| HKC 7” Reepad Viewpad with 3G and Multitouch coming to Europe Posted: 21 Sep 2010 11:13 AM PDT iHKC smartphone manufactures have unveiled a new Android 2.1 based tablet PC. The tablet ships with a Qualcomm MSM7227 clocked at 600 MHz, 512MB RAM, a 7-inch multitouch display with a resolution of 800×480. Other hardware features include Bluetooth, 5-megapixel camera, GPS, WiFi, and an SD card slot supporting up to 32GB storage. ![]()
The design of the device is very similar to the Apple iPhone 4. Sleek aluminum with the contrast of black and glass front and back. It's actually manufactured by the same company as Apple uses; Foxconn. The materials may not be the same (no engineered glass, or custom stainless steel) as the iPhone 4 but it sure does look similar. The iHKC Viewpad will be sold in England and Europe for €433/£350 (~$540). [Via ChiniTech] ) |
| Orange San Francisco budget Android phone unveiled [Video] Posted: 21 Sep 2010 04:50 AM PDT Orange UK has outed its latest Android smartphone, the somewhat bizarrely named San Francisco, and they’re targeting the budget-minded masses this time. The Orange San Francisco will cost £99 on the carrier’s “Dolphin” pay-as-you-go plan, which gets you a 3.2-megapixel camera, capacitive touchscreen and Android 2.1 Eclair.
There’s also WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and GPS, along with 3G+ and an FM radio, while storage is a scant 150MB of internal memory and then whatever you slap into the microSD card slot (a 2GB card is included in the box, but the slot will support up to 32GB). The whole thing measures in at 116 x 56.5 x 11.8 and weighs 130g, and Orange reckon you’ll see up to 4hrs talktime or nine days standby. Unlikely to set the world alight, but the Orange San Francisco certainly adds to the options for entry-level Android devices. Update: Orange tells us the San Francisco uses a 3.5-inch 800 x 480 OLED display, which makes it a whole lot more interesting at £99. ) |
| Adobe patches Android vulnerability in Flash 10.1 Posted: 20 Sep 2010 06:23 PM PDT Adobe has released an updated version of it's flash player today, fixing the critical zero day flaw discovered last week. This flaw in the system could have resulted in attackers gaining remote access to your device and execute further malicious software. ![]()
The update (Version 10.1.95.1) address and fixes the following hole in security: A critical vulnerability exists in Adobe Flash Player 10.1.82.76 and earlier versions for Windows, Macintosh, Linux, and Solaris, and Adobe Flash Player 10.1.92.10 for Android. … This vulnerability (CVE-2010-2884) could cause a crash and potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system. | HTC Upcoming Android Based Tablet Expected to Run Tegra 2 Posted: 20 Sep 2010 12:44 PM PDT Rumors of an HTC tablet are continue to hit the net, regardless of HTC's stance on their development of a tablet device. This new tablet is going to be one of the most impressive tablets hardware wise we will see for a while, if released. The mysterious device is said to be housing a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and a capacitive multi-touch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 720 (720p). All of this coming at a hefty price, around $790. ![]()
Other presumed specs include a 32GB SSD, 2 GB of RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. It will run some form of Android with Chrome web-app support as well as access to the Android Market. 3G may be coming but no word has been leaked on which carriers would be providing the service for the powerful tablet. 3G would make sense because it would also open the door to subsidies to take off some of the sting of a nearly $800 device with a 2-year contract. We have already heard word via Taiwan based component makers that HTC may be releasing a tablet in the first quarter of 2011. It's expected to run Android 3.0 Gingerbread however, with specs this powerful, it may open the door to more complex operating systems. [Via SlashGear] ) |
