Verizon 4G LTE active on 22 new markets today, 17 more next month

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 11:16 AM PDT

In case you missed the announcement last month, Verizon is activating another 22 markets today with those ever so capable 4G LTE speeds. Many of the recently announced locations have already seen the 4G speeds hit devices but they are all officially getting the green light starting today, so start your engines — or smartphones.

With over 26 new markets last month and now another 17 today Verizon is well on their way to having the entire US covered in 4G LTE soon. Compare that to the what — 5 markets AT&T has rolled out thus far. Lets just say they have their work cut out for them. It seems like every other week Verizon is announcing another 15-25 markets, I’m not complaining either, just saying.

Soon I might have to get a new map when that entire thing is covered in red. Here is a list of some of the more notable locations set to get 4G LTE starting today:

-Birmingham, Ala.
-Modesto and Stockton, Calif.
-Fort Myers, Fla.
-Bloomington, Elkhart, Evansville, South Bend and Terre Haute, Ind.
-Sioux City, Iowa
-Hagerstown, Md.
-Tupelo, Miss.
-Albuquerque and Santa Fe, N.M.
-Buffalo, N.Y.
-Asheville, N.C.
-Bartlesville, Okla.
-Jackson and Martin, Tenn.
-Greater Hampton Roads and Richmond, Va.
-Green Bay, Wis.

Verizon knows they have a fast network, and that no one will be catching up to the size anytime soon. For those that would like a decent laugh this afternoon Verizon has provided us with not one, but five awesome new short video clips showing off their 4G LTE. Calling these the five “instant results” commercials. Below you’ll find my favorite as an added bonus.

Motorola Admiral coming October 23rd with QWERTY keyboard and all

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 10:52 AM PDT

The Motorola Admiral is finally official today, coming to the now network with that special push-to-talk feature, but no 4G WiMAX sadly. This awesome little phone should make plenty of users happy, and people love hardware qwerty keyboards still — right Blackberry? We’ve seen this mid-range device leak a few times in the recent past but now its official and will be coming to market October 23rd, then will hit stores on the yellow carrier starting November 13th. More specs and details after the break.

It’s actually a pretty powerful mid-range phone coming in with a great price. The Admiral features a 3.1″ display and a 1.2 GHz single-core processor, a 5 megapixel camera on the back and the entire device has been labeled as “military spec tough” and has a military 810G spec approval. Basically it can handle the task at hand, and come back in one piece.

The Admiral is the first smartphone to work with Direct Connect, which the company calls the gold standard for push-to-talk capabilities, something many military members and construction employees still use daily. The 810G military spec standard means it can handle dust, water, vibrations, extreme heat and a few other special things most smartphones can’t handle. It appears Motorola is taking a new aim and offering exceptionally strong and durable smartphones in the future. The Motorola Admiral might not be as sleek or thin as the new DROID RAZR, but it should get the job done just fine for those in need.

Come October 23rd you can pre-order your own and start push-to-talking as soon as it arrives.

HTC Amaze 4G Gets permanent One-Click Root

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 10:34 AM PDT

T-Mobile and HTC’s new flagship phone the HTC Amaze 4G has already been fully rooted thanks to those sneaky developers at XDA. Not only that but it’s as simple as can be using an easy one-click-root method, nothing difficult here. Until today they only had a temp root method that didn’t last but now we have a full permanent root method for you to give a try below.

Do take note that your bootloader must be unlocked or the method below will just be another temp-root. You need a fully unlocked bootloader to achieve permanent root. While the Amaze 4G isn’t listed yet at the HTCdev.com/bootloader site for unlocking via the new method, it will still work and you can head there to officially unlock your device, then head back to XDA and get your root on.

As usual, remember that this will void your warranty and we hold no responsibility for your actions. The process is simple and all you need is the HTC drivers and the root method and you’re good to go.

Instructions:

-Download HTC USB drivers here
-Download one-click root here

-Download files above
-Extract to C:\
-Navigate into Zerg rush folder
-Click ZergRushTempRoot.bat
-Wait like 3 min
-Reboot
-Enjoy PermRooted Amaze 4G

One and done, it’s as easy as that. Just unzip the files and run the root program and you now have complete freeeedom. The Amaze 4G is an awesome device and you can see our full review here, as well as a video comparison with the Galaxy S II. Go get rooted, wait for those recovery tools to start flooding in, and your custom roms are just hours away. Enjoy!

Motorola Xoom 32GB refurb only $339 from Amazon [Deal]

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 10:11 AM PDT

In case you’ve never been to woot.com I highly suggest you check it out. They were recently snatched up by the big box online retailer Amazon and today they are both working to bring this awesome deal to the table. The Wi-Fi only Motorola Xoom 32GB can be yours for just $339 from Amazon, but they are refurbished units.

Listed as the Amazon Gold Box deal of the day you can snag one up now but they are going fast. The Xoom is running on Android 3.2 Honeycomb, will ship for free, and most likely be among the first to receive Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich so it’s worth a shot right? Being the first Honeycomb tablet it may not be the thinnest, lightest, or the prettiest but it’s still a great tablet and now at an awesome price.

The deal wont last forever so if you are debating it I recommend you hurry and decide. It’s not actually coming from Amazon so the buy now button isn’t present. Just click that “1 refurbished from” box and you can buy as many as you can right from the popular woot.com we mentioned above. The last time we saw the Xoom at Woot it was $350 so things are starting to drop in price finally. As usual, to help you decide here is our big Motorola Xoom review. Now head down to Amazon and pick one up by clicking here.

Vizio 8 owners get three free months of Hulu Plus via software update

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 10:04 AM PDT

Vizio’s 8-inch tablet is a bit of a tough sell in a sea of similar competitors, despite its relatively low retail price of $299. But today it’s a little more attractive: a new software update is rolling out that includes three free months of access to Hulu’s premium streaming app, Hulu Plus. That’s in addition to a free month of Netflix, making the Vizio tablet a suddenly attractive alternative for video-hungry Android users.

The 8-inch tablet is a solid piece of tech, but it’s got more than one thing going against it. First, for a little more dough you could get an Asus Transformer or Acer Iconia Tab, both of which run Honeycomb instead of the Vizio’s skinned Gingerbread. And Honeycomb tablets have access to Google apps and the Android Market, which the Vizio tablet sorely lacks. The Vizio tablet still gets access to a wide collection of included apps like the Nook bookstore and any side-loaded apps that users can fit on its 4GB internal storage.

The addition of some free video streaming makes the Vizio tablet about $40-50 higher in a value proposition, assuming that you intend to use the Hulu Plus and Netflix apps. You’ll need to sign up for an account with both services, including a credit card number, before getting access to the trial period. Once the trial is over you’ll be automatically renewed, assuming you don’t cancel your subscriptions. So what do you think – does some free video streaming service change your opinion on Vizio’s Wifi tablet?

Motorola promises Ice Cream Sandwich update for DROID BIONIC

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 09:29 AM PDT

We’ve heard a lot in the last couple of days from DROID BIONIC owners who are more than a little miffed about the relatively quick launch of the DROID RAZR. Well take heart, early adopters: a Motorola representative confirmed that the company is planning on upgrading the BIONIC’s software to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The confirmation came after a Facebook user asked the question on the company page.

Motorola and other manufacturers are waiting for Google to release the Ice Cream Sandwich source code, which will probably happen a couple of weeks to a months after the Galaxy Nexus makes it to retail stores. Once the source is public, code monkeys across the Android world will begin crafting software for new and old phones alike. BIONIC owners should check out our Ice Cream Sandwich coverage in the comfortable knowledge that their phones will receive the new features… someday. Verizon and Motorola have yet to fix some of the early bugs that are still plaguing owners.

Unfortunately Motorola has a pretty lackluster track record for device upgrades – for example, the DROID X2 only got Gingerbread in late July, almost nine months after the source code became publicly available. Motorola tends to load down their phones with a custom don’t-call-it-BLUR interface, and Verizon also has a bad habit of including bloatware and other customizations. It could be quite a while before BIONIC owners get to taste Ice Cream Sandwich, but at least their expensive 4G phones will get it eventually.

Check out our hands-on coverage of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich:

ZTE makes it so with Warp for Boost Mobile, available Nov. 2nd

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 09:01 AM PDT

As a prepaid MVNO, Boost Mobile doesn’t always get the latest and greatest of Android hardware. ZTE is aiming to change that with their new Warp Gingerbread phone, featuring a full 4.3-inch screen and a 1GHz processor. The phone is set to be available on November 2nd for $249.99, without contract.

The Warp isn’t quite ready to hold up to late-model phones like the Galaxy S II or DROID RAZR, but it easily outpaces the rest of Boost Mobile’s Android offerings. It’s only the second Boost phone to use Android 2.3 Gingerbread (after the Samsung Transform Ultra) and as of now it’s got the  largest screen on the carrier as well. Resolution isn’t mentioned in the press release or on Boost Mobile’s website, but a standard 800 x 480 LCD panel is more than likely. The Warp has an undetermined amount of on-board storage, but the MicroSD card slot is pre-packaged with a 2GB card, with support for cards as large as 32GB.

Boost is differentiating the phone with “ID packs,” packaged downloads of apps, widgets, ringtones and wallpapers along a particular theme, like sports or music. ID packs that will launch with the phone include MTV Music Pack, E!, Socially Connected, Professional, Entertainment, Lo2Yo Latino, Lo2Yo Mujer and Lo2Yo Futbol. The ZTE Warp will include the full suite of Google Apps and access to the Android Market.

Asus says original Transformer will get Ice Cream Sandwich

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 08:25 AM PDT

The EEE Pad Transformer is an impressive and versatile tablet, and just because Asus is preparing a successor with an insane quad-core processor doesn’t mean it should be left behind. Fortunately, that does not appear to be the case: Pocket-lint is quoting a source inside Asus that says the original Transformer will be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Unfortunately, the source didn’t give a timeframe for the software update.

Despite running on hardware that’s nearly a year old in development terms, the original Transformer is no slouch when it comes to specifications. The 1GHz Tegra 2 processor and a full gigabyte of memory handle Honeycomb just fine, and should be up to the task of Ice Cream Sandwich without any problem. It’s encouraging to see Asus confirm that ICS is coming to its current customers, especially after chairman Jonney Shih hinted that the upgrade could come before the end of the year.

Currently Google is expected to release the Ice Cream Sandwich open-source code two weeks or so after the Galaxy Nexus launches, and as we’ve been hearing for months, the new operating system is designed to play well with both smartphones and tablets. With the Transformer 2 announcement coming November 9th, it’s entirely possible that we could see the first Ice Cream Sandwich tablets hitting the market before New Years. We’ll keep you updated on the upgrade options for the Transformer and other Honeycomb tablets as news breaks.

AMD invests in BlueStacks to bring Android apps to Windows tablets

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 07:55 AM PDT

Android and Windows users had something to cheer about last week when start-up BlueStacks released the first version of their Android emulation software, which makes running and syncing Android apps on Windows easy. Now hardware giant AMD and virtualization software maker Citrix are investing 5.6 million dollars into the small company, hoping to spur development and expand x86 hardware’s capabilities to include the wide range of Android apps. BlueStacks says that they’ll use the cash to quickly bring feature-complete versions of its Player software to desktop computers.

The potential for BlueStacks is promising to say the least. Windows doesn’t have a lot of touch-optimized software at the moment, and with the tablet-friendly Windows 8 on the horizon, that’s a definite handicap. Opening up Windows and other desktop operating systems to hundreds of thousands of Android apps can only help, and considering that x86 tablets tend to be 2-3 times the price of current Android slates, it wouldn’t pose a threat to Honeycomb or upcoming Ice Cream Sandwich tablets. Not only does BlueStacks run Android software on Windows, it can also sync apps with users’ phones, though this early in the development cycle the selection and support is rudimentary at best. The Pro version, which will run paid Android apps, is expected before the end of the year.

AMD could use whatever help it can find at this point. The company has been trailing behind Intel in the processor market for years, and while its Fusion low-power netbook chips have been well-received, they’re still not making a significant dent in the desktop market. Both AMD and Intel are having trouble finding traction in the tablet market, with ARM processors being the internals of choice at the moment. Citrix, a professional virtualization company that already supports the iPad and Android tablets, is also investing in BlueStacks.

Asus EEE Pad Slider tablet launching in the UK October 24th

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 07:32 AM PDT

Americans have had access to Asus’ EEE Pad Slider with its integrated slide-out keyboard for a while, but come next Monday, Brits can pick one up at their leisure. Asus has announced that the Slider will be available starting at £429.99, or about $680 USD. Retailers PC World and Curry’s will be the first to offer the tablet, both online and in-store.

In case you’ve forgotten, the Slider is a lot like the EEE Pad Transformer with a keyboard that tucks away when not in use, instead of detaching completely. The dual-core Tegra 2 processor runs at an impressive 1.2GHz, powering Honeycomb on the 10-inch 1280 x 800 screen. 32GB of on-board storage should be enough for all but the largest media collections.  The Slider is currently only available in WiFi form, and sadly, we haven’t heard anything about a mobile broadband version. Check out this hands-on for an in-depth look at the tablet.

If you’re on the fence about a Transformer or Slider purchase, you might want to wait a few weeks. Asus has been teasing the upcoming Transformer 2 with a slick CG video, and an executive showed off the device on-stage while confirming its quad-core Tegra 3 processor. The official announcement is slated for November 9th, and considering what the executive said about Ice Cream Sandwich tablets, it could be ready to hit the market before the end of the year. We haven’t heard of a successor to the Slider, though, so if you’re heart is set on an all-in-one form factor, go right ahead.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus barometer is for faster GPS lock

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 07:09 AM PDT

We have spent our share of hands on time with the new Galaxy Nexus smartphone and it is a sweet device for sure. There have been some folks wondering why among the sensors that the Nexus has, Samsung chose to include a barometer. After all most of us, tend to think of a barometer as only useful for weather forecasting.

One of the Google engineering team that works on Android is Dan Morrill and he has cleared the air on why a barometer is inside the Galaxy Nexus and for that matter the older Motorola Xoom has a barometer as well. Morrill says that the barometer is there to help the smartphones and tablets get a GPS fix more quickly and accurately. As some of the comments point out a barometer is almost the same as an altimeter.

The barometer helps the GPS device solve a set of equations needed to get a signal lock with more speed and accuracy. The barometer could certainly be used for other things too, but the main reason is to speed GPS locks according to Morrill. Now you know!

Analyst predicts 339 million low-end Android phones by 2015

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 06:58 AM PDT

The last figure we heard from Google on official Android activations was a jaw-dropping 190 million, but that didn’t make any distinction between late-model, high-end smartphones and the lower-end phones that have been filling out carriers’ line ups lately. According to analyst firm In-Stat, the number of low-end Android phones (under $150 USD unlocked) alone will jump to 339 million over the next four years, spurred on by Android’s flexibility and other mobile operating systems’ lack of competition in the space. But that isn’t necessarily a good thing for everyone.

As we all know, manufacturers and carriers have no real reason to support their phones with new software once a customer buys it. While the current Android ecosystem puts upgrade pressure on manufacturers and carriers for high-end phones, many low-end phones see slow upgrades or none at all. Most users of cheap smartphones aren’t all that interested in software upgrades, if they care about the operating system at all. In-Stat says that makes the expanding low-end market a minefield of outdated software, dragging the rest of the Android ecosystem down.

As Android makes leaps and bounds in its software with Ice Cream Sandwich and later versions, a larger percentage of outdated phones that don’t use or can’t handle the newer OS could be a real headache for app developers and carriers. The popular wisdom is that more people with access to smartphones is a good thing, especially in emerging markets, and there’s nothing in this report to dispel that. But as Android grows to service consumers and hardware at every level of the economic spectrum, software makers and infrastructure companies will have to balance making the latest and greatest available with maintaining support for older and less-expensive handsets.

iPhones dominate AT&T Q3 sales, but Android is catching up

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 06:12 AM PDT

For a long time, there was no real challenger to the iPhone’s smartphone dominance. That all changed after Android started getting traction and the devices running the OS started to sell in droves. AT&T was the first of the iPhone carriers in the US and the iPhone still continues to be the most common smartphone sold on the network.

AT&T has released the results for Q3 and talks a bit about the iPhone and Android devices in with the usual profit numbers. AT&T notes that the iPhone was its most popular smartphone with 2.7 million activations during the quarter. That counts up to more activations than all other devices combines. However, AT&T also notes that the iPhone and Android together were almost half of its total 4.8 million smartphones sold.

Android is also catching up to the iPhone quickly on the network with sales of the Android devices on the network nearly doubling year over year. AT&T postpaid customers are now using more smartphones than dumb phones for the first time. AT&T reports a total of 68.6 million postpaid subscribers and 52.6% of that number is smartphone users. In the same quarter last year, only 39.1% of all users on the network were rocking smartphones.

Insiders claim Samsung smartphone sales topped Apple in Q3

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 05:08 AM PDT

I wonder if Apple will find a way to blame rumors for this one as it did for the missed expectations on its earnings for fiscal Q4. Insiders are claiming that Samsung actually sold more smartphones than Apple in Q3. These insiders are claiming that Samsung moved 20 million of its devices. Apple has previously confirmed that it moved 17.1 million iPhones.

Undoubtedly, the fact that consumers were holding off on buying the iPhone 4 led to the reduced shipments. Apple will surely have a bang up quarter with the iPhone 4S on the market now. The other issue with confirming this story is that Samsung doesn’t offer shipment numbers in its quarterly reports. That means other than the unnamed insiders we have no proof that Samsung actually shipped 20 million smartphones.

The numbers for Samsung seem believable enough though. Strategy Analytics has previously said that its estimates predicted Samsung shipped 12 million smartphones in Q1 2011 and then in Q2 it shipped 19 million. That 20 million number suddenly seems more believable. What do you think the odds of Samsung holding on to that lead are going into the current quarter? The iPhone 4S is now here and so is the Galaxy Nexus.

Navigon upgrades Android nav app with new features

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 04:52 AM PDT

If you are an Android user that does a lot of traveling and wants an Android nav app, Navigon is one of the most popular choices out there. The app isn't exactly cheap to purchase at $27.95, but it is more appealing to many than one that has a monthly fee. If you are using Navigon already, the company has announced that it has upgraded the app to version 4.0.

The updated app makes it easier to mange maps within the app and to select what regions to download to the device. This allows the user to better manage the device memory and reduces the time needed to download a map. A new option for a quarterly subscription to a quarterly map updates to keep the app up to date with new roads.

The update also brings a couple new in app purchase options with a cockpit function display that allows the driver to monitor certain driving functions like speed, acceleration for the last 30 minutes or the last quarter mile. The other in app purchase is Zagat Surveys. The app update is free and the cockpit purchase is $4.95 with the Zagat option being $7.95.

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 03:54 AM PDT

If you are rocking a Sony Ericsson Android smartphone that is running Android 2.3.4 or an older version of the OS you have something to look forward to for next year. Sony has announced in the Netherlands that it will be upgrading all of its 2011 Android devices to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in 2012. Exactly when in 2012 is anyone’s guess.

Sony Ericsson made the announcement via Facebook in the Netherlands. We already know that Motorola is promising to update the new and cool Droid RAZR to Ice Cream Sandwich in early 2012. I would bet that “early” time frame is when the OS will be available for everyone. It doesn’t look like smartphone markers are wasting any time getting the OS ready.

Smartphones specifically getting the update include the Xpreia Play, neo and neo V. The Mini Pro, Xperia and arc Ray will also get the update. Apparently, the translated Dutch Facebook post reads as follows:

We are planning our 2011 Xperia smartphone portfolio after Gingerbread 2.3.4. upgrade to the next Android platform. The official Sony Ericsson communication about software upgrades will always be my international colleagues publish on our Blog: http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/

Sony Music Unlimited comes to Tablet S and other Android tablets

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 03:40 AM PDT

Sony has announced that its unlimited music streaming service is now available for Android tablets. The video streaming platform has been on tablets already. The service is Sony’s Music unlimited and it is first hitting the Sony Tablet S device. It will also be available as a download app for any Android tablet user to enjoy. The app allows access to the cloud-based Music Unlimited network.

The new v1.2 app allows tablets to access the service, which has been available for Android smartphones for a while. The updated app also brings with it a tweaked user interface. The subscriber can now create playlists faster and discover related artists more easily. The navigation between album view and the catalog is faster as well.

The Music Unlimited service is available in nine different countries with a basic subscription at $3.99 monthly. The premium subscription is $9.99 monthly. Sony Tablet S users can get a 180-day trial of the Basic plan at no charge right now.

“As one of the largest digital entertainment services, Sony Entertainment Network aims to bring new ways for consumers to enjoy digital music and video,” said Tim Schaaff, President, Sony Network Entertainment. “The launch of the Music Unlimited service on Sony Tablet marks one of our many significant steps to satisfying the mobile demands of our current consumers while opening up our cloud-based music service to completely new audiences.”

Trend Micro teams up with KDDI to make Android more secure

Posted: 20 Oct 2011 02:34 AM PDT

Trend Micro and KDDI have announced that they will be teaming up to ship Android smartphones that come out of the box with Trend Micro security protection. The smartphones packing in the new security software will start shipping in the middle of November. Trend Micro will load the smartphones up with its Virus Buster Mobile for au software.

The software will be part of the KDDI Anshin Security Pack that will be preinstalled on au smartphones and is designed to protect from malicious apps using filtering. The app will filter bad websites though the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network infrastructure. This infrastructure sifts through data from over 70 billion daily quires to find the sites that are trying to install malware or viruses onto Android devices.

Trend Micro says that the network has protected more than 130 million users since 2008. The network will protect users from phishing websites and malicious programs. Trend Micro and KDDI have worked together to secure Android devices before. The Anshin Security Pack will also include Secure Platform for remote lock and location search by 3LM.

Asus executive shows off Transformer 2 live, coming November 9th

Posted: 19 Oct 2011 07:03 PM PDT

We’ve been seeing a lot of the Asus Transformer 2 in the last few days, and now it’s been confirmed by none other than Asus executive Jonney Shih. Shih spoke at the AsiaD conference hosted by All Things D, where he pulled out what is almost certainly a nearly complete EEE Pad Transformer 3 and its keyboard attachment. Shih also confirmed that the tablet is using “Nvidia's quad core processor”, which to our ears sound like the Tegra 3.

Speaking on the original Transformer, Shih noted that it’s easily one of thew most popular Honeycomb tablets, and that Asus is on course to sell 2 million of them this year alone. He also said that the company has great hopes for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and that tablets running the new software may be coming before the end of the year. The Transformer 2, according to Shih, will be formally announced on November 9th, and that the 10-inch slate will be a mere 8.3mm thin.

Rumors of the Transformer successor have persisted since the summer, when we first heard that Nvidia’s “Kal-El” Tegra 3 processor might make its debut in the device. That would certainly line up with the new video that Nvidia was showing off, not to mention the sci-fi inspired video that dropped today. Shih’s November 9th date is just a little later than a UK online retailer’s guess at November 7th, but that gives us some hope that the tablet may be coming sooner rather than later. It’s a bit of a conundrum: since the original Transformer was so solid I’d like a crack at the Transformer 2 as fast as possible, but the longer the release date is dragged out, the more likely it is that it’ll come pre-loaded with Ice Cream Sandwich.

When asked about the PadPhone, the dockable phone-tablet combo that Asus showed off in concept form months ago, Shih said that the company expects the phone to go through the carrier gauntlet for a Q1 2012 release.

Motorola DROID RAZR coming to the UK November 1st

Posted: 19 Oct 2011 06:12 PM PDT

The Motorola DROID RAZR will simply be known as the “Motorola RAZR” in every territory outside the United States, and at least one is getting right in front of the vague “November” launch date set for the phone. According to online retailer Clove, the first stock of Motorola RAZR will be available in the United Kingdom on November 1st. The price is £379 or £454.80 after some expensive Value Added Tax, which comes out to $716 USD.

Online retailers have been known to jump the gun with upcoming products to secure some quick pre-orders, so take the news with a grain of salt. Since the UK’s cellular market favors unlocked phones instead of the cheaper subsidized handsets we get here, the prices tend to be greater even before you factor in the generally higher cost of electronics across the pond. Since the pre-tax price is about $597, you can expect the DROID RAZR to be in the $600 range when Verizon sells it off-contract.

Neither Motorola nor any regional carriers have confirmed a date or price for the DROID RAZR, but Verizon’s internal system pegs it for a November 10th launch at $299. That may or may not be before a mail-in rebate. Verizon customers will have a tough choice, since the very same document says that the Galaxy Nexus will also launch on Verizon the same day, and earlier reports put it at the same $299 price. If you’re still on the fence, be sure to take a gander at out Galaxy Nexus and DROID RAZR comparison.
