| HTC Event Mentioned for June 27th, Puccini Tablet Suggested Posted: 21 Jun 2011 11:43 AM PDT We’re to understand, from several independent and anonymous sources that is, that there will be an event held on the 27th of June, 2011, in London which will play host to at least one new HTC device. This event will be preceded by another HTC event in Utretcht on the 23rd of June, 2011. These events will show, and I quote, “where design and advanced technology can lead.” This could of course mean anything, but we’re banking on a certain tablet which starts with a “P.”
A release of the tablet code-named Puccini would follow as we’ve got another tip coming through previously that says the Puccini would be mass-produced in June. As you may well know by now, this device is HTC’s first 10-inch tablet running in after their lovely HTC Flyer, a 7-inch tablet with a stylus. This new device would roll out with a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor if what we’re hearing is true, and it would be coming to America on AT&T eventually. This sort of announcement of an event before the official event invites go out is becoming rather standard as press continues to be which group can grab the most headlines. That said, the excitement that builds with each mention of a tablet or a handset does reach a peak at some point – unless of course it’s a dual-core LTE device like this tablet says it’ll be. Another example is the Droid Bionic, a handset which has been delayed several times already and is set to be released later this summer IF we’re lucky. What do you think, a 10-inch HTC tablet for you? Or will you be waiting for the quad-core wave that’ll be falling in by the end of the year? Also why do you think HTC decided to release a 7-inch tablet before their own 10-inch contribution to the pile? |
| Dolphin Browser HD Webzine Beta Released to Public, Oddities in Tow Posted: 21 Jun 2011 11:12 AM PDT So you’re one of those Dolphin people, yes? Dolphin is a mobile browser you can grab for your Android phone which affords you all sorts of customizations you can make as well as a lovely Green outline for all of your ever-loving Green Lantern fanboyism. That said, they’ve got a whole new Beta out there for those of you that like to get these customizations before they’re technically ready for the public.
What you’re going to get in this Dolphin Browser HD V6.0 Beta is a set of new features in a package completely separate from the current stable version of Dolphin Browser – convenient for you! This version features a whole new way to browse that Dolphin is calling Webzine. This very beta feature allows you to pluck columns from the internet trees and create your very own look at the internet in a “zine” sort of fashion, just like how a zine works, right? I doubt the folks at Dolphin had the punk rock institution in mind when they came up with this, so we’re going to go ahead and say they meant magazine instead of the shortened iteration.
This feature is amongst a tiny trove of additional features you may already know about, but if you don’t, you’ll be in for a basket of treats! Gesture browsing, bookmarking in whole new ways, mobile and desktop mode switching at a blink, and of course, tabbing. Get to that Webzine feature with a single click on the House icon and get to collecting! Go grab the application in the Android Market now! |
| PCMag goes Hands-On with the Huawei Glory – Inexpensive Gingerbread Superphone Posted: 21 Jun 2011 10:27 AM PDT This is one of those times when you should get excited about an oddity. You know good and well, if you’ve been following along diligently, that yours truly loves the oddness, and when that oddness comes out arms swinging with a 4-inch 854×480 pixel resolution display, 8-megapixel camera, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread in tow, it’s time to report. What this device is known as is the Huawei M886 aka Cricket Glory or Huawei Glory. From now on let’s just call it Glory. It’s got a 1.4-Ghz single-core processor and it’ll cost you under $300 pre-paid. Sound like the deal for you?
If you’ve been following along with Cricket and Huawei recently, you know they’ve already scored a massive hit with the Ascend earlier this year. This device has blown through the market like a cool breeze on its “Cheapest Android Phone on the Market” catchphrase, selling out of the MetroPCS stores like hotcakes. The latest update (or should I say limit) on that device has been the upgrade to Android 2.2 Froyo, and you know what that means – they need a Gingerbread device! Thusly they’ve brought forth this device, the Glory, a single core device as opposed to the dual-core revolution going on now in the market, but with Gingerbread, upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich when the time comes, and a bit of the ol’ affordability to boot! This device will be being released on Cricket this November (2011) and PCMag has had the opportunity to handle a pre-production model so that they might get an idea of the build and capabilities of the device pre pre pre production.
NOTE: Huawei has told Sascha Segan, our good pal at PCMag, that this device has a 1.4-GHz Qualcomm MSM8655T processor which they say is dual core. This is confusing because Qualcomm’s spec sheet for that processor says that it’s a single core design. What’s REALLY going on it unknown at this moment. What Sasha had to say was that this device is indeed the next step in a long line of glossy bar-style smartphones. The back has a unique layer of clear plastic over a white base which gives the device an oddly enticing look. The entire device, Sascha notes, is 9.7mm thick at its thickest, though feels larger because of its square edges. The entire device also is made of high quality plastic and some unknown brand of glass for the front. The TFT LCD is said to be unusually bright, there’s a giant 1900 mAh battery inside, and there is indeed a custom user interface, though a small bit of customization is fortunately all that’s going on.
This device has Wi-Fi capabilities, Bluetooth, GPS, the 8-megapixel camera on the back has autofocus and LED flash, inside you’ll find 2GB or memory along with some sort of memory card slot we can only assume is microSD. This device in its current state has EVDO Rev. B but will ship with Rev. A for Cricket in the USA, and there’s no HDMI output, but Huawei has mentioned to Sasha that they’re preparing some “surprising” media solutions that they weren’t ready to reveal quite yet. This all comes amid news that Huawei will be wanting to ship five MILLION smartphones in the USA this year at the same time as they release at least six new models to the market. This device, the Glory, is amongst those devices and is a pre-paid phone which will, at the same time, both keep its profile low and its sales high. Have a peek at some pics above and below! | HTC ChaCha Hardware Tweaks for AT&T Aren’t Really Tweaks at All Posted: 21 Jun 2011 08:42 AM PDT The image you see below has been pushed around these interwebs for a few hours now with many comments about tiny tweaks in hardware in tow. Truthfully though, if you take a look at the photos we’ve taken of the actual unit as it sits in England right this very moment, the promotional image you see to the right here is less like the real deal and more like an early iteration. On the other hand, the image you see to the left, aka the AT&T version coming out soon, a much more realistic image of the actual unit you shall see.
Below and above feel free to compare. Obviously we’ve got a device with different branding on it, but the square Facebook button has been rounded in both casis, the buttons line up perfectly, and the only change you’re going to see as far as metal and plastic goes is the coloring on the phone buttons. That said, you can still feel free to recognize the dates on the devices, that being February 15th on the original Euro vision of the device and July 17th for the AT&T version – draw you own conclusions from those, and see how, between you and me, this device’s lip actually appears to be closer to the original than this AT&T vision would have us believe. AND of course I’d be remiss and be lampooned in the comments if I didn’t mention that of course there will be hardware differences on the inside of this device because of the differences between Euro and American carriers – but those aren’t cosmetic of course, so we shall still file them under “invisible.”
You can also check out our man in England’s review of the Euro version of this device on SlashGear as well as our big HTC ChaCha portal here on Android Community. Then you may want to point your eyeballs back to a post that included a leaked AT&T roadmap as it included the ChaCha (codenamed lele) pegged as a second quarter release here in 2011. Everything is lining up! Also don’t forget about our other steamy Facebook dancer, the HTC Salsa. [via PocketNow] |
| Akvelon Performance management Toolkit is an Android benchmark suite Posted: 21 Jun 2011 08:25 AM PDT
The PMT Android test execution agent can be installed on any Android device in only a few seconds and needs no special provisions to run. The suite will run in the background on the device and doesn't interfere with the normal use of the tablet or mobile phone. The task scheduling server gives testers the ability to schedule recurring tests on devices. The tests include things like HTTP performance testing, throughput measurements, media streaming, and FTP bulk data transfers. The server is able to collect all test data and provides a reporting engine. The engine also allows the tests to be compared to those run in other groups or on different devices. The PMT sounds like an Android benchmarkers dream. |
| Metaps launches AppBonus for Android users Posted: 21 Jun 2011 08:04 AM PDT There are tons of apps on the market that will help you find other apps based on what you already have on your phone and the other apps you download. Most of the apps work pretty much the same. A new app finding application has landed called AppBonus from Metaps. This is different in that it will reward users with points that can be converted to cash money down the road.
The way the system works is that when you install AppBonus it will show you a list of the new apps for the day. Each of the recommended apps you download that are free or paid will get you points. The points vary with the app downloaded. Once you get enough points, they can be traded in for rewards. The rewards include goods and services. Specifically the app will offer users Amazon gift cards and cash back as I mentioned. The catch is that the user has to keep the app installed for at least 24 hours to get points. The app also has to be officially activated to get any points. [via Android Market] |
| Toshiba Thrive Tablet Delayed for Android 3.1 Honeycomb, Model Number Updated Posted: 20 Jun 2011 06:15 PM PDT We’ve been following wild and crazy tablet for what seems like forever. This is the tablet that at one point was being called the next Nexus T, aka the next hero Google device. This device was the United States version of Japan’s Toshiba Regza, both of these devices essentially one in the same save for the Japanese version’s silver back as opposed to the Thrive’s black. We’ve heard of major delays for this device as well as prices sitting right around $429 or so with a few snips up or down here and there today. Finally, only a week ago we were told there were going to be pre-orders for this tablet sooner than later. What have we learned today?
Today we’ve learned a whole throwdown of facts on this device including the most recent leak of device numbers finding their way to the public via Toshiba themselves. This leak includes the device switching from AT300/23C to the slightly more advanced AT300/24C, in Japan now being confirmed to be coming out with Android 3.1 Honeycomb where here in the states we’ve had the same confirmed by sources for some time now. The difference between here and Japan is the release schedule, that being specifically that the lower-numbered model may still go out to pre-ordered businesses who will actually be using the tablets for their business (as opposed to reselling them as a vendor.) Prices on this device include the 8GB model at $429, the 16GB at $479, and the 32GB at $579. Pre-ordering begins at Best Buy on June 13th while shipping isn’t likely to begin here in the USA until July 10th. This device is set to be carrying an NVIDIA Tegra 2 Dual-core processor, will support Wifi, Bluetooth, HDMI output, and will have SD card and full-sized USB slots for some excellent controller action. See our review of Android 3.1 Honeycomb for an idea of what you’ll be getting for the OS. Another fun fact for this device is that it’ll be amongst the oncoming wave of Honeycomb devices with Swype pre-installed. For a review of Swype for Honeycomb as it exists in Beta today, take a look at our full review of said app in all its glory. It’s glorious! [via SlashGear] |
| Simms Destroys Smartbench 2011 with Nexus S, Beats XOOM by almost 4x Posted: 20 Jun 2011 04:58 PM PDT Here’s the thing with benchmarks – and I said I’d never talk about how they’re inaccurate again, but here we are – they’re inaccurate. The fact that they can be fiddled with and bugs, (like the one our own Simms22, aka the head of the Android Community forums just found below), might lead some to believe that they’re useless. I say nay, and Simms22 says nay, us both on a united front of nayness like you’ve never heard before. That said, look at the destruction Simms22 has dug up with his magical Nexus S, the magic maker overclocked to heaven and back.
That’s right 10,082 in Smartbench2011. That’s absolutely insane. If you’ll take a look back at the post by the name of Nexus S Beats Out Dual-Core Devices for Top Spot in Performance Benchmarks you’ll see that with a combination of rooting, adding CyanogenMod 7 and running the Trinity kernel, tweaking and tweaking and tweaking results in a powerhouse of a device that takes benchmark tests and breaks their backs like Batman.
But should we do away with benchmarks? I say again nay! Am I in Horseville? Because I am surrounded by naysayers. Why, you say? Because until we find out that manufacturers are tweaking their hardware to be better in these benchmarks we’re using to look good in them specifically, each and every benchmark we’ve got displayed in reviews here on Android Community remains valid, because all of these results are straight out the box. Now let’s talk about the rest of these results Simms22 rustled up. Holy god look at these numbers, man, gigantic as all get-out. Simms22 has this device overclocked to 1.544GHz, that being a big momma in a single-core processor, beating the crap out of every dual-core processor on the market – does this mean the Nexus S is more powerful than these otherwise massively impressive competitors, or does it just mean that the tests are messed? In this case, It’s a bit of both. While previously we’ve seen the Nexus S and the LG G2x from T-Mobile racing neck and neck for the top spot in the benchmark race, Simms22 has today been told by the creator of one such benchmarking system, Smartbench 2011 (and 2010, by the by,) that his system certainly has bugs in it that need to be worked out. It was either that or suffer some major hits at the hands of those who would point out that there’s no possible way for a single-core to beat a dual-core device — unless of course you’re Simms22 and your device is the Nexus S, right?
See all the different devices we use benchmarks on by heading to our review portal and witness how deadly the Nexus S really, truly appears to be here. Nothing, I repeat NOTHING has gotten these scores in the past in our reviews. Simms22 broke the system! |
| Motorola Changes Teams, Adds an OMAP processor to the Droid 3 Posted: 20 Jun 2011 03:37 PM PDT Our good friend Brian King of AnandTech has been passed a tip which lead us all, collectively, holding hands, to a set of benchmarks that show the power of the upcoming newest DROID in the family, that being the DROID3 aka DROID 3 aka Droid 3. Let’s use this opportunity to be as clear as we can be with this – which one is it? Let’s all agree! Then let’s continue down the road with some specs that can be readily understood by these benchmark pages, that being the GLBenchmark 2.0 results pages showing off the first of several doozies: there’s no NVIDIA Tegra 2 here, this device will be running an OMAP 4430 processor.
The Motorola Milestone 3 aka XT883 was mentioned earlier today in a report we put up about an inside-Verizon look at MAP for the “new” XOOM model and the Droid 3. This report also points toward the idea that Verizon is not very far away from releasing this device in its American form. Of course you might also take note of the fact that the Milestone 3 was announced in China today on China Telecom, and of course the most important point for you Englanders is the fact that no version of this device will be coming to the UK at all.
What we’re looking at here is a qHD 960×540 display at 4-inches atop a full five-row QWERTY keyboard, surrounding Android 2.3.4, a whole possible 1 GB of LPDDR2, a tiny front-facing camera, an excellent 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, and all this connecting along CDMA2000 baseband for Verizon. And it looks like there’s no NVIDIA processor aboard. Why is that wild? Why, because Motorola has been packing nothing but NVIDIA processors for its dual-core devices from the start, the Tegra 2 dominating the Motorola lineup since the ATRIX launched earlier this year. Droid X2 is in that gang, the PHOTON 4G is along for the ride, the XOOM of course is in the party, and the delayed delayed and mythical Droid Bionic, all of them NVIDIA Tegra 2 devices at one point or another. Now that appears to be all over, homeboy, with the Droid 3 running a 1GHz OMAP 4430 SoC with PowerVR SGX 540
What you’re going to see in these benchmark results above and below is a device codenamed Solana, a name which if you didn’t know better would remind you of a mythical horse from a Lisa Frank poster. It also happens to be associated with the Droid 3 on the streets, from what we hear. These benchmarks show the Droid 3 to be one powerful mother, taking its predecessor Droid 2 unit and stomping it down into the dust with almost twice the FPS in both Egypt and PRO. And yes, this is one of those benchmarks where higher is better. These two sets of results are shown by AnandTech highlighting the important two devices, the results discovered today are in the gallery below.
In fact, in the Egypt results you’ll only see one result higher, that being the LG Optimus 3D, a device which we expect will be formally announced in NYC this week at a 3D conference the likes of which are sure to be very similar to what we saw earlier this year, again at a Texas Instruments presentation at World Mobile Congress 2011 in Barcelona. In PRO, results were slightly less dominating with what is indeed twice the FPS of the old Droid 2, but the Droid 3 doesn’t win out the whole list, instead ending up 5th in line below LG Optimus 2X, HTC EVO 3D, HTC Sensation, and LG Optimus 3D again. Optimus 3D is cleaning house! [via AnandTech] |
| Tony Hawk Pro Skater Review on Xperia PLAY Posted: 20 Jun 2011 02:38 PM PDT I bet you never thought the day would come – it was just TOO good to be true. The greatest game on Playstation now available on your Playstation Android phone. Turns out they’ve still not got the game prepared for the system, but we’ve got you covered – an emulator combination that cannot be beat and the original Tony Hawk Pro Skater working fully well with the Playstation hardware on your Xperia PLAY! Thusly this is a review of how well that emulated game works on the system. Does it add up to be the excellence of mobile Tony Hawk, or is it still a pipe dream for future X-gamers?
When I first heard word that a Playstation phone was in the works, my mind flew instantly in the direction of my very favorite Playstation game of all time: THPS, the original classic game, the game that changed the way we play sports video games (those of us that really really did not have any interest in sports video games, that is,) and kept the Playstation one an active system on the garage sale and rummage sale circuit for years to come!
Before I go into a rant about how this game is the only great Tony Hawk game and all other skateboarding games pale in comparison and no one should dare do anything but bow down in respect to it, I’ve got to mention that this is the only game I’ve still got for the original Playstation, all other games having been lost or sold or tossed in the trash long ago. Therefor having the game on this little handheld system has been a dream of yours truly for quite some time.
To get this game, I had to do the following, the following set of steps being the same set of steps that you’ll be able to follow to get the game (and many other games) for yourself: 1. Download RomFetcher: Playstation You’ll want to make sure you’ve got most / all of your resources dedicated to the emulator when you play the game or the music might go slow or skip, but the gameplay has been next to perfect for us every time we’ve played. Also you’ll want to know that if you play Tony Hawk anything like your humble narrator, using your index finger to grind will be a bit more difficult than you’re used to because the controls are down inside the pad rather than right up on top, while the screen is right above the triangle button instead of… you know… on your television. Challenges! Play the game, have a ton of fun, then head back to your ROMFetcher and get every other game you’ve ever dreamed of! Also note that we’ve got a series of Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY-specific Android game reviews hanging in the wings if you wanna peruse those as well. |
| ClockWorkMod Recovery and Root Ready for Unlocked Retail Galaxy Tab 10.1 Posted: 20 Jun 2011 02:32 PM PDT We reported at the end of last week that there were rumors of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1′s being sold with unlocked bootloaders. Now it appears those rumors are true, as a dev over at XDA has found a way to flash ClockWorkMod Recovery onto the tablets that have unlocked bootloaders.
ClockWorkMod has historically been one of the first steps towards more exciting hacks and tweaks for Android devices. Custom recoveries like ClockWorkMod allow users to easily flash custom ROMs and kernels. We’ve had CWM on the Google IO version for awhile now, and that’s how the developer in question, shep211, managed to flash CWM on the retail version. The developer’s current method flashes the stock IO recovery to the retail version first, then CWM over it. This process is, unfortunately, not the simplest method we’ve seen for getting a custom recovery onto a device. So if you were lucky enough to get an unlocked tablet, and know you’re way around the Windows’ Command Prompt, download it and give it a go. At this time, there isn’t too much to do with the recovery, other than the ever-useful Nandroid backup abilities. If you are a developer though, looking to work on the Galaxy Tab, then by all means, grab it and get to work. Furthermore, shep211 is still working on getting the recovery to locked devices, since he does not have one. If you have a tablet with its bootloader still locked, and are knowledgeable and willing enough to contribute, contact him in his thread on XDA and offer to help. [via XDA] |
| Google Lets IO Tab 10.1 Recipients Know 3.1 is Waiting Posted: 20 Jun 2011 01:52 PM PDT We reported over a week ago now, that Honeycomb 3.1 is available for the limited edition version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, given away at Google IO. Today Google sent an email to those lucky owners officially letting them know of the upgrade, as well as some instructions for the download. The 3.1 upgrade brings some nice updates to the tablet version of Android, so if you haven’t gotten the update yet for your IO Tab, check your inbox.
The Galaxy Tab may have just come out last week, but the lucky attendees of Google’s IO conference in May have been playing with their limited edition versions of the tablet since then. Since the retail version of Samsung’s new tablet launched with 3.1, it only made sense that the IO version would get it as well. The update brings some handy new features, chief among them re-sizable widgets, improved multi-tasking, and USB hosting. Among these exciting new toys, USB hosting requires a USB adapter for the Galaxy Tab, which uses a 30-pin adapter. Since USB hosting is fairly new, Google obviously wants developers coming up with exciting new ways to use it. As such, they’re offering IO attendees a discount on Samsung’s 30-pin to USB adapter with a discount code included in the email.
If you haven’t downloaded the update yet, then Google gives you the following instructions:
The update should preserve all of your files, but as always, its better to be safe than sorry. The other issue to note, is that the update does require you to re-root your tablet if you had already done so. Other than those two warnings, go ahead and set up that Samsung account and download the update. After using 3.1 for a week, the improved task switching is a god-send, and the re-sizable widgets makes popular widgets like GMail’s much more usable on the homescreen, and as soon as I can get my hands on that adapter I’ll let you know how USB hosting is too. |
| Acer Iconia Tab A100 7″ Honeycomb Tablet Spotted at Walmart, coming in at $349 Posted: 20 Jun 2011 01:12 PM PDT We’ve had some wild adventures with the bigger brother of this Android 7″ tablet, that slightly huger Android device by the name of Acer Iconia Tab A500, a 10″ Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet. But what about this little monster? What about the littler of the two Androids in arms? Will it never be released due to what Acer says is incompatibility with Honeycomb? Nay says Walmart, we’ll release it no matter what! We’ve got it on sale right this second, says they, and noone will stop us!
Truly Walmart is the knight of the Android distributors, it being home to such wonders as… well… I know the Walmart near my in-laws has absolutely no mobile section at all, with a pithy stack of iPad covers near a case with no iPads in it last I checked. But what is this? An Android tablet, one we’ve been waiting for, no less? Last we heard, this tablet was delayed until the second half of 2011 at the soonest, but now it appears that it’ll be released in time for Independence Day – hooray for fireworks! Now what have we got waiting for us? Hopefully something as impressive as the lovely A500, the device we reviewed in full a few months ago. Android 3.0, what they’re saying is a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution screen, 2MP forward-facing camera and 5MP back-facing camera, plus a cool 1GHz dual-core processor we can only assume MUST be the NVIDIA Tegra 2. Still no word of when this device will be released, but if this photo is to be trusted, SOON might be a good guess.
And why would someone want this device? Why, because it’d be the only 7″ tablet running a true version of Android 3.0 Honeycomb, that’s why. While other similar tablets are running their own versions of OS covers or simply outdated versions of Android, this Iconia Tab could be the winner of updates! Head on down to your local big blue and check if it’s the best day for you to make yourself part of the Honeycomb crew! [via Twitter] |
| Angry Birds Mine and Dine [Full Spoiler] Posted: 20 Jun 2011 12:53 PM PDT As you may have already heard, guessed, or found out for yourself via paying very close attention to the newest apps on the market list, the original Angry Birds has been updated with 15 new pig-ridden levels for your full enjoyment! This whole new scenario is set underground, where the pigs have taken it upon themselves to continue to hide away your bird eggs, seeking to tower themselves below some rather precariously hanging stalagtites – that’s the kind hanging from above! See below for a FULL SPOILER of this newest set of Angry action.
This update includes 15 levels but is host to 45 levels when it really comes down to it. This Mine and Dine update shows itself to have three screens at least of levels, only one single set of 15 available to you upon completion of the first Angry Birds set of levels, as always. This set of levels is set in a cave where the pigs have helmets on with flashlights, there’s wood and rock to be broken, and again, stalagtites hanging down from above. These hangers are the newest element you’ll be dealing with, you able to use them to your advantage by knocking a bird into them, they then falling directly downwards in a massively destructive display of mayhem. This plays out in a rather exciting way in several levels which feature bomb boxes basically inaccessible in any other reasonable way. You’ll also be collecting new lovely point givers like gems of all sorts, a lovely set of colors shall you be experiencing. This set of levels is of a slightly less intense nature than what we’ve experienced in recent updates on the RIO expansion of Angry Birds, this again showing the versatility of the ROVIO gang and their Angry developing madness. To have such a money-making game is to allow yourselves the time to create updates of such epic nature that people take the time to create guides just for them – or in our case, spoilers so you can get excited but learn how to win on your own. Get to it! The update is available to you in the Android Market today!
Bonus pics below! |
| EVO 4G Available for Free with 2 Year Contract Posted: 20 Jun 2011 12:48 PM PDT EVO 4G owners are getting an update today to fix many of the issues caused by the previous one. If you aren’t the proud owner of an EVO though, and are looking for a deal, you can grab it now from Amazon or Wirefly for just a penny, or free respectively on a new 2 year contract. It may not be cutting edge anymore, but when people scramble for a 2 year old iPhone for $49.99, this is a great deal.
The EVO 4G is one of the best selling Android phones of all time. It was the first Android device to bring the now commonplace, but then gigantic 4.3″ screen. It’s 1 GHz may not sound as impressive in light of the slick new dual cores we see today, but for free this is one of the best deals we’ve seen. We couldn’t blame you though if you wanted to hold out for the shiny new 3D version, but that will set you back $200 with a contract. Hardware-wise it may be outdated, but the EVO is now officially running the latest version of Android, and given its popularity, I’m sure Ice Cream Sandwich will find its way to the device one way or another when it is released late this year. |
