Posted: 17 Nov 2010 02:11 AM PST The Second Life Mobile Phone Concept works on the premise that we often forget about the battery life of our mobile phones, hence run out of juice, just at the wrong time. As a remedy (rather power-saver-option) the phone incorporates a double display. When in active use the AMOLED screen powers up in all glory and in standby mode the E-ink display gets active. This essentially means that the E-ink uses very little energy and the degree of transparency of the display shows how much battery is remaining. The more transparent the display, the less battery remaining. So besides ultra-low power consumption, the transparent screen offers an intuitive expression: "You're low on juice so better recharge the phone soon!" Apparently the E-ink uses power to change the degree of transparency and doesn't add to the battery load. I like the idea behind the concept and its transparent vibe, but I guess its more aimed at a niche set of people who keep forgetting to put their phone on charge. Akin to playing the maracas, these shakers bring back the fun-element in cooking. Handcrafted in fine bone china, they come in three versions and two finishes: salt and pepper, salt and chilli or sugar and cocoa; in red or black silicone rubber seals finishes. My pick is the sugar and cocoa in black! Designer: Ingrid Ruegemer ---------- |
Posted: 17 Nov 2010 12:03 AM PST Uh oh! Looks like designer Sylvain Gerber is at it again! This time with something completely different than a speaker flake: this one is branded with the high quality field pen brand Rotring and called "FLEX MECH." It’s a flexible topped pen where the flexible rod is housed in a guide tube which pushes the ink down with a spring, then brought out the mine at the bottom. What a weird pen situation! I know I always love my pens to do gymnastics, and this is no letdown. The bottom of the pen is made of aluminum and painted black, the rest is a comfortable mesh I’m sure will be more than comforting for your everyday usage. Lovin it. Posted: 17 Nov 2010 12:03 AM PST This is Yoyo Furniture and it’s designed by none other than Juil Kim, the designer who brought you that fabulous bike with an iPhone in it. Neato. This design is far from that. This design is a piece of furniture that’s all about adjustment. You can move it up, you can move it down. Don’t expect to move it around very much though because it’s HEAVY! This bit of furniture is made of glossy ABS, glossy anodized legs, and a concrete base. Wowie! Adjust the height of your table – of course! Just screw it that way or this way just a bit and you’ve got your perfect height for whichever activity you happen to be doing at the time. And then there’s a lovely little dish to uncover and put your peanuts in too. How convenient. Designer: Juil Kim ---------- |
Posted: 17 Nov 2010 12:01 AM PST What you’re about to see is the Octopus clock by Sebastian Oeyen of Arista Design. It’s constructed of polyester resin and anodized aluminum. It is not the sort of clock to sit still, certainly if you’re rocking the surface it’s sitting on, but that’s the idea! The concept for this idea, says Oeyen, comes from time and dynamism. Time, he says, is not static, and thusly, neither is this clock. It moves like a rocking chair and stands by equilibrium. Often we share with you here at Yanko Design projects that are not yet created, conceptual and someday ready they will be. That’s not the case here though, all you gift givers, as Oeyen not only has them for sale, he’s his own salesman. Take a walk over to his site and ask for more info!
