Single Cup Special

Posted: 30 May 2011 10:18 AM PDT

Oh boy, this Plug Cup is going to make me lazybones. Ever since I've laid my eyes on it, I have wanted this concept to come to life. It's perfect for this instant coffee and green tea glutton that I am. A simple 180° rotating 2-pin plug at the base of the cup hooks on to any power source; so imagine this hanging off the powerstrip where my computer plugs are hitched! A tight lid ensures no spills and a clamp lock keeps the cup upright at the base. The good thing is that the heating element detaches so that the cup can be cleaned easily. Coffee mix, tea, water bottle….all will sit right next to my printer!

Cup’o Lights

I have used disposable paper cups for my daughter's craft projects with some really funny outcomes, but this Brady-bunch of designers have given paper-craft a new lease of life. Cutting paper cups into half and then gluing them in a roof-tile pattern, they’ve created the enigmatic Rays lamp. I just hope they aren't made from fresh cups, sterilized-used-cups is the better route to take. What do you say?

Fire Extinguisher for Dummies

Posted: 30 May 2011 12:01 AM PDT

I’ve never had to use a fire extinguisher (knock on wood), & to be honest, I’m not sure I’d know exactly how to work the thing. Whether they’ll admit it or not, the truth is most people are like me & would need a sec to look over the instructions. Understanding that a split second can mean life or death, designer Markus Arnold developed  Xtinct, an easy to use extinguisher that signals the device’s operations awith LED lights &  features an extended hose for improved accuracy, both maximizing functionality & providing a more aesthetically appealing solution for home use.

Minimal Rigid Desk

The first product available in the L&Z line, The Sinus Trestle, is a simple and smooth design who’s interesting shape still sets it apart from ordinary table designs. Each side of the base is made of a single piece of tubular steel that is bent into its static shape, making for a robust and fairly lightweight design that will blend effortlessly into both modern and classic settings. Hit the jump to catch it in the making!

The bent steel pipe is round, 25 mm thick, and measures: H 72 x W 74 x D 36 cm. A pair of trestles weighs 9kg and can be loaded with up to 300 kg. The trestles are powder coated in the colors black, white, blood orange, or chrome-plated. Threads are worked into the pipe ends to attach height-adjustable feet. Support pads are located on top of the trestle's bearing points; these prevent the tabletop from slipping or scratching the trestles. If you want to screw the tabletop on permanently, there is a hole drilled underneath the support pads.
