| Motorola DROID Bionic Clears the FCC, Confirms 4.3″ Screen and Shows Plenty of Pictures Posted: 07 Aug 2011 11:43 AM PDT We continue to get more and more looks of the upcoming Droid Bionic and today we get even more with the official FCC filing for the Motorola superphone. We saw leaked pictures a few days ago suggesting a 4.5″ screen but according to the official FCC paperwork you’ll be streaming Netflix on the 4.3″ qHD display so that should wrap up that rumor.
The FCC filing shows just about every angle and look one would want of the device. From the front and rear, to all the internals and also even revealed a inductive charging battery cover door pictured below. As you all know we have been watching and covering this device for what seems like a year now, but it should finally hit shelves coming this September.
For even more recently leaked pictures feel free to check out this story as well as browse through this gallery while you’re at it. We have been waiting patiently since CES in January for this phone so hopefully it doesn’t disappoint when it finally hits the shelves. It might have some tough competition this fall if this leaked roadmap shows us anything. Again for all the pictures head over to the FCC filing with this link. [via Droid-Life] ) |

Posted: 06 Aug 2011 04:21 PM PDT The past few weeks sure have been a good time to be a fan of Android Community as we have been giving away Android Honeycomb tablets. This was our first Tabletpalooza Giveaway and trust me more will be coming soon. Thanks to NVIDIA we were able to give away not one, but five dual-core Tegra 2 tablets over the past few weeks and for that everyone should thank NVIDIA. Now for the winners…
Just to refresh everyone here was the original Week 3 Tabletpalooza Post so be sure to check that out as well as the Week 1 & 2 Winners round-up story. We had thousands of entries over at Google+ and you can see plenty of those comments over at the Google+ Giveaway Thread, we even cleared Google’s comment limit and had to open new threads a few times. | GetJar Gold Will Provide Top Android Apps Totally Free Posted: 06 Aug 2011 02:33 PM PDT GetJar is now going to offer GetJar Gold where users can get top android applications “appsolutely” free. Basically this will be similar to the free app of the day that Amazon has been doing but instead gold members will have a list of top Android apps each week to choose from. I can’t complain about free stuff, who would right?
This week they have a great selection too, with apps like Swiftkey X, Backbreaker, The Moron Test and more. I do want to mention that in the past if you’ve ever used GetJar they offer single app downloads so getting app updates isn’t usually on their list. Whether they will start offering updates for paid apps with GetJar Gold we still don’t know, as updates are pretty important. Developers might not like the idea just like some have said in the past with Amazon’s free apps, but the more options for consumers the better. GetJar is hoping this will drive in more traffic to the site by offering free top quality apps to gold members. Check out all the freebies this week at the source link below. [via GetJar] ) |
| Samsung Galaxy Gio Coming August 8th with Gingerbread in Tow Posted: 06 Aug 2011 02:17 PM PDT Samsung has a little mid-range offering in the Galaxy Gio and its headed for Canada starting Monday, August 8th. We first saw this device back in January and what you get here is a decent mid-range powered device with Android 2.3 Gingerbread but the rest of the specs might leave a little to be desired.
The Samsung Galaxy Gio should look familiar as it has a very similar design to other Galaxy phones. The same coated rear panel and square camera and all. What you Canadians will be getting from Bell or Virgin Mobile in the Galaxy Gio is Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 3 MP camera as well as a 3.2″ display. The only downside is the processor is only 800 Mhz but for the price this phone should be pretty decent. Available August 8th for only $149 OFF contract, you can get this for free with a new 3-year agreement. While it may not be a top tier phone it does come in at a great price and the specs and design could have some claiming this is the poor mans Nexus S. Having decent performance and no contract for just $149 makes this worth the buy for someone in Canada that doesn’t need the best. If this device is any interest to you be sure to check out both Bell and Virgin Mobile in Canada starting Monday, August 8th. Device Info

| Android Community Weekly: August 6 , 2011 Posted: 06 Aug 2011 12:07 PM PDT It's been another amazing week of tech news, and we'll fill you in on anything you may have missed in this issue of Android Community Weekly! Monday, the LG THRILL 4G was officially reviewed by Chris Burns. We were also informed that the device would indeed be delayed until the end of August.
The HTC Desire finally received its very own update to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) this past Monday. Also expect an update very soon for the LG Revolution; it should include many bug fixes but still no Gingerbread upgrade. A couple applications saw new versions this week as well, Skype and Google+. Skype's update in the Android Market included support for many more smartphones. As for Google+, you should definitely check out the improvements included into Huddles and Notifications. Those who unofficially update their devices will be pleased to know that the Sony XPERIA, Neo, PLAY, and Arc will officially be supported by CyanogenMod 7 very soon. AT&T recently informed it's customers that it will move those with unlimited data to a tiered plan if they continue to tether their devices. This execution is most likely in response to their upcoming improved LTE data network. On that same note, the next generation Motorola ATRIX HD may run on AT&T's 4G LTE towers. We've wondered who will be the SoC (System-on-a-chip) manufacturer for Google's next flagship device for a long while now; and now it seems we have a winner! They seem to have chosen the Texas Instruments OMAP 4 CPU; nothing is set in stone, but this is the most information we've seen on the device. Wednesday, Chris Burns ran a hands-on and unboxing for the HTC Wildfire S on T-Mobile. The device hit stores later that same day. A more thorough review of the Wildfire S took place the next day (when we actually found out how good this mid-ranged smartphone actually was!) It turns out that the Wildfire S performed surprisingly well in the benchmarks with its 600Mhz single-core processor. Also unboxed this week was the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 with 4G LTE. This sleek tablet certainly won't disappoint us in its upcoming in-depth review by Cory Gunther. Some interesting gadgets and applications have emerged this week, and hopefully some will set a trend into the future of technology. It turns out Motorola may be working on a new "Smartwatch" that runs Android OS. I'm not the kind of guy that wears a watch, but if this product actually takes flight then that may very well change! The Seagate GoFlex Satellite HDD now supports the Android operating system for transferring data over a WiFi connection. To use this feature, you must download the official Android app from the market. Another application worth taking a look at if you are in the market for buying a used car is VIN Viper. Just take a picture of the VIN # to get a rough price of what the vehicle is actually worth. It syncs with your Carfax account to look up any damages and incorporate them into the price. Yet another auto-oriented application released was the Nissan LEAF official Android app. With this, the driver will be able to see detailed specs on the life of their battery, set climate control, and even start the car remotely from your smartphone. We always try to end Android Community Weekly with any promotions/deals/savings to help bring you closer to owning anything Android! Currently, Verizon Wireless is offering $50 off a tablet when you purchase any cellphone, and with the fastest service around – it may be worth your while. Also, don't forget to check back for the final winners of TABLETPALOOZA! They will be announced this coming Monday, August 8. ) |
