Bring on the tablet wars! Will you be buying a 3G Samsung Galaxy Tab? Let us know which way you’ll be voting with your wallet in the comment below! Out TBC | £TBC | Vodafone Related posts:

| IFA 2010: Samsung booth tour featuring Galaxy Tab, and yet more 3D Posted: 03 Sep 2010 11:50 AM PDT The Samsung hall at IFA, like many of the big stands here, is full of 3D. 3D gaming, 3D TVs, 3D Blu-ray players. But one thing that caught our eye was an enormous 3D glasses-less screen. In terms of what it was like, because obviously we can’t show it you in pictures, we’d say it was very different from polarised or active shutter 3D. It had lower resolution, and seemed more blocky – it was like a giant Nintendo 3DS screen. Click through for a full booth tour…

| Nokia and BlackBerry back new wireless power gear Posted: 03 Sep 2010 09:44 AM PDT
Due to launch this autumn, the Energizer Inductive Charger (pictured) will allow you to top up the battery on your iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and BlackBerry Curve 8900, as long as they're clad in the right charging sleeves. It's a lot like the Palm Touchstone, but compatible with more kit. Last year we reported on Nokia's involvement in the Global Qi standard, and other companies like Olympus, Philips and Samsung are apparently readying their own Global Qi kit. Sanyo, meanwhile, has promised wireless-charging battery packs that'll work with existing mobile devices. Exciting times for wire-hating gadget fans. | Windows Phone 7: Zune Pass UK pricing leaks Posted: 03 Sep 2010 09:10 AM PDT
In fact, Zune Pass is priced pretty reasonably (assuming the leaked info is on the money). It'll set you back £8.99 for a month, or £26.97 for three months. Yes, we know that doesn't actually represent a discount – why Microsoft didn't just make it £25 (or less) we don't know. You can also trial the service free of charge for 14 days. The weird thing about the Zune Pass pricing is that it says "plus tax", which doesn't ring true. Why wouldn't Microsoft include VAT in its pricing, given that Zune Pass is clearly aimed at consumers rather than business users? Hopefully that's an error and will be wiped off by the time the info goes official. The Zune Pass music service is expected to go live with the launch of Windows Phone 7 handsets in October. The subscription enables you to download as many songs as you like from the millions-strong library, and you can listen to these as many times as you like, provided you keep up the subscription. In addition, you'll get 10 song credits per month, and any songs you download using these you'll own forever, regardless of whether you renew your Zune Pass or not. | BBC iPlayer social redesign rolls out next week Posted: 03 Sep 2010 09:04 AM PDT
Speaking on the BBC Internet Blog, head of BBC iPlayer James Hewines confirmed that the new design (pictured) and personalisation features (intelligent recommendations, we first heard about in May will roll out next week. He also gives several interesting stats, noting that between 8 and 10 percent of BBC iPlayer use is in the new beta mode, and that people using it watch more shows on average. | Samsung Galaxy Player: new Android iPod touch rival Posted: 03 Sep 2010 08:36 AM PDT
The Samsung Galaxy Player 50 also offers a 2MP camera, DivX video playback, Wi-Fi, GPS, 8GB or 16GB of built-in storage (backed up by a microSD slot allowing you to expand the total storage to 32GB), microphone and an FM radio. The screen is WQVGA, but it's a regular old LCD rather than a super lovely AMOLED. So, yep, the Samsung Galaxy Player 50 is pretty much an Android smartphone without the phone. It'll give you access to the apps in the Android Market, as well as the Google Experience stuff: Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube and the rest. All things considered, it seems Samsung has put together a PMP package to rival the new iPod touch. We don't have a release date or pricing info for the Samsung Galaxy Player 50 yet, but we'll let you know when we do. Out TBC | £TBC | Samsung (via Engadget) Related posts:

The Mio GPS Car Kit can also deliver its voice directions through the speakers of your car stereo – pretty standard stuff, but handy. And as well as the iPhone 4, it'll also work with the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and second generation and up iPod Touch models, and charges the battery of whatever is docked. You might be wondering why the Mio GPS Car Kit needs its own GPS receiver, given that all the above Apple gear (iPod Touch aside) comes with built-in GPS. Well, Mio says it means you don't need to rely on a phone GPS – its receiver is more reliable and more powerful. One thing it doesn't offer is Mio's own satnav software – although Mio says it will work with "most navigation software" for the iPod Touch and iPhone. The Mio GPS Car Kit is out this month, and will be sold in Argos stores. Out September | £99.99 | Mio Related posts:

Downloaded content can be watched offline, natch. BBC iPlayer Desktop will come pre-installed on Sony VAIO laptop and desktop PCs from September (i.e. "now"). You can also download it yourself here, as long as you have a Windows or Intel-based Mac computer. Out now | £Free | Sony Related posts:
