Motorola and AT&T launch Atrix 4G Superphone

Posted: 05 Jan 2011 10:56 AM PST

AT&T CEO Ralph de la Vega and Motorola CEO Dr Sanjay Jha kicked off the 2011 AT&T Dev Summit by announcing the carrier’s first 4G smartphone, the NVIDIA-powered Atrix 4G. Don’t call it a smartphone, at least not around here – NVIDIA is talking about the new wave of superphones powered by Tegra 2, and rightly so. Packing a dual-core 1GHz processor and a full gigabyte of RAM, Atrix is part phone, part laptop, part home entertainment hub. Or at least it looked that way onstage …

The phone itself is an Android powered device capable of video capture and playback, with a big multitouch display and a 1,930 mAh battery powering the system. But there’s more in the way of two “accessories” that really should be called peripherals. First is the HD dock, an HDMI-based system for getting all of that hi-def content off of your Atrix 4G and onto your living room flat panel display. Cool stuff.

Next is the big play: The laptop dock. Atrix 4G will come with an app called “Webtop” and be compatible with a laptop-form factor device that’s basically a 13.1″ display and full-sized keyboard in a super thin, lightweight magnesium shell body. The laptop dock has a port for the phone itself, which powers the whole thing and provides processing power and network connectivity. Verrrry interesting … Dr. Jha had the machine onstage during the keynote just now, and I’m hoping to get some up-close time with as much as of the setup as possible later in the day.

Now wait, what’s this? AT&T’s talking about a Tegra 2 powered, Android Honeycomb tablet coming in Q2 of this year? Hmm … when’s that Motorola press conference start … later this afternoon? I’ll be there!

And oh, the catering at the AT&T Developers Summit is awesome so far. I’m not trying to be cute, either – after my first night in Vegas, getting up early and making it to a keynote was made so much easier by the awesome donut holes and Egg McMuffin-style sandwiches here at the Palms. Thanks, food sponsors!

Checking in From CES 2011 in Las Vegas

As the sun sets over Las Vegas, we’re still hard at work in the Convention Center, making sure everything will be ready when doors open to CES attendees on Thursday.  Check out this  ‘before’ photo of our booth – it’s so early, we still have plastic on the carpets.

Tomorrow, we’ll be kicking off CES activities with our press conference at noon, 1/5/2011. You can watch a video livestream, or stay tuned to the NVIDIA blog for a text liveblog of updates. We hope you’ll like all our announcements!

And, if you’re at the show, make sure you swing by our outdoor booth where we’ll be showcasing the Tesla and BMW cars featuring Tegra technology.  I had a chance to sneak a peak at the Tesla Model S, in person, and let’s just say it took my breath away. Snapped a couple of pics so you could see for yourselves (it’s even plugged in and charging!):

We’ll have more updates from the show over the course of the week. Make sure you stay tuned to the blog, Twitter and Facebook for the latest.

3DVisionLive.com Adds 3D Photo Browsing and Sharing

Posted: 03 Jan 2011 04:55 PM PST

As we continue to enhance the 3D Vision ecosystem, we're excited to announce that we now offer support for 3D photos on 3DVisionLive.com.  3DVisionLive is an online portal full of great 3D content you can enjoy via your 3D Vision-enabled PC.

Say Cheese!
With the new photo support for 3DVisionLive.com you can upload, share, rate, and most importantly, enjoy 3D photos over the internet using your PC’s web browser.  As a photo enthusiast myself, I'm sure you'll be as impressed as I was by all of the additional detail and realism that 3D photos offer.  Previously, the only way to experience 3D photos in a web browser was with anaglyph (red/blue) glasses. Far from ideal.

Now, 3D Vision users can view 3D content in full color at full resolution (using NVIDIA active-shutter 3D Vision glasses).  To enable this experience, we've teamed up with photo management company Phereo, to help develop the back-end architecture for 3D photo support.

Explore the new photo section and let us know what you think.  And don't forget to set up an account, to begin posting and sharing your own 3D images

Watch this!
While you're on 3DVisionLive.com check out some of the new 3D trailers and video clips we've added to the 3D Videos section.  In addition, we recently partnered up with Fordela, a San Francisco-based Enterprise Video Management company that provides a high-performance video delivery engine, to dramatically increase the amount of high-quality video content we can provide on 3DVisionLive.com, so stay tuned for more updates.

Getting started
In order to enjoy the content on 3DVisionLive.com, you'll need a 3D Vision ready system.  This includes upgrading the latest 266.35 beta release drivers that were posted on NVIDIA.com today:  http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us

If you need more information about 3D Vision system requirements, please visit our system requirements page here: www.3dvisionlive.com/content/3d-vision-live/3dvision-system-requirements.html

As always we look forward to your feedback and content submissions.  Feel free to reach out to us 3DVisionLive@nvidia.com.
