Overcoming The Blind Spots While Driving

Posted: 04 Nov 2010 04:47 AM PDT

Ever been a victim to blind spots while driving? The Full-Rear-View Windscreen Monitor aids in overcoming those spots so that you have a safer drive. The system consists of consists of two parts: a windscreen display and micro cameras installed on the car's exterior. It uses the upper part of the windscreen to display a real-time image of the vehicle's surroundings (as captured by the cameras). I think the option could prove to be a double-edged sword, because plenty of you driving veterans are sure gonna get distracted by the secondary display!

Here is how the system works:

The micro cameras are set up on both the sides and back of the car. Image processing technology is incorporated. The separate images captured by the micro cameras are combined and displayed on the windscreen seamlessly. The advanced technology used means that even in low-light conditions (for example, at night or on rainy days), visibility is still very good. Furthermore, a car full of passengers or cargo will not impede the driver's vision.

By The Power Of Rings

Posted: 04 Nov 2010 02:49 AM PDT

The RIMA lamp is an awesome beauty that has what it takes to be artistic and fun. Four controller rings manage the whole show…sliding them left to right or vice versa illuminates the LEDs or switches them off. The heat, intensity, angle of the beam and color are controlled via these rings, however a processor, which detects the position of each single ring, regulates the actions.

This processor drives the power supply to the LED's that are placed either in front of or behind each ring. The changes to intensity and angle etc are done when you mount one ring onto the first and forming a dial.

The lamp looks real fancy and full-on interactive fun!

A Hut of Paper and Light

Posted: 04 Nov 2010 12:03 AM PDT

The following project is called Empapeladas Espacio Efimero and it was made by Kumi Furio and Yolanda Herraiz. This is more of an art project than a design project, but then again, who’s to say? Made entirely out of paper, created by a series of paper laminas, repeated and repeated until a space was formed, one where you go inside and you’re only surrounded by paper and light. Such an experience have I never experienced. Are you experienced?

It’s what’s called an ephemeral space, made to put the viewer in a space where they would be allowed to explore for themselves the boundaries broken down by sewn paper and light. Filtering down and around through the paper is light, light that once you’re inside somehow becomes more of a presence even though it’s been filtered downward into a haze. Lovely magical artwork.

Time Capturing Vessels

Posted: 04 Nov 2010 12:03 AM PDT

The first concern of this project is to think of vessels in which time can be captured. Inside this collection are four lines of work: solar, lunar, eclipse, and spiral, all of them suggesting geometric strategies, the four of them together achieving a balance in the same sort of manner as the four traditional elements: fire, earth, air, and water. These are the reconfigured words of Deunor Bregana and Anne Ibanez Guridi of Atelier Laia for their porcelain collection “o! luna.”

Each of these items hopes to achieve something greater than the original plates, for example, which were made to fit industrial requirements and did not take into account the fine diner. In another piece, water is the inspiration, it’s structure capturing the light in such a sway way. In another, the sensuality of the human body. Finally, the spiral, carrier of mysteries.

This collection does not seem like a limited collection, and I hope it continues on for a long time. It’s totally beautiful and thought out to the maximum. Materials and processes mix to form a really wonderful set of wares.

Zippers for your Choco Drinking

Posted: 04 Nov 2010 12:02 AM PDT

If you’re the sort of person who reads Yanko Design all the time, you may remember just the other day when we posted a cup of some creepy magnitude. T’was a Teeth Mug and it touched its deadly chompers to your as you sipped. Now there’s something else. A bit of a zip. The Zipper Cup (believe it or not, designed by the same designer as the Teeth Mug) comes in a set of two so you can bundle up for the winter with a nice jacket of hot cocoa with a friend or loved one. Or if you love your friends, the same person.

These cups are white ceramic and are sold as a pair with two zippy coasters and set inside an original gift box (tea bag not included.)
