Posted: 18 May 2011 08:57 AM PDT Ever been to the beach and picked up a conch and listened to the heavenly sounds of the ocean? The soothing rhythms have such a calming effect and it's probably this that inspired Apostol Tnokovski to design the Donax Headphones. Fashioned in matte colored plastic in combination with artificial leather, this concept looks smoking hot in black and white. What do you think? Designer: Apostol Tnokovski ---------- |
Posted: 18 May 2011 08:57 AM PDT The Life is a recycled paper-made water container designed for Milano Expo 2015. The idea is to dissuade people from using plastic bottles and use this one-day-use bottle instead. It's crafted from natural cotton and recycled paper layer and it doesn't use any chemical ink or adhesives that are tough to recycle. The handy green cord makes it easy for you to carry it along. Oh, and the proposal does include having water fountains around the expo area so that you can refill it several times during the day. Designer: Andrea Ponti ---------- |
Portable Burner with Removable Hotplates Posted: 18 May 2011 08:56 AM PDT Portable burners come in a range of designs powered by various sources but for the most part, they are still very basic and crude. The iMove your Hotplate system is a sleek burner with removable hotplates. The concept is designed for campers and small households but I don’t see why a larger version wouldn’t work in traditional setups. This would much easier to clean. Designer: Jeonju-si Move Your Hotplate is an 2011 iF concept design entry. ---------- |
Posted: 18 May 2011 08:52 AM PDT Sometimes a candid shot is better than a staged one. The Peepster, a USB flash based camera with a timed shutter, began life as a CP+B product accessory for VW's Routan and then became an all out spy cam under the Duh Technologies umbrella. With Peepster's small form factor and squid like appendages, he could be anywhere – whether that's behind a rearview mirror, a mug or in a box – waiting for the perfect shot. And like all things powerful, power can be corrupted — and with Peepster, it's up to you to use it wisely (though it's probably more fun not to). Posted: 18 May 2011 12:02 AM PDT Featured in the 2011 Michelin Challenge Design Showcase, the shapely design of the EALO developed as a result of the designer’s question as to what an ideal organisms might look and behave like had it evolved specifically for the urban jungle. This organically shaped concept features a bare skull-like body that will leave you wondering how it’s powered, but housed within each wheel is a reactive electric motor that allows each to operate independently much like a quadrupedal organism. The unique Fractal Tree Suspension of the wheels was designed to be a light, flexible and strong, evolved as structure of a branch. Every split part has oil pressure suspensions, so the overall shock is minimized The second split suspension makes soft reaction of the tire even without air inside The form of the body developed as a result of the exploration in to the strength and lightness of bone. The singular piece would be carved and spaces would be punched out to maximize structural rigidity. Designers: Sang-Jun Lee, Kyung-Kuk Kim & Seoung-Bin Lee ---------- |
Breaking Boundaries for the Blind Posted: 18 May 2011 12:02 AM PDT As someone who’s had a string of eye problems since childhood, I feel incredibly lucky to have my sight and have truly come to appreciate designs that benefit the visually impaired. The G-Navi is an interactive guide dog system that aims to break boundaries & improve the independence & mobility of the sightless. G-Navi combines GPS navigation & a hands-free voice control system as well as vibrating-calibration technology to steer the guide dog to any waypoint the user selects. The pup’s harness even features a solar panel for constant charging. Designer: Shawn Youndong Kim ---------- |
