Shiny Toothbrush Holders

Posted: 05 Oct 2010 07:36 AM PDT

Shame on you for not thinking about your toothbrush! It needs the perfect glam house for the 23 hours and 55 minutes that it spends alone…assuming you brush for 5 minutes straight. Something like the luxe Viktor Toothbrush Holders that are shiny and totally oomph, a strong departure from the plastic and ceramic ones I grew up with!

Alarm Clocks Are So Redundant….

Posted: 05 Oct 2010 05:39 AM PDT

It's time to move on and discard phone alarms and clocks! This is the new age people; we need cooler and hipper gear like this Alarm Pillow! It gently vibrates at the given hour, to wake you up with a buzz. And if you don't get out of the bed, your head-weight acts as the snooze trigger. How awesome is that! The label-trigger is clever and fitting, I so need this for my sleepyhead daughter!

Chompers on Laundry

Posted: 05 Oct 2010 12:03 AM PDT

If you’re the sort of person who has the opportunity and time to hang your laundry up to dry after you’re done washing it, you know how much fun it can be to get all of those clips out and hang up every little bit of your favorite threads. It’s time to make it MORE fun to do, now, here, with Crocodile Pegs! They’re plastic, so the rotting wood and rusting metal of traditional pegs wont mess with the cleanliness of your clothing any more. Come and gettum’ in 5 fluorescent colors in packs of 12 or 30!

The images you see below of many different kinds of pegs are part of the brainstorming process. The Crocodile peg has had many forms, having been perfected now and jammed tight into a 30 peg box for your purest of fresh-air fantasies! Long lasting, cute, and because it’s so bright, basically impossible to loose in the grass or to a squirrel who is a notorious collector of nest making materials.

Fish Tank of Eternal Life

Posted: 05 Oct 2010 12:03 AM PDT

Designer Rob Maslin would like us all to think of the following phrase while looking at his project (in this post) and while going about creating industrial designs for the rest of our conscious lives: There is no such thing as sustainable product, only the by-products of a sustainable system. To be sustainable, first we must establish a close-loop system and the carrying capacity, then the system must be managed and not over- or under-consumed.” Thusly Maslin presents an aquaponic project by the name of “Free Lunch.” It’s an office-based fishtank with a loop of production and two sources of food.

Salad for the humans as well as fish, if the fish start to overpopulate of course. While the fish are alive, they create waste in the form of ammonia which is turned into nitrite, then nitrates by bacteria in the water. The nitrates are filtered through the plant bed above, the plants cleaning the water for the fish to live in, creating a lovely little circle of life, a closed-loop system with two food crops.

Rob Maslin lets us know that this system, with a 225 liter volume fish tank will grow approximately ten 15cm plants per week, which is enough for an average size bunch of basil or salad leaves on a four-week cycle. To produce a “decent-sized” edible fish stock, (for example, 18cm carp,) the tank would have to be twice the size it is shown in the example in the gallery here. The perfect balance is yet to be found!

Teaset of Istanbul

Posted: 05 Oct 2010 12:03 AM PDT

When I heard the title of this project “Morgenland” I immediately thought of “Zombieland,” but this is a much more relaxed situation. No zombies here, especially if this tea set does the caffeine trick. This teaset, or tea service, was inspired by a visit by the designer to Istanbul – Zitta Schnitt speaks of the magnificent mosques these lovely bits of porcelain are aiming to represent. Elements so delicate they’re only perceptible through hands-on experience, this set contains a teapot, milk jug, sugar bowl, dessert plate, cup, and saucer.

These lovely bits are made of Hutschenreuther porcelain and are glossy glazed. Have a lovely teatime with these and munch on a bunch of teatime cookies. Those are my favorite part of the whole situation!
