Not For Insectophobes

Posted: 03 Mar 2011 08:15 AM PST

While visiting a natural history museum, designer Jingfeng Fang got inspired when admiring a piece of wood that had been devoured by worms. For this five drawer set  he used a drill to create a dynamic pattern imitating bug bites. I’m  not usually for something made to look “old”  or weathered  but this interesting and humorous design evokes the imagination of a past event with distinctive storytelling.

Rocker Stool

Posted: 03 Mar 2011 07:45 AM PST

The Rocker Stool by Hamish Tennent was designed to invoke a sense of play into it’s environment. The single slip cast ceramic exterior and cork cushion make for an incredibly simple and fun shape. The inside is filled with black sand to add stability. Rocker Stool was designed to catch the viewer’s attention by shifting in the direction the last seated person leaned before standing, leaving the next seater to ponder where the previous seater had ventured.

Open Sesame!

Owning a personal refrigerator at work is not a new thing, and Particulate Food Fridge fits into that lifestyle perfectly. Only thing different is the way it looks; seems more like a lunchbox than a mini fridge. Functionally, it has these compartments that come up, grab your offering and store each according to the food groups. Check out the way the mouth of the fridge opens up; ready to devour its next meal!

Very Green Oil

Posted: 03 Mar 2011 07:25 AM PST

The very muck that invades our pond and swimming pool is a goldmine! Actually, make that an oil well. I'm talking about algae and the potential to extract bio-oil from them. Green Transformer is a solar powered floating device that combines algae with a chemical additive and derives bio-oil on the spot. The consequent oil is stored in a separate chamber till someone comes and collects it all. I love the idea of making oil in my backyard!

Gone With The Wind

Have you ever opened a window and said to yourself, “damn Gina, it’s windy.” Harness that energy with the AERO E. Energy is converted from wind to electricity and transferred wirelessly through induction. Place your cellphone on the charing pad and be the envy of your tree hugging neighbors! The accompanying app allows you to connect to your turbine and track wind patterns and charge times too.

Animorfia

Posted: 03 Mar 2011 12:01 AM PST

Did you ever see the scene in Beetlejuice with those walking, crawling, creepy chairs? They were undeniably awesome. Well these pieces won’t follow you around trying to catch you, but they are the next best thing. Though inanimate and lifeless, the Animorfia collection by Toot Chen expresses the exact opposite by exploring the stretches of the imagination and drawing from the posture motions and natural interactions of animals. Awww, look at that cute family of wild side tables.
