| Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is $70 cheaper at Newegg until 8/31 Posted: 14 Aug 2011 11:50 AM PDT Everyone loves to save a few extra dollars where they can right? Over at one of my favorite online stores Newegg.com, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 has a little $70 dollar savings attached to it. While this isn’t actually $70 off they are offering a free gift card worth $70 dollars with the purchase of the tablet. Although you still pay full price you’ll have a gift card to buy accessories, cases, or anything computer related as Newegg sales a ton of great stuff at exceptional prices.
After looking a bit closer it appears Newegg is offering savings on all Samsung tablets and they have the same sort of deal for both the original 7″ Galaxy Tab, as well as the Tab 10.1 16GB version. The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is one of, if not the best Android tablet currently being offered. It was recently updated with the Samsung Touch Wiz UX and you can check that out here. It is super sleek, thin, and extremely lightweight and recently has become my favorite tablet hands down. I’ve been enjoying the Verizon LTE version and you can see my thoughts in the full review. Again this deal is only available at newegg.com and buyers will get a $70 gift card with the purchase of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 32GB version, or a $60 dollar card with the 16GB flavor. These deals wont last for long so head over to newegg at the source link below for more details. Device Info

| ASUS Padfone Caught on Video, May Ship with Ice Cream Sandwich Posted: 14 Aug 2011 11:32 AM PDT Earlier this year back in May we heard ASUS had something special in the works and later the press photos were leaked of what they are calling the ASUS Padfone. According to Alex Sun, head of their Personal Mobile Device Department, the Padfone will in fact be launching with Android 2.4 (or 4.0) Ice Cream Sandwich.
Ice Cream Sandwich as we all know should be unifying current versions of Android into one tasty “Sandwich” and this would be the ideal operating system for the ASUS Padfone. What we have in case you’ve forgot is a 10.1″ Android tablet but with a compartment on the rear that will house the brain of the tablet, and that will be a powerful dual-core ASUS Smartphone. We’ve seen it before but this picture below might help a few readers out.
According to our sources there was also some small talk regarding a few exciting things. Those were that we should see the Padfone around October/November, possible a 3D version, as well as offering a 4G LTE Padfone coming early 2012. While we haven’t seen much promise from the smartphone department at ASUS, the Transformer tablet quickly became a front runner in the Android tablet market and is still selling like hot cakes and hard to keep on the shelves so we are all excited to see what they bring next to the table. While this video might not be all that new, A lot of readers most likely haven’t seen it and it details just what we can expect to see with the upcoming ASUS Padfone in the coming months. | Acer Iconia A500 3.2 Honeycomb OTA Update expected around August 25th Posted: 14 Aug 2011 11:08 AM PDT While many tablets have already seen the update to Android 3.2 Honeycomb like the Motorola Xoom and the ASUS Transformer we haven’t heard anything regarding the Acer A500 Tablet. It was updated to Android 3.1 back in July but appears to be a little late to the 3.2 party. Users wont need to wait much longer because we may see the update in August.
Don’t feel that bad though Acer Fans, the G-Slate only received 3.1 like this week so you guys are still looking pretty good for current and future updates. The Iconia A500 should see 3.2 start rolling out on August 25 according to the Acer Malaysia Facebook page, and while Acer hasn’t mentioned anything regarding the US update this is a good sign that it is coming. Do take note that the original update was penciled in for August 10th but that never happened obviously. Hopefully this 2-3 week delay will help Acer get everything dialed in and we may even see other regions begin the update around the same date. With the OTA getting closer to rolling out we should be hearing from Acer regarding the US update any day now so be sure to check back often. Device Info

| ASUS Eee Pad Slider Launching in September? [Hands-On Video] Posted: 14 Aug 2011 10:41 AM PDT The ASUS Eee Pad Slider that was unveiled back at CES2011 has seen a bit of attention over the past few weeks, and with good reason. Some new information is suggesting we may see the nifty slider tablet as soon as September. We have heard a lot about it over the last month or so and regarding a release date the last comments claimed it was being delayed until Fall.
Just two weeks ago the ASUS Slider cleared the FCC and that was quickly followed with a lengthy video review showing just how impressive the actual design is. It slides extremely smooth and I really like the idea here. According to Notebook Italia we will be seeing this QWERTY’d up tablet this September, and they’ve also laid out some full specs.
While the above picture shows it being a little thicker than most would like, we do know we can expect this to launch with an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM and come in both 16GB ($400) and 32GB ($550) flavors at launch. It also has all the other usual Honeycomb tablet specs with the 10″ display and front/rear facing cameras. They do mention it will ship with Android 3.1 Honeycomb but with the Transformer already being updated to 3.2 there is a possibility the Slider will launch with it too, or at least get updated very quick. New details also claim ASUS will be throwing in 1 year of free “Unlimited ASUS Web Storage” from the cloud for free with purchase of the ASUS Slider. Hopefully in about a month’s time we will be finding out the rest of the details and see this hit the shelves. Update: We have also found a full hands-on and unboxing video Device Info

| Posted: 13 Aug 2011 08:24 PM PDT MAX GO, the mobile Android application for Cinemax subscribers, is now available in the Android Market. Similar to HBO GO, this service will be available after users authenticate their cable/satellite provider’s information. Any movie or series available to Cinemax on demand will be available for mobile use on MAX GO.
The application will require Android OS 2.1 to 2.3.3 to properly function. Unfortunately, for those running either 2.3.4 or 2.3.5, your devices are not currently supported. According to many reviews, it seems that many cable/satellite providers are not compatible with the application and thus leaving MAX GO with some pretty poor ratings. Just like any application presently released, it must be compatible with a wide majority of devices – so HBO has some some obstacles to maneuver through before this is considered successful. This will be a great addition to current video streaming applications such as HBO GO, Hulu Plus, and Netflix. Over 400 movies and TV shows will be instantly available to stream, and of course quality will solely depend on the strength of your internet connection. Expect a proper review/hands-on with this application very soon. [via Android Police] ) |
| HTC DROID Incredible 2.3 (Gingerbread) Update: To be or Not to be? Posted: 13 Aug 2011 01:14 PM PDT Hardware manufacturers and cell phone companies try to avoid fragmentation of the many different versions of Android OS, but some phones are bound to be left behind. Of these, the HTC DROID Incredible was thought to not receive the upgrade to 2.3 (Gingerbread). An owner of the device questioned a Canadian HTC customer support rep to when he should expect his update. They promptly replied that “the Droid Incredible is not on that list” for future updates.
Yet recently, another E-Mail has surfaced stating that “The Droid Incredible is still slated for a Gingerbread 2.3 update”. The US HTC representative expressed that their is no estimated date for release, and that the update was definitely not cancelled. This is great news, yet hearing it from an official Verizon representative is what we are all waiting for. Personally, there should be no reason for HTC or Verizon to cancel this update. It has sufficient hardware for running Gingerbread, and other devices with nearly identical specs (EVO 4G, myTouch4G) have already been updated successfully. Unofficial updates to Gingerbread for practically ancient phones (HTC Hero, HTC G1) have been available for months now, so it shouldn’t prove to be a problem. If the phone wasn’t on HTC’s list, then maybe the update is far from ready; nevertheless, we should expect it eventually. [via Phandroid] Device Info
