| Hacked Samsung i5700 Galaxy Spica brings multi-touch support Posted: 08 Sep 2010 10:51 AM PDT With Samsung's spotty updates for it's line of phones many people are resulting to homebrew to bring much requested features to their own handsets. One of the biggest want's among the community is of course, multitouch.
Multitouch is usually something people would refer to as being a hardware feature, or lack there of. However with some homebrew drivers that just hit the internet via forum user Gabriel-LG on Samdroid.net it has not been ported to the i5700. Click here to view the embedded video. The i5700 is officially only able to support one finger input at a time. This is clearly yet another example of how "support" can not only mean by hardware limitations, but the manufacturer's willingness to work on and maximize it's potential in the software department. | HTC’s G2 Will Have Quick Keys for Accessing Google Shortcuts Posted: 08 Sep 2010 10:45 AM PDT HTC's upcoming QWERTY Android slider has a few external additions we've not seen before: Quick Keys. These are reportedly for Google shortcuts, in which each user can customize themselves.
In these recently leaked close-up photos of the G2's keypad you can see the new shortcut buttons which will come in handy, especially with the ability to assign them as you please. The "Quick Keys are described as "allowing you to assign shortcuts to three keys". Not only are they "quick and easy to use" but they will save time if linked to applications that are usually placed deep within a phones folders. This phone is currently expected to be announced on the 15th of September with a presumed launch date of the 29th. [Via Android and Me] ) |
| Motorola Milestone XT720 Heading to Wind Mobile Posted: 07 Sep 2010 02:36 PM PDT As Android continues to make its way to every carrier on every continent, sometimes it’s not the biggest named, or highest-profile device that makes its debut for a particular carrier. In the case of Wind Mobile, word that the Milestone XT720 from Motorola would be launching on the network has come and gone for a little while now, but thanks to a sneaked image of internal training, where the XT720 is obviously showcased, we can safely say the phone is coming.
Wind Mobile’s first Android outing, the Huawei U8100, wasn’t the huge Android device that everyone wanted (or expected), so to see the XT720 making its presence known is very good. Word has it that the Milestone-named variant will be launching some time by the end of September, but there’s no kind of confirmation on that quite yet. Pricing is missing, too, but that’s no surprise at all. But, hey, if you’re on Wind Mobile right now, at least you know it’s coming, so your Android offering is about to get a lot more worthwhile. | Android Customization Shown Off on Video Posted: 07 Sep 2010 02:28 PM PDT When Android launched, people all over the place commented on how ugly the general User Interface was. And, truth be told, as more and more companies released their own UI customizations, it seemed to make matters even worse for the vanilla experience. Even today, many people believe that the general look and feel of Android is ugly. But, let’s also look at the fact that customization exists. Don’t like the way your weather widget looks? There’s an option for that. And the list goes on and on — just like this video shows.
The video was created by one “Roy is on Android,” and it’s created solely to show you the way that Android can be customized. And this isn’t just within the phone, either. He shows you, right from the start, that using an application can radically alter the experience you have on your phone, right on the lock screen. So, go ahead and take a peek at the video below, and as Roy says, maybe it will inspire you to add some customizations to your own Android device. Click here to view the embedded video.
