Early T-Mobile G2 hardware issues, Missing storage, loose hinges [Video] Posted: 01 Oct 2010 06:35 PM PDT The highly anticipated T-Mobile G2 is making it's way into eager customers hands. However, it's not all good news. Early reports from a few close with the device have noticed that their devices have shipped with hinges that are not fully attached, and even – in some reports – their devices are not shipping with the correct amount of storage. ![]() The hinge problem may not be directly annoying in everyday use of the phone, but it could be unsettling knowing your phone is not as solid as you would expect it to be. The real issue here is the hinge is especially loose and the screen is hanging when the phone is held upside down, as seen in the image above. A more practical annoying fault of this issue is when you're holding the phone at some angles, the screen will snap shut. The second issue involves the storage shipping inside the devices not being what users have actually ordered. In some cases shipped G2 that are said to contain 4GB of internal storage and were clocking in with a total of 2GB. We, as well, have no idea how such a mix up would happen but we expect either exchanges for customers made available or a larger microSD card to compensate for the storage loss. More on this issue will definitely be coming in the coming days. To our forum members who have ordered a G2, are you experiencing any issues? Let us know in the comment section below! Verizon Releasing Star Wars App Pack Next Week Posted: 01 Oct 2010 02:31 PM PDT The Motorola R2-D2 Droid 2 was released just yesterday, but it looks like all of those Star Wars fans that weren’t able to get their hands on it aren’t being left completely in the dark. There’s been talks about a special Empire Strikes Back applications package that would be released some time after the launch of the device. If sources are correct, then it looks like the app pack could be available exclusively for Verizon customers beginning next week.
The sources, speaking with Droid-Life suggest that October 4th could be the launch date for the app pack. Inside the package, you’ll get some new Live Wallpapers, trivia games, some new widgets, photo galleries, and even new sounds for your device. Of course, if you already have the R2-D2 edition of the Droid 2, then none of these things will be new to you. The application package will apparently cost $2.99 when it does go on sale in the Android Market. And if you’re still on the fence about the new Droid on the block, check out our hands-on time with the device. And watch the video below to see it in action. [via Droid-Life] ) |
Google’s Car Home Application Updated, Now Features Customization Posted: 01 Oct 2010 02:21 PM PDT Google has announced that they’ve updated their Car Home for Android application, and now it boasts customization features. Available now in the Android Market for easy download, it’s currently only supported on two devices: the Nexus One by HTC, and the Motorola Droid. Users of the application will now be able to customize the icons that are displayed in the app, utilizing the new shortcuts to access information and other applications. You can now access the Car Home application by setting the device into the car dock for each of the smartphones, or by pairing a Bluetooth headset.
If that’s not enough customization for you, users will also be able to put their own background. You’ll also be able to set the color of the shortcuts, if you so desire. What’s more, is that applications that support the Car Mode will be featured in the Car apps category, so they can be added to the shortcut list easily. You’ll need Android 2.2 to make this happen, as well as the aforementioned handsets. [via Google Mobile Blog] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Microsoft Files Patent Lawsuit Against Motorola Posted: 01 Oct 2010 02:13 PM PDT In a public statement, Microsoft has announced that they have filed a patent lawsuit against Motorola with the International Trade Commission, based on the essential functionality that Motorola employs in their Android-based smartphones. Microsoft is saying that Motorola has violated several patents, all of which have something to do with specific uses of the User Experience. The lawsuit was filed in the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington earlier today.
Microsoft says that their action today “merely seeks to ensure respect for our intellectual property rights infringed by Android devices.” They go on to add that, recent patent lawsuits filed by Apple and Oracle suggest that the Redmond-based company is not alone in their desires. The lawsuit focuses on Motorola’s implementation of synchronizing email, contacts, and calendars, as well as scheduling meetings. It also entails notifying applications regarding battery level and changes in signal strength. You can read the full press release below. Press Release ) |
