Hand Crafted And All Wood Shades Posted: 06 Oct 2010 01:35 AM PDT It's back to Mother Nature as far as the Shwood sunglasses are concerned. Handcrafted with a mix of precision technology and good ol’ fashioned craftsmanship, this collection features shades made from East Indian Rosewood coupled with mirrored and polarized lenses. The style seen here is called Ashland that comes packaged in a protective wooden hard case; crafted from a mix of Walnut and European Maple. A lot of wood in there I tell you! Fashionable and chic! Price begins at $145 a piece. Designer: Shwood ---------- |
Posted: 06 Oct 2010 01:18 AM PDT The Lum is a unique project that looks at making a smoke alarm/detector a useful handy light during an emergency. The idea is thus: Lum is an attachment between the light bulb and its socket. It draws energy from the bulb in its latent state and when the smoke alarm triggers, it produces a sonar alert plus powers the bulb for emergency lighting. In short, during its standby mode, whenever you switch on the light bulb during daily routine, it recharges Lum's batteries. I find it an efficient solution as a fire alarm. Posted: 06 Oct 2010 12:04 AM PDT This project goes by the wacky, wild, and fun name “Monkey Hangers” and as you can see by the skillfully photographed image of the muscle man going at one of the pinks with his harsh hands, they’re indestructible. Mark Marzouk of M-Design’s made these Monkey Hangers, resistant to stretched shoulders, sharp edges, and poor materials. With one swoop, Marzouk takes care of another one of our every-day objects left to time to deteriorate. Another step toward perfection in the hanging up of clothing is achieved. Of course nothing is completely unbreakable, these hangers certainly would be crushed under a street-flattener or if someone decided to dip them in dry ice and smash them into the tabletop. But look, look at how much the man bends. Look at how nice the packaging. What a simple well-put-together product. And so bright! Designer: Mark Marzouk of M-Design ---------- |
Posted: 06 Oct 2010 12:03 AM PDT This right here is a prosthetic leg for women, and women specifically. This is “Outfeet,” a limb made to tend to unique needs women with an amputated leg face or might face on a daily basis. Outfeet is made to tend to the often failed attempts of prosthetic groups to create a limb that replicates the look and workings of the female silhouette and muscle structure. Outfeet aims to be not only a medical device but a fashion accessory as well. Recreations of the spirit through the leg. The leg has bones and flexible skins that can be stretched onto its carbon fiber body. The body gives Outfeet the volume and silhouette of a leg without compromising the functionality of the leg or overloading it with weight. Now all you’ve got to know is the last detail, that being the music used in the fantastic explanation video below: it’s Onili, an excellent bit of music if I do say so myself. Posted: 06 Oct 2010 12:03 AM PDT This is the “Granny” wall shelf as designed by Beerd van Stokkum. It’s a shelf recalling a classic tradition of grandmother’s shelf with a cute little doily hanging off the side. Nostalgic nature and cut-steel construction. It’s strong enough to hold up a number of large objects, ideal for books, plants, pots, or even a medium sized television. Granny wall shelf is 85 cm long and 22.5 cm deep. It comes in black or white, finished with a finely structured UV proof powder coating. It’s got a lightly grained feel and a deep matt look. Granny works inside or outside, its structure being safe for both, but watch out to make sure you use stainless steel screws if you’re going for the outdoor option. The shelf needs only 2 screws, Granny using a blind method of hanging, the screws being hidden neatly behind the supports. Made in Holland, guaranteed to be produced in a way that’s fair and efficient for the workers and the environment. Designer: Beerd van Stokkum ---------- |
