Teapot Coin Bank by Yi Weishen

Penny saved is penny earned, that's the mantra I am trying to teach my children these days! What better way than a coin back to get them started young. However my children love this bank because the spout doles out coins saved…citing today is the rainy day!

Price: $32

MeasureMe Stick by Studio 1 a.m.

How fast they grow! So many of us parents keep saying that. There is such an emotional attachment to every height measurement we take, marking each time how grown up our children are…and how soon they will fly the nest.

Available in 3 colors: Yellow, Red & Grey
Price: $120

Ninja Shuriken Magnets by Liu Chen Hsu

My son loves this just for the Ninja appeal! The magnet doubles up for imaginary secret marks that ninjas used while delivering messages. It connects the connotation of shuriken and secret mark to imply that an announcement always carries an important message.

Each black set comes with 2 Ninja Shuriken Magnets in a ninja style package.
Price: $18

Zuny Animal Bookends

Imaginative and cute, the Zuny bookends find favor with my daughter. She says that Tumo, the lion reminds her of Simba (Lion King) and I quite agree! To keep Tumo company are Bobo the dinosaur, Babu the boar & Nell the sheep. A complete set that organize your books and tame the chaos!

Price: $48 each.

Garden Fresh Air At Home

Posted: 30 Nov 2010 01:19 AM PST

Yanko Design is not new to air purifier concepts, however when it comes to the real thing, we have seen very few. To make up for the loss here is the O – Two Air Purifier, a small compact air cleaner that fits into the home environment seamlessly. It uses BioOx organic compounds to remove 99.9% of pollutants from the air you breathe and is silent as a lamb. It generates zero harmful waste, uses no filters, and uses less than 6 watts of energy while running!

Design-wise it looks sleek; aluminum vent accents wrap around a black plastic enclosure, topped by a large auto-dimming capacitive screen.

The unit currently is available for $399 here.

Measuring Silk Straight!

Posted: 30 Nov 2010 01:00 AM PST

The SILK is an electronic measuring tape that is not a "tape" per se; it's a steel wire that winds out to do the deed. An electronic feedback on the screen gives you the measure, plus it does stuff like recording multi-time measurements. Since it's a steel wire, it can be used as a plumb as well thus making it a very handy tool.

SILK is a Red Dot Concept Design Award winning project.

Stacking with Age

Posted: 30 Nov 2010 12:03 AM PST

As a child grows, so to their toes grows – so do their legs grows, and so do their torsos grows. As a child grows, a parent might mark their height up against the wall with their age written close by. It is the warmth and positivity that this activity provides that designer Ho-Chieh Hsu hopes to capture and re-present in a chair which can be raised and lowered upon application or subtraction of books.

Lemme tell you about a couple things at this point: one, the immensely popular MeasureMe Stick by Studio 1a.m. which we’ve got both a post about and for sale in the YD Store, and two Mod U Me children’s furniture by Yana Tzanov and Stephanie Sauve, another bit of growing furniture that ties right in with this project “Stack Me Up” by Ho-Chieh Hsu. It is in this project that you find not only a chair that can grow upward as a child grows, but also acts as a storage place for those books while you’re not reading them. Encouragement for the kid! I can’t say quite as much for the spines of the books.

For Coats, Not Zapping!

Posted: 30 Nov 2010 12:02 AM PST

Our ol’ pal Michael Sholk is back, this time with something so simple, something so neat you wish you’d thought of it, that we’ll go ahead and call it Pop Art. That’s what Pop Art is, right? Something amazing, simple enough you could have done it yourself, but woops, you didn’t, so the person who made it gets all the genius points? That’s right! Michael Sholk’s a smart fellow. Once he put 2 and 2 together on this power-lines to coat-hanger idea, he got to hackin away at it, and poof! Here it is!

So simple, so fantastical. Michael Sholk you’ve done it again.

Material: Black lacquered wood
Size: 1843×813x680 mm

AKA Star Wars Moisture Vaporators

Posted: 30 Nov 2010 12:02 AM PST

If you’re the sort of person whose been living in the Western world over say, the past 30 years, you’ve seen or at least know about the first Star Wars movie: A New Hope. In this movie they speak briefly about this bit of technology called a moisture vaporator. It collects water in a way opposite of the evaporation process that sucked the land dry of its watery resources. In a very similar gesture, designers Chun Yen Tsao and Hsing-Tan Yang have created “Swater.”

What Swater does is use sunlight to collect clean distilled water from the condensation that builds up inside of the device. It’s eco friendly and probably will one day save the entire world. The awl-shaped cap has a solar panel that generates the energy needed to run the electrical heating tube and disinfecting light. Sounds reasonable, sounds fabulous. Skywalker approved, I’d bet.
