Err, Yes It’s A Water Droplet!

Posted: 27 Oct 2010 03:01 AM PDT

Igor Palichev of the DarkDesignGroup wrote to me saying their new design is inspired by the water droplet. But the naughty side of me refuses to look at the Bool Bool Faucet with innocent eyes! This concept bath mixer combines the two mechanisms: the mixing of hot and cold water, and regulating water pressure; in one protruding rubbery adjustment. A vertical shift controls the water pressure and a horizontal flick, the temperature. Honestly, am I the only one who thinks this a wicked design in a very cute way?

TAG-Heuer Formula-1 Watch

Posted: 27 Oct 2010 02:28 AM PDT

As we know TAG-Heuer is celebrating 150 years of being in the business and The Carrera Calibre 1887 Chronograph is already on our wishlist. So it comes as a great pleasure when designers decide to commemorate the event with their own refreshing take. Inspired by the TAG-Heuer Grand Carrera Calibre 36 RS Caliper Chronograph model, designer Peter Vardai chose to model his version on Formula-1 and Mercedes-Benz combo. Awesome!

All over the design one can find references to Formula-1 and Mercedes-Benz. The sport car effect is emphasized by the arms with vivid red inlet. Pressing the buttons on both sides of the Mercedes logo releases the strap. The source of the light airy character of the watch is the placement of the arms. The arms are placed on great cogwheels which make them rotate not around the center but connected to the rim. By this and the non-continuous strap I could achieve the light air of the inner surfaces. Out of the three middle arms the left one is the tenth, the right one is the hundredth seconds while the bottom one displays the charge of the watch. The button is placed in the first TAG-Heuer logo. The watch is supplied with both a rubber and a metal strap.

The Future’s an Original Taxi Cab

Posted: 27 Oct 2010 12:04 AM PDT

It’s not often we get cars designed around here designed specifically to be a taxi cab. That’s what’s going on here in this Mercedes Benz branded Nimbus, designed by Slavche Tanevski. What makes this particular design special is that it’s sort of an official project, having been completed during an internship in Slavche Mercedes Exterior Design Studio, with the support of the exterior designer Michael Fry (Michael Frei) and chief designer of the exterior of Robert Forester (Robert Lesnik).

Made for the year 2025, this Nimbus is electric, having four electric motors mounted in the hubs using lithium ion batteries under the floor. Because of this placement (rather than the motor being up front), there’s enough room to push the driver forward to make room for another row of seats. The element you see above the driver seat acts as both as what the designer calls an aerodynamic and protective function as well as being a visual separator between the driver and the people he or she is driving around the town.

In the passenger seats, there’s room for up to 5 adults or 3 adults with all their luggage. Large glass windows afford the passengers and the driver lots of room to see, and the trunk (or the boot, depending on where you’re reading this), is low to the ground and between the rear wheels, designed as more of a drawer than a traditional trunk.

This vehicle is designed as a tribute to the world’s first motorized taxi cab, the Victoria, built by Daimler in 1897. Take a peek at that and tell us if you can see the giant similarities. Love it!

What Happens when Apps go Automotive?

Posted: 27 Oct 2010 12:03 AM PDT

That’s the question this fabulous designer by the name of Jeongche Yoon is asking. This is an electric car that not only paves the way for the future with its energy saving functionality, but with its plug-n-play app-market outlook for the future of car interactivity! This tiny car saves space by not being excessive, saves energy by being electric, and aims to have high consumer appeal and be fun, fashionable, and affordable.

Inspired by the relatively-new Smartphone industry, this car concept connects to people with the open-source marketing of an app store. Null has a docking station at the back where physical “apps” (functional modules) can be docked so that people can have the details they choose on their car simply and with as little an amount of effort as pressing a button. Standard specifications and big changes.

Take a peek at the images below and jam to the amazing music of the video presentation, and think about the car market today. What can you do to your auto that’s both legal and affordable? Not much! You can Pimp Your Ride, but that’s really out-of-league for most people who don’t have massive wads of cash, or you can put bumper stickers on your bumper. What else besides painting your car to be wild can you do?

Not much, that’s what. Not much at all. Jeongche Yoon, make a future of automobile customization for everyone a reality!

A Smooth Comfort Relaxer

Posted: 27 Oct 2010 12:03 AM PDT

Oh man, you know how you feel when you see a chair that you just KNOW you’re about to sit down in and soon after that fall asleep in a state of perfect relaxation? That’s what’s happening right now. This is the Eslide deck chair designed by MUB. These sassy mommas are made entirely of plastic and wood, made in an ergonomically-charged shape, refined for your total at-ease mind.

Looks nice, yes? I imagine these would look best in the environments they’re presented in the gallery below, but I sure wouldn’t mind having a bunch of these bolted to the ground at my favorite beach. Right? Sleepy time.
