Break The Cubicle Chains With VMWare And NVIDIA Quadro Virtual Graphics Platform Posted: 18 Oct 2011 11:00 PM PDT Quadro professional users will soon be able to take advantage of a high-end, 3D graphics experience remotely on mobile, wireless devices such as Android-powered tablets, thanks to a new collaboration with VMware. Originally codenamed "Project Monterey", we showed off the NVIDIA Quadro Virtual Graphics Platform – a high performance remoting technology designed for workstation class applications – at SIGGRAPH 2011 in Vancouver, Canada. Today, VMWare and NVIDIA are teaming up to add the capability of a dedicated Quadro graphics card to VMware's enterprise class desktop virtualization solution, View 5.
At SIGGRAPH, we used Dassault's standard CATIA application running on a standard Lenovo D20 ThinkStation workstation outfitted with NVIDIA Quadro 6000 professional graphics cards. Using the Quadro Virtual Graphics Platform, we routed images from the workstation to various mobile devices using a wireless network. Utilizing VMWare's View Client will extend that capability by bringing the high-end, 3D graphics power of a Quadro workstation to laptops and Android tablets, like the NVIDIA Tegra-powered Lenovo ThinkPad. With VMWare View 5 Client, Quadro workstation users can connect to their desktops from virtually anywhere in the world, using a variety of mobile devices. Even the most visually demanding users will have the freedom to work from multiple locations, all while giving IT managers the security and management capabilities they need. These are exciting times for creative professionals who have adopted Quadro powered workstations as their tool of choice. Break the chain from your offices and unleash your creativity in the cloud. For information on how to participate in this new private beta program, contact your local VMware or NVIDIA account representative. Look for a public release in the near future. |
