iGloLEDset Android-controlled multicolor Christmas lights released [Video] Posted: 21 Dec 2010 08:46 AM PST It’s not quite whole house automation from your Android smartphone, but if you’ve been looking at your Christmas tree in disgust as it cycles through its preset LED lighting patterns then you need MEA Mobile’s iGloLEDset. A string of 120 color-changing LED lights, the 5m string comes complete with an Android app to remotely control it. There are also iOS apps if you’re an Apple user too. The whole thing hooks up via WiFi, so you needn’t be in the same room as the tree either. Sadly this sort of Christmas control doesn’t come cheap; the iGloLEDset is priced at $299, though the company says they’re still shipping in time for Christmas day. Press Release: ) |

HTC Desire HD Heading to Saudi Arabia Posted: 21 Dec 2010 07:23 AM PST It looks as if the HTC Desire HD will soon be hitting the Saudi Arabian market. HTC announced their plans at a press conference in Jeddah on December 19th with stating that they are excited to bring the nation’s second Android-equipped device to market. ![]() Customers in Saudi Arabia have always been widely receptive to HTC products which is why they plan to introduce the Desire HD as well as the Windows Phone 7 HD7 into the market. Mohamed Kais Zribi, Regional Manager of HTC Middle East and North Africa said: “Customers in Saudi Arabia have been eagerly awaiting the launch of these new models. As far as the HTC Desire HD is concerned, I am confident that they will fully appreciate the new features and applications that we have introduced, especially its more engaging, intuitive, user-friendly design. We have likewise retained the attention-grabbing features of the phone, taking advantage of the powerful Android platform and the latest version of HTC Sense2.0, which has become a major hit among smartphone users.” Android is definitely making its way into very diverse markets, we can expect many more countries following suit and release a wide array of Android-equipped devices in 2011. Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play to be PlayStation gaming phone? Posted: 21 Dec 2010 05:26 AM PST Sony Ericsson’s PlayStation phone could well launch as the Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play, if a new batch of freshly-registered domains are anything to go by. XperiaX10Blog found Swedish PR agency – of whom Sony Ericsson is a client – Jung Relations has snapped up multiple “xperiaplay” domains, including the .com, .org, .co.uk and .net. Right now there are only holding pages to be found, but we’re guessing that will all change by the time the gaming smartphone is officially announced. That’s expected to happen at MWC 2011 this coming February, though the actual launch is yet to be pinned down: recent sources tipped a March launch, while a new report from Pocket-lint suggests it’s more likely to be April 2010, in the UK at least. ) |
CasaTunes offers first Android app for controlling multi-room music Posted: 21 Dec 2010 05:25 AM PST
CasaTunes says the app is free for all CasaTunes owners and a trial version will be offered for users to try before they buy CasaTunes hardware. The app is on the Android Market right now. "With the fast growth of Android devices, we felt that it was important to create a powerful, convenient and easy to use Android application to control our CasaTunes multi-room audio systems," said Kim Knapp, co-founder of CasaTunes. "With the Android app, homeowners who own one of the new Android based phones or tablets can select and play music in any room of the home where they have CasaTunes music, from anywhere in the home that is covered by their wireless network. Plus, they can create schedules for waking up to music, display and change the currently playing music and create CasaTunes Playlists. The new Android app for CasaTunes gives the owners the capability of complete control of their music from a modern, handheld device." ) |
Android users can get app for annual ball drop in Times Square Posted: 21 Dec 2010 04:49 AM PST
The app puts you in the middle of the Times Square action and you might even see your face on the giant Toshiba screen beneath the ball. You get a continuous countdown to show when the ball will drop. You can submit photos of your New Year’s festivities for other people to vote on. The app will also give you information about Times Square with weather, photos, maps, show schedule and more. Live streaming video will also be offered on the app and the countdown clock can be customized to your time zone. The video below shows the iPhone app, but the features are the same for Android. |
Dell 7-inch Streak gets name-check on Vaja case site Posted: 21 Dec 2010 04:21 AM PST Dell’s 7-inch Android tablet has shown up again, though only as a brief mention from luxury accessories manufacturer Vaja. The Vaja product page now lists Dell Streak 5″ & 7″ as a category, though so far there’s only a generic carry case for 7-inch tablets on offer. CEO Michael Dell brought the 7-inch tablet – also known by its Looking Glass codename – on stage back in September for a very brief demo, and shortly after the WSJ suggested the device would launch within mere weeks. That failed to transpire, however; hopefully Vaja’s mention of the tablet means it’s coming sooner rather than later. [via Streak Smart] ) |

Viewsonic denies GTablet hardware defects; promises software fix this week Posted: 21 Dec 2010 03:08 AM PST Viewsonic has blamed Android and Adobe’s Flash for poor first-impressions of its 10.1-inch GTablet slate, suggesting that the reason the Tegra 2 based tablet was pulled from Staples shelves over the weekend was not, as the retailer suggested, because of a “manufacturing defect” but merely a shortfall in “user experience”. The GTablet will get a software update by the end of this week that will apparently address complaints about the Tap ‘n’ Tap UI – including giving owners the opportunity to turn it off altogether – among other things. However, the GTablet will have to wait until the end of January 2011 for an update to Flash Player that will see the plugin certified by Adobe; Viewsonic has been impacted by the same issue that Advent reported earlier this month affecting its Vega tablet. Notion Ink sells out of Adam as pre-orders snapped up Posted: 21 Dec 2010 03:01 AM PST Notion Ink has sold out of its pre-order stock of the Adam tablet, though the 10-inch Tegra 2 powered slate isn’t expected to ship until early January 2011. Supplies of the Pixel Qi version of the Adam were snapped up within hours of the tablet going on sale earlier this month; it’s taken around a week and a half for stock of the cheaper LCD version to be accounted for. Without solid stock numbers it’s hard to say how much of a success this is for Notion Ink, though given the understandable wariness many have experienced regarding a new start-up and an unproved design, it’s still reasonably impressive. DROID Incredible gets MultiTouch Via Kernel Posted: 20 Dec 2010 11:48 AM PST XDA member tchebb has had the working 3-10 DROID Incredible kernel for quite some time and decided it was time to release to the world. Now DROID Incredible users can download a kernel that will bring true multitouch to their device. ![]() After hearing that the DROID Incredible’s screen was far better than the Nexus One’s, tchebb wondered why it would could only handle a maximum of two touches. The result of this curiosity was a new kernel that supports 3-10 fingers. He has been running this kernel for about a month and hasn’t noticed any ill effects. However, he does admit to it getting a bit buggy past 5 finger gestures. You can download and find instructions for the kernel at this thread. [Via XDA] ) |
