| Posted: 08 Jan 2011 10:31 AM PST We were able to get up close and personal with both of these tablets and we can vouch that they do indeed run smoothly. Vivliv says they are trying to work with Sprint to release the X7 on their network, but in their press release it’s stated that both of the devices will either land on WiMAX, 3G HSPA, or EVDO networks. Both will support bluetooth and have an “always-on” internet connection so checking email and surfing the internet will always be snappy.
Android 2.2 Froyo was preloaded on the device but they hope to have Android 3.0 Honeycomb up and running if at all possible before their releases in March and April. The two tablets will contain stand-alone GPS, a 3MP rear facing camera, and a 1.3MP front facing camera for video conferencing. Viliv also states these two tablets will have the longest lasting battery life that any Android Tablet has ever had; but of course we couldn’t test this feature.

| Android 2.3 Gingerbread Ported to iPhone 3G [Video] Posted: 08 Jan 2011 08:36 AM PST So, you’ve got a craving for a combination of the newest (not counting Honeycomb) Android OS, 2.3 Gingerbread, but you’d like it inside the body of an iPhone 3G? You’re in to the jailbreaking, but you’ve thus been unable to slap Apple in the face with a working copy of the Android mobile operating system? Look no further, for some dude by the name of nickpack (and his pals) have brought that situation straight into the real world – and since it’s working with the OpeniBoot project, it’s able to keep iOS as well in a dual-boot configuration, giving you an iPhone body able to run both iOS AND Android 2.3 inside.
This sort of thing has been done before, but this is the first time an Apple product has been able to run Gingerbread. Take a peek at the video below for what appears to be a fully functional (albeit slowly moving) version of Android 2.3 Gingerbread on a jailbroken iPhone 3G. [Via Twitter] ) |
| HTC Battery in Android Phone Blocks Bullet! Posted: 07 Jan 2011 06:25 PM PST After two men were kicked out of a nightclub in Atlanta opened fire upon it, a bullet nearly killed a valet. What saved him? His smartphone! Even though the shots from these two crazies were aimed at the club (wtf?), one managed to nearly kill valet Robert Altertini, but instead went into his jacket, shattered the glass in the phone was carrying, and stopped at the battery – tough! The phone appeared to be a candybar-style Android phone carrying one of those bright red HTC batteries inside.
Gorilla Glass be danged, get yourself a HTC battery! And that’s basically all there is to it. You can see more details about the case if you want, but the most important factoid is the bullet vs the battery, and the fact that it didn’t go through! What a magical story! [Via WSBTV] ) |
| HTC ThunderBolt System Dump and RUU – Leaked and Gigantic Posted: 07 Jan 2011 06:04 PM PST Take a peek at the three part leak download of the HTC ThunderBolt REE and System Dump for your very own exploration – it’s super big and huge and full of sweet junk. You’ll have your own look at a batch of elements including a 140MB golf game, VZW items including: BitBop, Nav, MobiTV, Mogstup, Rhapsody, Rockband, Skype, Sling, UStream, VCast Music, and VCast Videos. Then there’s a Blockbuster app, Adobe Reader, HTC items by the names of FM Radio, DLNA, and Greader (of which we’d love some more info on, to be sure.) Most of these are the demos, of course, and require you to purchase the full version for full functionality.
Also inside you’ll find a file by the name of Slate.apk, a version of Slacker Radio, Skinpicker.apk, a bunch of live wallpapers, some boot animations, and a normal HTC keyboard. Take a peek over at the XDA Forum post started by rugbydroid, or move on back to the source of the leak at 911HTC, and download each of the three parts here: http://www.multiupload.com/P6BPE7NBX7 [1 of 3] Take a sweet peek and let us know what you find! | HTC Announces New COO, Matthew Costello Posted: 07 Jan 2011 05:42 PM PST About a week ago HTC confirmed the adding of Chief Operating Officer Matthew Costello. More than likely the only other place you’ve ever heard of this man is as the Vice President of Global Operations at Sony Ericsson. Exciting news for HTC! Costello will hold this post over in Taiwan, and will be in charge of manufacturing, sourcing, supply chains, customer service, and technology infrastructure.
This fellow will be reporting to Fred Liu, President of Engineering, Operations, and Sales at the same HTC site. Take a peek below at the full press release: ) |
| Android Cooler for Google Flavored Drink Containment Posted: 07 Jan 2011 05:33 PM PST So there’s this guy named DaCavy75, and he has a notion. His amazing notion idea is to use his sweet industrial design skills (and craftsman skills, not to mention it, ) to create his very own gigantic Android. It’s the size of a big kid! And not only that, it’s a cooler. You can fill this up with beers. You can fill this up with caffeinated beverages for late-night programming. You can fill this up with cats!
The creator of this project also notes that this project took about a month to make, is made of foams, wood, and plastics, and stands a total of four feet tall. It’s arms are 42 inches wide, and there’s no plans for mass producing it at this time – WHYYYYYY. I need to put it next to my R2-D2 cooler – an object every comic book sci-fi fanboy should also own. Check out the video and make one yourself! [Via DaCavy75] ) |
| LG G-Slate Appears in FCC Filing Posted: 07 Jan 2011 05:28 PM PST Take a peek first at the original release announcement (from CES 2011) for the LG G-Slate which’ll be carried by T-Mobile: video included. Then, check it out, this fabulous new tablet has popped up at the FCC in a patent application with the traditional super-stripped drawings with no room for mistake. This slate will be running on T-Mobile’s AWS frequency and will be working with Android 3.0 Honeycomb – the tablet OS!
Usually these sort of filings lend themselves toward a quick release, so get super pumped up and also watch the video here below. Model NO: LG-V909, FCC ID: BEJV909, Made in Korea. [Via FCC] ) |
| Lookout Mobile Security Analyzes that Super Evil Geinimi Trojan Posted: 07 Jan 2011 03:03 PM PST Oh that crappy ol’ Geinimi Trojan making its way around the Android world has been analyzed those superheroes of mobile security: Lookout (or lookout, with the lower-case L if you please.) Making a big bad name for themselves since their inception, this is definitely a power-play on the part of those that plant the nice green leaf at the upper-left of your Android screen. They’ve taken the time to take apart the trojan for your pleasure and so that you might be smart when it comes to avoiding or, god forbid, dealing with it.
They list the capabilities of the trojan which include the ability to: Read and collect SMS messages, Send and delete selected SMS messages, Pull all contact information and send it to a remote server (number, name, the time they were last contacted,) Place a phone call, Silently download files, and Launch a web browser with a specific URL. Harsh! Wait. What’s it actually do then? That, believe it or not, is a detail still unknown. Is this something to be frightened of? Sure, why not? Would you like to know more? Of course! Take a look at the Geinimi_Trojan_Teardown.pdf provided by the security group. Also head over to the breakdown post at their official Lookout Blog, and leave comments below if you’ve experienced the evil. High five to Lookout too, as their analysis continues. [Via Lookout] ) |
| Amazing Preview of CyanogenMod 7 Posted: 07 Jan 2011 01:57 PM PST As you can see in the YouTube video posted by one of Cyanogen’s staff, Android 2.3 Gingerbread is clearly running smoothly on T-Mobile’s myTouch 4G. By upgrading you will even get that sweet looking Gingerbread effect when you put your phone into sleep mode.
Unlike the Alpha version, near the end of this video you will see a list of all the great Cyanogen effects that are normally built-in to every ROM released. A new setting available allows you to control if you want that screen on/screen off animation along with a few other features; screenshots of the video below. [Via H-Online] ) |
