| A Cellphone for Women and Men with Manbags Posted: 12 Jan 2011 01:43 AM PST I agree with designer Paz Brouk that women who tend to keep their cellphones in their purse find it a nightmare to retrieve before a call goes to voicemail. To overcome this little problem, she's designed the Gabler, a folding phone that can be hung over the edge of a purse. The phone folds in a diagonal line in the middle thanks to the flexible screen and flexible outer shell and includes all standard features found in modern-day phones. My only problem with having it all exposed is the invitation for would be kleptos. Instructed by Mr. Eyal Kramer and Mrs. Michal Chen Designer: Paz Brouk

| Posted: 12 Jan 2011 01:28 AM PST The early years of my life were filled with memories of plastic covered remote controls and couches. Yes, my parents were THOSE people. I was incredibly embarrassed by it but the reality is it wasn’t a cultural anomaly. People do it all over the world. Droog Design is a stool encased inside acrylic – an exaggerated homage to all those kids who grew up with plastic covered furniture. Designer: Ohad Basson

Twitnictable is an wood table that reads any tweet with the hashtag #IDtable via LEDs embedded on the surface. The table becomes an interactive pool of knowledge where tweeted questions engage students in an interactive discussion. Designers: Jeroen Coelen, Laurens Prins & Parizad Saremi

| Collapsable Table, Great Drawers Posted: 12 Jan 2011 12:03 AM PST Take a peek at this, it’s called KanapËtko, and it’s no less than a convertible desk on wheels. It’s made for artists, designers, and all manner of creative people. It can close all the way up to take up little space when not in use, and folds out to be a comfortable working place, equipped with “all the things that a designer might need. The desk has three drawers on the main side, a drawer for a printer or scanner on the back side. There’s a lighting floor, extendible cable, and stereo speaker to connect iPods or other kinds of music players. Great running action on the drawers with a Servo-Drive system that works with or without the handles – this electrical operating system was designed by DImitrov with BLUM in collaboration. Plus, Blumotion technology provides silent and effortless closing of the drawers. Wacky smooth. Designer: Krassi DImitrov

| Pretty Little Battery Bike of Wood Posted: 12 Jan 2011 12:03 AM PST Check the heck out this little bike that runs on batteries. Not only is it aesthetically MORE than pleasing, it’s made out of a bunch of wood (and a bit of metal and plastic of course) and runs on tiny batteries you can carry around with you in your pocket! This is the Biona and it’s designed by Jordi Poblet Pedrol, a fellow who wants to replace gasoline entirely in our urban vehicles. This project attempts to give the world a brand new perception of what an electric motorcycle is. This design uses traditional yet greener versions of parts used on classic motorcycles, “never forgetting new technologies and new tendencies.” Look like something you’d ride to futball practice? Pedrol leaves us with this thought:

| Posted: 12 Jan 2011 12:03 AM PST Wait, weights? Weights. For lifting and getting totally strong. That’s what this project is all about. This is the Flourish Activity Monitor, a set of weights for exercise experience for the elderly. Each of these weights mimics the growth of a living plant in order to provide positive visual feedback for the person using the weights. The more these weights are used, the more they grow. By using electroactive polymers (artificial muscles,) and fiber-optic lighting, the weights “grow” and turn vibrant, healthy green shades of green. Designer Brad Mitchell notes that “By utilizing the elderly’s instinctive ability to nurture, they will have an unconscious urge to take-care of their hand-weights, and in turn, take-care of themselves.” Designer: Brad Mitchell
