DNA Stamper, Identities and Genism

Posted: 29 Apr 2011 08:55 AM PDT

The D.N.A Stamper offers the public the chance to contemplate the impact of granting someone access to their biological data. The aim of this project is to challenge them to think about how much they value their identity. Who should have access to this information? It simulates extracting a sample of the user’s D.N.A. and uses this to stamp a consent form, to verify the user’s identity and offer tissue for hypothetical testing. The owner of the sample will have to fill in the consent form expressing how much of the information in the D.N.A. the holder will be privy to.

Designer Jamie Thoms took inspiration from companies such as “23andMe” which processes peoples D.N.A. for a fee and films such as “GATTACA” which offer an extreme view of where we could end up if the use of the information contained in D.N.A. becomes public. If this service became a reality, would offering someone access to the information your D.N.A. holds, create a new level in social relationships or is this beginning of genism and discrimination?

Super Clean Surfaces

Posted: 29 Apr 2011 08:44 AM PDT

The effervescent Andrew Kim is back again with yet another brilliant concept. This time it's Warp, a cleaning system for your digital medias coupled with a system that hides wires and docks your iPhone. I simply love the clever attention to detail like the hidden USB ports in the underbelly of the dock. And not to miss the indents in the cleaner to reach the cracks and crevices of your keyboard and phone ports. Keep it up boy!

Strap-on Some Groove

Posted: 29 Apr 2011 08:44 AM PDT

The GROOVESTRAP is a T-shaped handy thang that hooks onto an external 2.5-inch external Hard Drive and converts it to a useful interim MP3 player. Kinda getting you back into the groove with your music on the go. It features a knob on both the sides of the T, to be used as controls for volume and track shifting. Totally digging its minimal style coupled with utilitarian approach.

You Can Lead a Bull to Water… Period.

Posted: 29 Apr 2011 01:15 AM PDT

I’ll be the first (maybe in the world) to admit that I don’t love car maker Lamborghini. Don’t get me wrong, I understand it’s appeal… duh, it’s the ultimate super-car. But I just want to see something new- something unrecognizable! Well, designer Mauro Lecchi felt the same way, and now we’re getting exactly what we wanted. Introducing the Lamborghini power-yacht. This 50 foot, carbon fiber beast sports all the speed and luxury you’d expect from a super-car maker. Did I mention the prototype is under construction?! MmmHmm… check it!Though it started as just a sketch, the prototype is in production and is rumored to be powered by either two 550hp V12 Motori Marini Lamborghini engines or two twin 950 hp Seatek turbodiesels. As for the interior, it will be styled by none other than Fenice Milano, famous for working their magic on the Rolls Royce Ghost.

Easy Step for Pregnancy Protection

Posted: 29 Apr 2011 12:36 AM PDT

Surprisingly, urine can be a very good indicator of your health, which is why women who are expecting usually have a urine analysis conducted routinely at checkups. The Pregnancy Control is a take-home urinalysis instrument that anyone can use. With a simple placement of the urine sample into the device, the user can monitor their body for dehydration, malnutrition, infection, and other unwanted conditions in a flash. The elegant exterior and simple controls make for a modest and friendly design sensitive to the needs of moms-to-be.

Traditional Process Meets Modern Design

Posted: 29 Apr 2011 12:01 AM PDT

The Cesky Klin glass plate is a great example that simple traditional production methods can yield unique and functional contemporary designs. Applying his family’s classical Czech glass molding techniques, designer Martin Zampach melts glass to a specially prepared mold to achieve a smooth glossy top and rough textured bottom. The resulting vessel is ideal for serving fruit, storing knickknacks, or as a unique decorative piece.
