Toys That’ll Make Them Meow and Woof! Posted: 26 May 2011 08:46 AM PDT Starting this month, AbsolutelyNew, Inc., a next generation consumer products company that develops the best ideas from independent inventors, is introducing four new pet toys into PetSmart stores. All four are designed to keep our feline and canine friends physically and mentally engaged, using interactive elements and natural encouragement. Two of the toys are for dogs and two are for cats. Below are descriptions of each. • Treat Launcher™ is a fun and stylish dog toy that propels kibble treats (small or large) into the air for your pooch to chase. It features a comfortable ergonomic handle, a transparent treat cover so you can see how many treats are remaining and a loop so you can affix a wrist strap or carabiner. In addition, it does not require batteries and is dishwasher safe. MSRP is $19.99. • Squeeze Bones™ is a sophisticated and durable treat-dispensing toy that will stimulate your dog's mind and mouth. When dogs bite on the pliable tubular portion, they expel treats to the rubbery spherical portion, where they are subsequently dispensed during play for the dog to consume. It features a transparent tubular section so treats are visible; natural rubber and heavy-duty PVC; dental grooves for oral hygiene; and a paste-treat chamber. Available in three different sizes (mini, midi, and max) and three color combinations. MSRP is $12.99-$17.99 (based on size). • Catnip Tip 'n Twirl™ is a wobbling cat toy that holds either live or dry catnip, and dangles tantalizing feathers from a flexible line connected to the top. It features a weighted base that keeps the toy upright during play; spiral open-air vanes that allow a live plant to grow through it; and a special ring that keeps soil inside of the container, even when tipped. MSRP is $19.99. • Roll Play™ is a multi-function treat-dispensing catnip toy. It features a sisalwrapped exterior, which cats like to claw; a plume of feathers, which provides visual simulation; a compartment that holds dried catnip and treats; and an opening that dispenses the treats as the cat plays with the toy. The product is available in two shapes (round and cone) and three colors (red, blue and green). MSRP is $12.99. Designer: AbsolutelyNew ---------- |
Posted: 26 May 2011 08:45 AM PDT Touch technology is more or less the best way to use a device, simply because it's the most natural and intuitive human behavior. Banking on this theory, the designers of Ecopad have come up with a concept Tablet PC that uses no external power source to charge it. Right below the display is the nano piezoelectricity film that harnesses every touch or press on the screen, as an energy source. Designers: Jun-se Kim, Yonggu Do & Eunha Seo ---------- |
Posted: 26 May 2011 08:44 AM PDT Those of you, who travel by cars, please move on to the next post, because this one is just for my friends who take the bus and trains like me! Overhead handles and rings, tell me about it! If god wanted us to be of the same height, he would have done so…..we don't need the transport department helping us out there. Press, Change Length is a concept that allows the user to adjust the length of the grip ring so that we can keep a comfortable posture while standing in a moving vehicle. Buses in my route need this so badly! Press, Change Length is a reddot design concept winning entry. Designers: Jia Shenghui, Zhou Hailun, Liu Zhen & Chen Jian ---------- |
The Electrolux Smoothie Bar is Open! Posted: 26 May 2011 08:43 AM PDT Want a sneak-peek into the appliance giant Electrolux's Head Quarters in Stockholm? Now is your chance; they are currently running the live streaming of the Smoothie Bar, an open viewing channel where twice a day they have cool people giving interviews and employees come and chill out, grab a smoothie or juice. The promo is for their Powermix Silent – the quietest blender ever. So to prove their point, the juice bar will be operational in the background, while the presenter asks Henrik Otto the importance of design. The Smoothie Bar is open May 23 to May 27, CET 9.00 – 17.00. Thursday 26/5 Friday 27/5 To participate or ask questions, tweet them with #smoothiebar or post them on Facebook wall here. ---------- |
Posted: 26 May 2011 12:01 AM PDT The monocoque body of designer Niklas Wagner’s Vespa concept combines the classic curves of the “twist & go” scooter with modern minimalism, creating a futuristic look and feel that also gives a nod to its origins. The instrument cluster has also been revamped in a recessed LED display but reflects the simplicity of the classic chrome and transparent plastic style on the original dash. Posted: 26 May 2011 12:01 AM PDT The Smile Stool is the result of a study on the declining Indonesian furniture industry, that in recent years has had incredible difficulty competing its handmade craftsmanship against China’s mass manufactured products. In addition to the price competition, the more than 3500 Indonesian companies often end up with huge amounts of excess material that often ends up as firewood. Using the waste in the construction & streamlining a simple assembly process, this sustainable design gives hope to the industry & provides a solution for the survival of the local craftsman. Ancient Puzzle Meets Modern Table Posted: 26 May 2011 12:01 AM PDT Inspired by Japanese puzzle games, this simple table solution, appropriately named JOIN, can be assembled in a matter of minutes (without any tools!) by linking its 3 oak legs into a combination devil’s knot. The untreated base supports a circular smoked glass top measuring 750mm in diameter and can be quickly disassembled for storage or shipment. A DIY flat-pack design that’s as easy as it is fun to put together. JOIN table travels as a part of the “Design Deutschland 2011″ exhibition – curated by the German Design Council – from the FuoriSalone in Milan to the ICFF in New York and finally to the Business of Design Week in Hong Kong. Tour dates: Designer: Ding 3000 ---------- |
