limitations, but it is a new app we so will allow room for improvements. If you want to download it, navigate on over with your Android phone and tap on this download link here.
In other Droid X news, Motorola can not be happy with all the Droid X hacking that is going on, but they should have been prepared for that when they started making Android handsets. If you are interested in finding out how to get the recently released Birdman ROM running on your Droid X, head on over to DroidLife and get to hacking away. ) |
| Motorola XT300 Pics And Videos Resurface Posted: 30 Aug 2010 12:58 PM PDT Could this possibly be a low end Droid from Verizon? If so it will be different from any of Verizon’s other red eye robots. This portrait slider from Motorola appears to be on the low-end of the Android devices and it does favor the Palm Pre’ quite a bit.
It is showing the phone is running a version of Moto Blur on top of Android. Another thing that has us puzzled is the fact that the phone is showing that there is not a SIM card installed in the phone. So either this is a really early version of this phone that could be an LTE handset, or there is some serious tomfoolery going on here. We tend to agree on the latter but only time will tell. Check out the source link below for a couple of videos. [via Mobiflip.de] ) |
| Bing App For Android Lands On Verizon Posted: 30 Aug 2010 12:15 PM PDT Bing has announced, they have made their mobile app available today from the Verizon tab, in the Marketplace on your Verizon Android phone. The app has the standard Bing image of the day, with built in trivia, and the ability to see the images from up to 7 days earlier. You can also search for images, movies, local info, and even news.
The most intriguing thing about the application is that it incorporates voice control within the app, much like the Google search does. It will allow you to voice search for instant answers on things like movies, stock quotes, flight status and local listings. Not only will it do that but, it will locate you on your GPS and give you information on places around you. Directions are available also, although there is not any turn-by-turn navigation, it will allow you to swipe through each direction as you get through with it. So if you have a Verizon Android phone, tap on over to the Market, download the Bing for mobile app, and tell us if it gives Google’s apps a run for their money. [via Bing Community] ) |
| Motorola Milestone XT720 Possibly Headed To Wind Mobile Posted: 30 Aug 2010 11:36 AM PDT The Canadian carrier Wind Mobile, has been rumored to be getting the Motorola Milestone XT720. The Milestone would be Wind’s most high-end device, and would only be the second Android handset available from the carrier. On top of that, they would be the first Canadian carrier to have the phone available.
The Milestone XT720 specs include a 3.7 inch 480 x 854 touchscreen, Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3G supporting up to 10.2 Mbps. The Phone will release with Android 2.1 but as expected it is very possible that it will get upgraded to 2.2 down the road. So if you are interested in getting this phone, keep heading over to the Wind Mobile site every now and then to check for info. Or you can do what we suggest, read Android Community everyday and we will let you know as soon as it is available. [via intomobile] ) |
