| Despite all the talk, we still don’t know what Facebook is up to Posted: 23 Sep 2010 09:44 AM PDT
But still, even after Facebook has spoken about the project and its possibilities, saying that we’re not going to see a Facebook phone anytime soon, we’re no closer to knowing what’s actually going on and where Facebook’s roadmap is headed. There’s a convenient grey area for Zuckerberg, around the fact that the building of a Facebook phone would be contracted out, and then branded with Facebook – if this happened, could we say Facebook had built this phone? Well, both yes and no. Yes, it is a Facebook phone, but strictly speaking, it was not built by Facebook. What do you think is going on here? What is Facebook doing? Is it building a Facebook phone? Click and tell, or drop your own theories in the comments!

| Sony Reader Touch unboxed: photos Posted: 23 Sep 2010 09:33 AM PDT The new Sony Reader Touch is now on sale, and we’ve got one of our own to find out whether it’s got the goods to take on the ultra slim new Amazon Kindle. We’ll have a full review of the Sony Reader Touch for you shortly, but in the meantime, check it out coming out of its box right here. Even in direct sunlight, there’s no glint off that touchscreen overlay, the real problem with last year’s version. Anything else you’d like to know? Drop it in the comments and we’ll cover it in the review next week! Related posts: |
| Mystery device: Electricpig readers take an educated guess Posted: 23 Sep 2010 08:53 AM PDT
Only 16 per cent of you think that the device is a phone, with almost nobody backing the O2 Cocoon theory. The rest of you posted your theories about the device, with a couple of people pointing out that the mystery device looks like a Nokia prototype, called the Kinetic, developed by a student. Another suggestion is that it's a new Flip camera, but to our ears, closest to the money was one user who suggests that the mystery device might be a Microvision ShowWX laser pico projector, and while it fits the criteria, the 'm' logo on the front does not match the Microvision logo. It does seem to be some sort of portable projection device – this is what the specs suggest, and there's also no specs listed in the ad that indicate that the device has any phone or web browsing functionality – 45 lumens, the strength of the light, is listed in the specs, but there's no mention of a processor, operating system, or anything else that would indicate it's a communications device. The ad was uploaded to Jimmy Fallon's YouTube page with the message that we'd find out what the device is on Thursday, which is today. Watch this space. Or, if you're in the US, watch Jimmy Fallon, and drop us a line to tell us what this is all about! Related posts:

| Dell Streak 7in tablet teased: Dell Looking Glass returns! Posted: 23 Sep 2010 06:35 AM PDT
Dell didn't reveal any of the specs for the 7in tablet which sports the same looks as the Dell Streak but we've got a good idea of what it'll come packing. The specs outlined for the Dell Looking Glass in the leaked presentation promise a Tegra 2 chip inside, built-in 3G, an optional TV tuner, a 1.3MP front-facing camera, accelerometer, A-GPS and a compass. We were also teased with 4GB RAM, 4GB of flash storage and an SDHC slot to bump that up to 32GB. When we last saw the 7in Dell Streak/Dell Looking Glass it was set to run Android 2.1 but with any luck it'll drop with Android Froyo when it launches in October. The Dell Streak Android 2.1 update has only just arrived and is waiting on the Android Froyo update we're all really after so Dell’s got form for shipping aging incarnations of Android. Michael Dell has form for showing off new tech just before it launches so we'll hopefully see the larger Dell Streak/Dell Looking Glass launching for real soon. The original Dell Looking Glass leak pegged it for a November release. Reuters snapped a picture of the Michael Dell brandishing the new device on stage which you can see at the previous link. The pic above is the earlier leaked Dell Looking Glass image. If you're already a fan of the Dell Streak or have been sizing it up as an alternative to the iPad, are you tempted by the prospect of a 7in Dell Looking Glass tablet?
