ZIIIRO is a Go

Posted: 03 Jan 2011 03:13 AM PST

There once was a watch name ZERO and after receiving a lot attention from our original feature, designer Robert Dabi decided to make it a reality as the ZIIIRO. Those of you who love his unique approach to telling time need to order one now. He’s even designed a metal mesh version if the original cuff isn’t your style. I want one, I want one bad. We’re incredibly proud of Robert’s success. Get it!

To-Do Reminders on the Table

Posted: 03 Jan 2011 02:31 AM PST

You have a computer, a smartphone, maybe even an iPad yet you still resort to post-its because you know short term memory is a total FAIL. The Post-It Schedule aims to put some order into those random reminders by day and ONLY mon-fri because everyone knows the weekends are full of activities no one should schedule or remember.

Envy the Envy 4G

Posted: 03 Jan 2011 02:18 AM PST

There was a time when ID “imagineers” would concoct fabulous concepts using new fangled tech that hadn’t been invented yet and I miss those days. Heaven forbid you do that now, you’d get your a** handed to you. I’m fond of the Envy 4G with its SUPER AMOLED screen and MasterMobile OS. So what if it looks like Windows Phone 7 and iOS 4 had a baby? It’s got a Carbon chip! That’s a CPU and GPU on one silicon. It’s the future people, have fun with it.

Dock Cut from Aluminum Block

Posted: 03 Jan 2011 02:10 AM PST

Although I appreciate Apple’s strict minimalist design with the MacBook Pro, having all the ports on the sides always irritated me. You can’t really hide them so I’m quite keen on this docking solution by Bostjian Majcen. It repeats all the ports but towards the back and now you have a nice large flat surface to do whatever you want with – but that isn’t very minimalist is it?

Case of the Smokey Tissue Box

Posted: 03 Jan 2011 02:06 AM PST

Back in school when we learned how to draw factories polluting the environment, I remember my art teacher teaching me this exact same design…angular roof building with black smoke billowing out of the stacks. The Smoke Tissue Case brings back those memories and I really appreciate the socio-message the design speaks of.

Floating City ala Haiti

Posted: 03 Jan 2011 12:05 AM PST

So when you think of Haiti, what do you think about? Probably some sort of… disaster area? Well how about this instead – Tangram 3DS collaborating with Boston Architect / Designer E Kevin Schopfer together creating a floating agricultural / light industrial city right off the shores of Haiti. What’s it called? Harvest City. Behold a 2 miles in diameter complex of tethered floating modules. Holy goodness gracious!

There are four zones in this project, communities interconnected by a linear canal system. Each of the four major canals are focused on building neighborhoods that consist of four story housing complexes. All along the outer perimeter are “one acre” crop circles with secondary feeder canals. The inside “harbor” is a city center with schools, administrative buildings, community activities, and a general marketplace. The whole entire complex floats and will be cable secured down to the sea bed.

The low profile of the entire system, low draft, dead weight capacity, and perimeter wave attenuators, hurricanes and typhoons will have little effect besides their collection of “much needed water harvesting.” Helpful! A breakwater will be in place to add to the city’s stability. AND AND AND since they know that that silly earthquake is still fresh in everyone’s minds, (especially those directly affected by it,) the project includes using all of the concrete rubble debris crushed down by the disaster as breakwater filler. Excellent!

Double Bowl All The Way

Posted: 03 Jan 2011 12:03 AM PST

Take a peek at this set of two steel fruit bowls that become one in the connecting. They slot together horizontally OR vertically. They can be connected in several ways that allow for lovely parties and all sorts of item placements. Stripe patterns and containers galore! These bowls have been manufactured by making the hemisphere using spun steel tech, then by creating slots using a three-dimensional laser cutting machine.

Helping Kids Realize Music

Posted: 03 Jan 2011 12:03 AM PST

So you’ve got a bunch of kids and you want to teach them all about music theory. What do you do? And not only that, what do you do if you want to keep materials and cost to minimum? This is a system by designer Loris Bottello that allows children to interact directly with the notes. Kids pull the sides of the object to set the length of the sounds right there in real time. This system is totally cool, working with kids to recognize both duration and pitch.
