Chubbify Your iPhone 4

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 07:41 AM PST

I just find this iPhone 4 case by Arkwhat hilarious. While Apple spends millions on R&D to make their phone as thin as possible, a soft goods manufacturer puts out a case to make it as fat as possible. The Arkhippo I – Love it! It’s made of dense foam in a myriad of colors – super lightweight and shaped like an old school brick. Yes, I’m sure those of you old enough to remember the beginnings of cellular technology will remember how FAT phones were.

Aside from the constant looks and side-eyes I received from strangers, I didn’t mind the case at all. Forget about carrying this in your pocket. You’re gonna need a purse or a murse… wait, a man bag? It’s also the ONLY iPhone case I actually believed would protect my phone from a perilous fall and sure enough, not a single scratch. It’s not for everyone but definitely a fun gift.

What we loved:

  • Goes against the grain, fat phones for everybody!
  • Can stand on its own.
  • Thoughtful notch at the bottom so speaker isn’t hidden.
  • Lots of colors!

What could be improved:

  • Umm, neon lights?

Sit On Concrete And Wood

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 07:32 AM PST

Bench #13 is the latest in the evolving bench series by Nico Yektai. The asymmetrical treatment of the richly colored Sapele components play against the stark white cast concrete legs. These disparate components are tied together by the hand of the artist as pieces are added on and then sculpted back until they become an essential part of the composition. Not usually my cup of tea but I’ve been really interested in wood and concrete pieces lately.

Best iPod Nano Watch Strap?

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 07:28 AM PST

There are several other companies making watch straps for Apple’s latest iPod Nano but the NanoWatch is by far my favorite. The designers have been working feverishly since the Nano (6G) made its debut and although technically late in the game, I believed it paid off. The back of the strap is debossed to perfectly level the Nano’s built-in clip. It’s the only company I know of that makes their straps out of eco-friendly silicon – that’s no nickel or phthalater. It’s also the only company who makes silicon to perfectly match the Nano’s color range. Only €18.00.

Prized Animal Heads!

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 01:15 AM PST

We are against blood and gore here at YD that hunting or hurting animals is so not our scene! The only way we like to enjoy their company is as pets or these miniature Shot Glasses. Grab a bunch of them and endorse your own select style…use them as candleholders, paperweights or simply for décor! Each glass comes with a pewter animal head: Bull, Bear, Moose, Rhinoceros, Deer, Rabbit and Ram. Balance them on their nose, horns and ears, get creative and have fun!

Available in Black And White

Configure Your Picnic Mat

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 01:00 AM PST

M.A.T. or Mat Air Together offers different permutations and combinations to the humble picnic mat, just to make your ground level seating a bit more comfy. Air pockets in different areas inflate to become pillows, a table and even armrests. Individualize your preference and enjoy your picnic! Err… high-heels and pins and banned for obvious reasons!

Sands Of Traffic Times!

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 12:20 AM PST

The Sand Glass is a new look at traffic lights. Surely people must be frustrated with the current design, which is why we have seen THREE DIFFERENT DESIGNS recently. Make this the fourth dimension using the sand-hour-glass as its model. LED lights trickle down to make an obvious statement, regarding the time left for the lights to change. Easy and intuitive.

This Seat’s a Circle Library

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 12:11 AM PST

This project must begin with an explanation of what long form and short form are to the designer Thomas Mills – simply: long form is things that take more than a few seconds to access, that being books and films, etc, and short form is internet, magazines, text messages. This project encapsulates the longer, more involved library of items surrounding the person accessing it. This circle stands 246cm tall, made entirely from hand-cut plywood.

As you sit within the cradle, it rocks gently back and forth. Don’t get going too fast or you’ll roll all the way away. This library can hold its own weight in books (and I’d wager even more, by the looks of it), the cushioned seat a nod to the futuristic furniture found in Stanley Kubrick films, especially 2001. Reading lamps are placed for reading in the most obvious manner, while lights placed around the circumference act as a clock, timers changing the brightness of them to its highest at the equinox of the day, dimmed to nothing at midnight. Strange!

Mills would also like to let you know that the structure is for sale for £6000, but he will not ship it. Instead, if you live abroad and would like to have your own, he’d love for you to fly him out and make one for you (for a similar cost, I’m sure.) Buy one up!

Organic Watch of Simplicity

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 12:03 AM PST

Designer Fatih Baltas has a little something for your wrist – a single (or combination of) color and a simple function – telling time in red, blue, white, green, yellow, pink, brown, black, all in the brightness and gloss to gloss the ages. This is the Saat watch. Bursting colors and hi-poly lines yell modernity quite loudly. An extremely simple design, stark, blasting, and lovely. Makes you feel like you’re adding a piece to your body rather than covering a bit of it up.

Tiny Slick Little Yacht

Posted: 18 Nov 2010 12:03 AM PST

You know, of all the things I thought I’d be writing about in my life, I never thought it’d be yachts. Yet, here Yanko Design, I’ve certainly seen my fair share. We’ve got yachts from here to there, yachts everywhere! Do a search for just the word “yacht” and you’ll see what I mean. The yacht you’re about to look at goes by the name “The Little Tender” and it’s designed by a mister Niels Caris. It’s a fast 22 foot long boat inspired by classic Italian Aqua Riva, and it’s slick as heck.

This boat also contains contemporary influences like yacht builder Frauscher. You’ll also notice some fluid lines and soft volumes looking like their straight off a 1950s automobile, just a sliding through the air. This boat was meant to be both compact and integrated in appearance. Table, lighting, and cleats are flush fitted, anchor and rear access steps are concealed behind a hatch.

This yacht comes in both silent cruiser mode with small sun deck and high performance with a covered rear end. Choice one makes this boat a hybrid : gas turbine with electric propulsion, while choice two presents 350 V8. Rockin and rollin.
