Shazam Updated in Market to Support Android 3.3 Honeycomb?

Posted: 04 Aug 2011 10:51 AM PDT

I love seeing things like this because we never know what to actually expect. This could just be a simple mistake and they meant Android 3.2 but then this could be an employee that knows something we don’t and simply shouldn’t have put that information on the market for the world. It appears Shazam has just updated their Android app and it will now support Android 3.3 but this is the first we’ve heard of it.

This newest update brought support for higher resolution screens such as the HTC Sensation, EVO 3D and others with a 540×960 qHD display but it doesn’t mention anything for tablets. I also tried to download this newest Shazam update to my Android 3.2 Xoom and it was incompatible, same goes for my 3.1 Galaxy Tab. That is why this was worth reporting because a simple 3.2 and 3.3 mix-up would be no biggie but it isn’t working on Android 3.2 tablets that I can see.

So are we possibly expecting an Android 3.3 update in the near future? We know 3.2 Honeycomb was just rolled out and brought support for smaller form factors and things of that nature but we haven’t heard any possibility of Android 3.3 Honeycomb. I would just assume that Shazam meant to say Android 3.2 but with the latest update working on none of my current Honeycomb tablets I’m thinking maybe something else is at play here.

While 3.3 sounds fun I’m just patiently waiting for Ice Cream Sandwich.

Sony S1 and S2 Leaked Screenshots Show 3.2 Honeycomb and UI Changes

Posted: 04 Aug 2011 10:13 AM PDT

A Sony support page was put up and then very quickly taken down but not before a few pictures got snapped of their new Sony S1 and S2 Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablets. Yup, first off it appears they will be running on the latest Android 3.2 Honeycomb as well as having some tweaks and changes to the user interface.

First off just like we mentioned the leaked screenshots show it will not come with 3.0 or 3.1 but in fact the latest Android 3.2 Honeycomb, they’ve made changes to the user interface sort of similar to Samsung, they have a new keyboard and more.

The stock keyboard has a Honeycomb look and feel but is closer to a thumb keyboard and has the number pad on display at the same time. I do like the layout and color differences for the new keyboard though.

Above you can see the new keyboard, custom widgets on the home screen, a new music player app with some fancy new features and a neat design layout and the app launcher drawer looks much different and they’ve added the white background. For more information on these tablets here is our Sony S1 & S2 Portal to see previous coverage, pictures, and videos. So who likes the changes Sony has made?

Today we have a fancy new application to show you DSLR fans. While this currently is still in beta and only works with Canon EOS DSLR cameras as well as a select few Android devices this list and compatibility will surely grow. The popular developer Chainfire tweeted today about his awesome new app and we think it looks awesome and has some serious potential.

This applications will give you full control of your Canon EOS DSLR from your phone or tablet through USB. From the video we will show you below it looks pretty awesome already so I can’t wait to try it out. He has added tons of features and more are coming soon. Make sure you read the full description in the market regarding the requirements as you need a special USB cable, your average USB laying around wont work. It also needs to be a USB Host Cable and the only devices currently listed as working are the Samsung Galaxy S II and the Motorola Xoom (with 3.1) but more should work or be coming soon.

Features include but are not limited to:

- Live View
- Auto Focus (tap Live View)
- Manual focus adjustments in Auto Focus mode
- Histogram
- Zoom control
- Grid display
- Bulb capture
- Continuous capture
- Extensive modification of settings

Note that available options depend on the mode you have your camera set to (M, Av, Tv, etc)

For even more details or to ask questions head over to the Chainfire DSLR controller XDA thread. You can also get the app available now in the Android Market.

AT&T Down in NYC, Says Up Soon

Posted: 04 Aug 2011 09:03 AM PDT

The fine folks at AT&T have stated that the problems many customers have been experiencing this morning (August 4th, 2011), indeed were on part of the network itself and that said problems would be repaired soon. Customers using the AT&T network have had voice service outages Thursday morning, says AT&T, because of a routine set of maintenance activities. Earlier in the day AT&T also sent out a statement that they were having trouble with their 3G voice network specifically in Long Island.

AT&T does indeed state that they have or will be soon fixing a problem which has caused voice disruption in three New York City boroughs: Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhatten, plus their cool neighbor Long Island again, earlier in the day. While the problem has been being fixed, customers have been moved down the scale to AT&T’s slightly less awesome 2G network. Meanwhile, those tapping away on their brand new HTC Status devices have been rather frustrated in that they cannot update their status in 5 seconds instead of 10, if you know what I mean.

For those of you thinking of switching to or staying on the AT&T network, we’ve got a couple of sweet reviews for Android devices coming out or already released for purchase there. First is the aforementioned HTC Status, aka the ChaCha, this being one of HTC’s Facebook phones with a dedicated physical Facebook button on the front facade. Next is the LG THRILL 4G, a device which will not only allow you the ability to capture 3D video and photos, but will show you their awesome 3D nature without the aid of 3D glasses.

Now let’s hope for some better connectedness in the 5 boroughs, shall we?

Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 hits Amazon UK for pre-order, ships August 12

Posted: 04 Aug 2011 05:10 AM PDT

Late last month a listing on the Samsung Developer Center landed and we thought that the listing might be for the Galaxy Tab 8.9 tablet. We aren't sure still if the listing was indeed the tablet we suspect. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 has now landed for pre-order on Amazon in the UK. The listing shows that the tablet packs a 3G modem inside and doesn’t offer the screen resolution so we can compare it to the specs for the device in the dev center listing.

The tablet is listed at a price of £605.34 with the 3G modem. The in stock date is claimed to be August 12. The tablet is being sold by ATELCO Computer AG and the listing is very light on specs. What we know is the screen is 8.9-inches obviously. It will be offered in pure white color.

The weight of the tablet is 465g and the width is 23.1cm with a depth of 0.9cm. I wish there were more hard specifications to check out. Whether or not the August 12 date is firm is unknown, there have been other dates rumored for the shipments to start. If you don't want to wait and like a larger 10.1-inch screen, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is now available in the UK.

TekTrak app helps you find your lost phone and protect your personal data

Posted: 04 Aug 2011 04:25 AM PDT

If you are anything like me, you might lose your smartphone quite a bit. I generally lose mine around the house and more often than not, it has slipped off the arm of the couch and between the cushions. Other times my wife has put a bunch of junk on top of it in an apparent attempt to drive me crazy. The TekTrak app will help you find your phone in your house or anywhere else if you lose it.

Using the app you can locate your smartphone using the aGPS tech on the device within a few minutes. You can find the devices last known location, which is a good thing if the phone is lost and the battery goes dead. The app can also make the phone ring remotely. You can also remotely lock or unlock the device and you can wipe the data if the phone has been stolen.

If you determine that your phone was stolen TekTrak will allow you to send a message to the phone and remotely turn on WiFi. WiFi helps give a more accurate location for the device. TekTrak also has a multilock feature that will prevent anyone from removing the app from the phone. The protection will cost you $4.99 yearly.

Skype updates Android app and adds more supported smartphones

Posted: 04 Aug 2011 03:44 AM PDT

Back in June Skype for Android gained the ability to make video calls. The catch was that only a few smartphones were supported in the initial launch. The supported smartphones include the Samsung Google Nexus S, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo, Sony Ericsson Xperia pro, and HTC Desire S. Skype has announced that the official Android app has now been updated.

There isn’t a lot of changes to the core app, mostly what we have here is an update to support a bunch of new smartphones. The current device list is now much longer than it was with the first iteration. The supported devices now include the Samsung Galaxy S II, Samsung Galaxy S, Samsung Droid Charge – Verizon, Samsung Galaxy Tab, HTC Desire (2.2), HTC Thunderbolt – Verizon, HTC Sensation, HTC Evo 4G, HTC Evo 3D, HTC Incredible S, HTC Desire HD, HTC Flyer, LG Revolution – Verizon (2.2), Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY, Sony Ericsson Xperia ray, Sony Ericsson Xperia mini pro, and the Acer A5.

The app was updated today to support the new smartphones. If your smartphone is still not on the supported list all you can do is wait for the next update and hope you are supported then. Skype does note that on 2.2 and higher devices not listed in the supported section may be able to activate video calling in Skype settings. The video quality may not be as good as an officially supported device though.

Pandigital Planet, Nova and Star budget tablet trio revealed

Posted: 03 Aug 2011 11:57 PM PDT

Pandigital has outed a trio of new Android tablets, as well as the promise of a high-end model by the end of the quarter. The Pandigital Planet, Nova and Star will all hit shelves this month, each toting a 7-inch touchscreen – 800 x 480 on the Star; 800 x 600 on the Planet and Nova), WiFi, Barnes & Noble’s eBookstore app preloaded, and both WiFi and HDMI connectivity.

Unfortunately, as the $159 starting price might suggest, we’re not looking at Honeycomb here. Instead, the Planet and Star each run Android 2.2 Froyo, while the Nova steps up to 2.3 Gingerbread. Pandigital tells us that future firmware updates are in the pipeline, but it’s unclear whether that will ever include a step up to Google’s tablet-centric Android branch.

Both the Planet and Star have 2GB of integrated memory, while the Nova doubles that to 4GB; there’s a microSD card slot and USB On-The-Go support, though with a mini USB port you’ll need an adapter if you want to plug in a regular thumb-drive or peripherals. Pandigital has struck a deal with GetJar to include the software download store on all three models – there’s no official Android Market access, at least until the hacks arrive – and there are apps for email, browser, the camera (rear on all models; front-facing on the Star) for stills and video and the OfficeSuite Viewer for opening documents.

The Pandigital Planet (R70A200) is on sale today for $189, while the Pandigital Nova (R70F400/ R70F452) will arrive this week for $189. The Pandigital Star (R70B200) will follow on in mid-August for $159. Meanwhile, Pandigital is promising a “flagship” tablet for September, though details won’t be released until next month.

Leaked Verizon Roadmap Reveals All, HTC Vigor, Bionic, Samsung Stratosphere and More

Posted: 03 Aug 2011 05:31 PM PDT

You guys might want to sit down if you’re reading this, or at least go grab a towel. Apparently someone leaked a HUGE list of all the goodies and upcoming products for Verizon and most likely a few heads will be rolling for this one. This includes some serious details such as the HTC Thunderbolt replacement, a new Galaxy Tab, the Samsung Stratosphere, other 2.3 devices and more. We even get the release/launch dates too, awesome!

This would take a while to explain and detail so I’ll just let you guys check it out while you drool for a few minutes over the possibilities and upcoming toys. I’m going to only list the Android stuff as well obviously and we will start with the Samsung Stratosphere we covered this week.

The Samsung Stratosphere according to the document is a 4G LTE Android 2.3 device coming in September, that is possibly the Galaxy S II but we wont jump to conclusions but I want one immediately.

Next is the Droid Bionic and I almost don’t want to even mention it because we have beat this story with a stick for months and months. It is everything we already knew and appears to be coming the same day as the Stratosphere, and that is September 8th.

Then we have the Motorola Xoom listed around the same time-frame getting not only the update to 4G LTE but the document also suggests they will be announcing a new 4G tablet. I don’t think I’d enjoy my update if the same day I leaned something better was coming soon, but that is just me.

Rolling down the list we have the Samsung Illusion (aka the Samsung Viper) and it will be a 3G Android 2.3 device coming a few weeks later on the 29th of September. We don’t know much about that name but will be looking into it shortly.

Also is the HTC Bliss and that is the mid-range girl focuses Android phone we have seen a few times but don’t know much about. Next!

This next bad boy is probably what I’m most excited to see and that is the HTC Vigor. This is showing it as the powerhouse that will replace the HTC Thunderbolt. From what we have seen in the leaked benchmark it will be stupid powerful and totally awesome. A 720p HD display, Qualcomm 1.5 Ghz dual-core processor, 4G LTE and need I say more? That is listed as coming October 5th, but as always these dates can and do change often.

To wrap things up we have an LG Revolution 2 listed that will be taking the crown from the original 4G Revolution. We don’t know much about this phone but it should hopefully be a dual-core device like others we are seeing as of late, especially if it plans to replace the original. There is also talk about a Samsung Galaxy Tab PS coming in November, this could be either a new Galaxy Tab altogether or the 8.9″ variety packing 4G LTE.

There it is ladies and gentleman! As always these dates are most likely going to change or be tweaked as things move forward. Watching devices like the Bionic be delayed time and time again we never truly know what to expect but all these details do get us excited here at Android Community. I want the Stratosphere and the HTC Vigor — like tomorrow, but will have to wait a few more months. I have said enough so feel free to look over the photo above and please tell us what you think or feel in the comment section below.

HTC Wildfire S Available Today at T-Mobile

Posted: 03 Aug 2011 04:54 PM PDT

The team at HTC have been releasing a torrent of amazing and fantastic devices over the past few months, including but not limited to the myTouch 4G Slide, Sensation, Flyer (tablet), and Facebook phones – ChaCha (aka Status on AT&T) and Salsa. The newest item in this vast collection originally announced back at Mobile World Congress 2011 is the HTC Wildfire S, a teeny tiny device that’s available at T-Mobile today!

This smallest of HTC devices is available for $79.99 after a single $50 mail-in rebate and tied to a 2-year agreement with T-Mobile. This device is running Android 2.3 Gingerbread out of the box, has Sense 2.1, and is in general one cute little number. We just happen to have a full hands-on and unboxing post for you to look at from earlier today, with a full review of the device coming at you VERY soon. This device is available in a nice white finish from T-Mobile in-store with a special black color finish available through Walmart, Sam’s Club, and from T-Mobile’s online store.

This device fits in the palm of your hand, runs on a 600Mhz Qualcomm S1 single-core processor, and has a cool 3.2-inch 320×480 pixel TFT LCD display. It’s certainly not the most high-definition device in the bunch, but compared to, say, the Samsung Dart, it’s utterly fantastic. Have a look at the full specs in the Device.AC listing below, check out the hands-on from earlier today, and get ready for the sweet review coming SOON!

HTC Update: Bootloaders Will Be Unlocked Using a Web-Based Tool

Posted: 03 Aug 2011 04:16 PM PDT

Today HTC has updated us yet again regarding the situation with the unlocking of bootloaders. It has been nearly a month since they told us the update would be coming in August and September and now they have more details for us regarding how and when this will all go down.

I wont get into all the details of the update and rather just tell you the information that counts, here is the official statement over on Facebook.

- HTC Devices will continue to ship with locked bootloaders here on out.
- Users will be able to unlock “if they want” using a new web-based tool.
- Users will be required to have the Android SDK installed and use the web-based tool to unlock their device
- We will have to give HTC our email address, and agree to terms and conditions that what we are doing will void our warranty.
- The HTC Sensation Global will go first, then T-Mobile version, followed by the EVO 3D.

I actually really like this as the entire process sounds simple and easy to do. We already know that unlocking/rooting our devices will cause us to lose our warranty and that is nothing new. This will basically be the same way the Nexus One and Motorola Xoom shipped, they were locked but were extremely simple to unlock where the user could unlock them with a simple command should they choose to.

This is a win-win because the average user doesn’t care about an unlocked bootloader, while many many more advanced users and developers do. We will now have a simple and easy solution come late August early September. Everyone clap for HTC and hope Motorola one day (eventually maybe) follows suit.

Oh, in case you don’t want to wait you can S-OFF and root your EVO 3D and Sensation right now just by following these simple steps.

HTC Thunderbolt Android 2.3 Gingerbread Update Delayed Again?

Posted: 03 Aug 2011 02:54 PM PDT

While we have seen a few updates for the Thunderbolt users are still patiently waiting for Android 2.3 Gingerbread to hit the Verizon 4G LTE device. We have been hearing about the update for a while but it appears they are still saying it is on track for Q3 2011, so within the next few months.

We originally heard the update would be coming Q2 but they missed that deadline and didn’t give much else regarding when to expect it, but now it appears a few of the PR reps are now again saying it will be coming “sometime in Q3″, but we still don’t know for sure and since we are in Q3 right now what does this mean? Its coming in the next few weeks, or maybe not for another 2 months. We will have to wait and see, again.

While we are chatting about the HTC Thunderbolt here is our hands-on and unbox video. Our man Chris Burns loves the Thunderbolt and has used it extensively over the past few months since it was launched. If you want to see his thoughts and opinion after using it for 3 months here is that post.

Gingerbread for the Thunderbolt was originally leaked back in May and had a few issues, but with devices like the EVO 4G and others already running Android 2.3 Gingerbread I guess we are just all wondering why the Thunderbolt is taking so long. This isn’t anything official but at least we now know its still in line to hit the streets this quarter.

Pogoplug Photo, Music, and Video Streaming App for Android Updated

Posted: 03 Aug 2011 02:36 PM PDT

Recently the Pogoplus app for Android received a large update that includes many new features and bug fixes. For those that don’t know much about Pogoplus it’s like Dropbox, or Google Music bundled into one. You can stream and share picture, movies, music and documents to everywhere from anywhere you’d like.

they’ve just released the latest update and its available in the Android Market by clicking here. Local streaming of ALL of your data is absolutely free but to be able to stream on a mobile device or remotely stream from other locations will require the premium version much like other similar cloud offerings. Pogoplus is only a ONE time fee of $29 dollars so over the long run it’s actually a really good deal.

While the images provided neatly show the fancy new updated application running on the LG Revolution just ignore the fact they are showing it running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread as the Revolution only has 2.2 but at least it looks good right.

Here’s what’s new for Pogoplug on Android:

Pogoplug OneView™ lets you see all of your music, pictures, and movies across as many Pogoplug enabled PC’s or external hard drives as you want. Your files are all organized and deduplicated to give you one easy to use library for accessing, streaming, and sharing.
Gallery: View all of your pictures in a single gallery – *Exclusive to our Android app – navigate straight through your pictures with a flick using the new Filmstrip interface
Jukebox: Stream your entire music library right to your mobile phone. No worrying about storage limits – whether you have 2 songs or 20,000 – all of them will be available for streaming right on your Android phone.
Cinema: Stream high quality movies, optimized for your Android phone straight from your PC or external hard drive

Pogoplus is actually extremely simple and easy to navigate, I’ve been using it the past few days and really enjoy it so far. If you haven’t used this in the past feel free to get the application from the Android Market, then download the PC or Mac software here so you can get to streaming all that content.

I really like the fact that the software for PC and Mac is available for installation on as many computers as you’d like. Home PC, Laptop, parents or girlfriends house and wherever else you need your information and data. Being only a one time fee of $29 makes this a decent offering and I suggest you give the free version a try for a few days and see how you like it. Let us know what you think in the comment section below.

Google Speaks Out against Patent Attacks on Android

Posted: 03 Aug 2011 02:33 PM PDT

Google has decided to speak out against the slew of lawsuits, mostly in regards to patents, that have been slung at Android recently. Denouncing the attacks as a “hostile organized campaign” by the likes of Microsoft, Oracle, Apple, and others. The post, from Google’s Chief Legal Officer, says that Google’s is looking into a number of ways to defend against these legal attacks, which Google says are being used in lieu of innovation as a means of competing with Android.

If you haven’t heard, lately anyone and everyone related to Android seems to be getting their pants sued off by anyone who’s owned a tech patent. Oracle’s ongoing legal struggle with Google over Android has been dragging on for months, even with the recent revelation of Sun’s CEO’s initial support of Android. Microsoft has been forcing Android phone manufacturer’s to pay fees for each phone sold. Meanwhile Apple is still trying to place injunctions to ban the sales of several of Samsung’s Android devices, claiming they are too similar to Apple’s own iOS devices.

Clearly all of these lawsuits, are a bit of a pain for Android. As free, open-source software stack, it is an issue that manufacturers are being forced to pay companies like Microsoft and Apple to sell phones that have software Google’s giving them for free. This, along with lawsuits like Apple’s, Google claims, are attempts to shut Android down, rather than compete with new technology and better products.

Google points that these efforts are uniting, claiming that Apple, Microsoft and others united recently to acquire Novell and Nortel’s patents. They also claim that as a result, patent values are being inflated, due to how strong of a weapon they’ve become in these legal wars.

Patents were created for an important purpose. They allow innovators to receive some reward for their work, which may otherwise be stolen by a larger company with the resources necessary to better implement their work. Today though we’ve seen some debatable patents. My favorite example has always been the patent on unlocking a touch screen phone by sliding an unlock bar across it, a good idea, but enough for Apple to sue other smartphone OS creators?

So where will we go from here? Google is a big corporation, just like Microsoft, Apple, and the rest. The post itself does little to hide that Google’s looking out for itself and Android with this protest against legal battles, but they make some good points. Patents were made to protect small companies and individuals, but now they’re being used as weapons by larger companies.

Will all this come to some sort of head, or will the status quo carry on with patents simply being a parasitic in the system raising costs for everyone involved, and potentially crippling the very groups it was meant to protect? Google sure seems to hope its the first, are they right?

Toshiba Thrive Update Now Available to Fix Sleep and Wake Issues

Posted: 03 Aug 2011 02:00 PM PDT

The Toshiba Thrive is that full figured Android 3.1 Honeycomb tablet that was recently launched. Sadly some users were plagued with sleep and wake issues where the device was not turning on. Toshiba has issued an update for this issue and it is now available today for those that need it.

Toshiba quickly acknowledged the problem and made a statement saying an update would be coming shortly. It is now available today for download right on your device. In case you’ve missed it we recently were able to get the Toshiba Thrive in for a full review so clickity clack that link for full details.

Here is the official word from Toshiba:

A limited number of Thrive Tablet users have experienced a Resume issue when in Sleep mode. Toshiba has released a software update to resolve this issue, improving the sleep-and-resume performance, as well as enhancing the multimedia playback capabilities of the device. The software update can be downloaded through the Toshiba Service Station utility app found on the Thrive Tablet.

Google+ Android App Update Improves Huddles and Notifications

Posted: 03 Aug 2011 01:12 PM PDT

Google+’s Android app brings all the joys of Google’s new social network to a sleek looking smartphone interface. It hasn’t been free of hitches though, especially in regards to notification issues. Google’s got an update in the Android Market which makes notifications better all around, as well as bringing improvements to the often under-appreciated huddles feature.

Google’s update brings nothing earth shattering, but quite a few fixes and small, but cool features. It isn’t as exciting, but lets start by breaking down the fixes. Notifications have been improved, with the added bonus of notifications that people have added you being combined to prevent a flood of repetitive notifications as the G+ grows. Generic “improvements” have also been made to accuracy for the “Nearby” stream, and autocomplete for adding people to Huddles.

Huddles have also seen several new features. First it is now possible to start a private 1-on-1 huddle with a member of a group huddle by clicking their name. These 1-on-1 huddles can now be “hidden” (deleted from your list), akin to leaving a group huddle. Lastly links are now clickable in huddles, a much needed feature that allows for better sharing and plan making.

Google’s changelog on the Market also lists the ability to reshare from your stream to individuals as well as a fix for a glitch which caused the stream to reset to the top whenever the screen rotates. More goodies for sure. Check the Market for the update now, or if you haven’t tried it yet, give it a shot. Happy +’ing!

HTC Wildfire S Hands-On and Unboxing

Posted: 03 Aug 2011 12:57 PM PDT

We’ve got a treat for you here, one of the tiniest little treats we’ve ever had the pleasure of checking out, one made for small-hands-having ladies and gentlemen across the world – an HTC device made for those who love the coolness of HTC’s Sense UI without the giant nature of the top-tier devices we early adopters love so very much. This device comes with a 3.2-inch display, a 5-megapixel camera on the back, and it weighs in at a mere 3.7 ounces (105 grams.) Will this little superstar capture our hearts above the rest of the mid-tier competition?

As you may already know, this device was announced with the rest of the HTC devices in one giant swoop earlier this year at Mobile World Congress (that being February 15, 2011.) It’s the smallest of the bunch, of course, and is made to compete directly with such devices as the LG Optimus U and V plus the Samsung Exhibit 4G, Gravity Smart, and the Dart – and don’t forget the Pantech Crossover, of course. But what none of these competitors have is something only HTC can offer: Sense. HTC Sense is what amounts to one of the hottest user interfaces on the Android market, and by the looks of it, HTC knows it.

With the Wildfire S you’re going to get a mid-range device with a top-range display and interface. While the plastic used to make the back casing of the handset isn’t as soft or as nice to hold as devices like, say, the HTC Sensation, it’s still well molded and in that it comes off all in one piece to reveal a simple spot for battery, SIM card, and microSD (2GB out of the box upgradable to 32GB), this device seems like a quick winner. We’re going to put this device through some hoops then get back to you on what the final verdict is.

Meanwhile here’s a question for you: what questions about the device would you like answered? Anything in particular you’d like to know?

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with 4G LTE Hands-on and Unboxing [Verizon]

Posted: 03 Aug 2011 12:53 PM PDT

Today I have the king of all tablets at the moment and that is the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G LTE from Verizon Wireless. Yes not only is this device super thin but it also manages to pack in 4G LTE speeds next to the NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core CPU powering it. Basically the best of both worlds when it comes to performance. I’ve made a small video and took some super amazing photos for you all to enjoy so head down below for the rest.

As we all know the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is no Motorola Xoom. It’s thin, lightweight, and just gorgeous with that brilliant 10.1″ 1280×800 resolution display. Like mentioned above its rocking the all powerful NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core CPU the entire market seems to be loving, as well as 1GB RAM, 32GB internal storage and a Micro SIM slot — yes Micro SIM. That is what powers the 4G LTE speeds. We have seen it before but how about some pictures?

Wave to my Android friends as they are excited about this particular device just like I am.

To go over the hardware layout on bottom we have the charge, sync, and docking port as well as the microphone pinhole and that is all, very sleek.

Up top we have the 3.5mm headphone jack and that new fancy micro-SIM slot for the 4G LTE SIM card.

Then heading around to the left side of the device we have the volume up/down rocker, the power and wake button as well as one of the two stereo speaker grills. I like the speakers being on the sides rather than the rear because the sound doesn’t get lost or muffled when not facing right or laying on a lap or desk.

Flip things over and we have the 3MP camera on the rear and it comes with LED flash for those in need. The rear has a nice two-tone design with an aluminum bezel around the entire device.

The back features a nice brushed aluminum look and really makes the device appear polished and nicely designed. We have Verizon, Samsung, and that all important 4G LTE plastered on the back in case anyone forgets it.

Performance was great and things are extremely smooth on Android 3.1 Honeycomb, for a full rundown of the OS check out Chris Burns Android 3.0 Xoom Review as it covers Android Honeycomb in depth. The important thing with this device is being able to get online without Wi-Fi, Having blazing fast speeds from 4G LTE I feel like I’m using my home W-Fi connection anywhere I go. I went to the park this morning with the dogs and it was extremely fast and I’m highly impressed so far.

For now here is the video and you can expect a full rundown and speedtests coming very shortly.
