Dark Knight Andy T-Shirts now available, show your Android spirit

Posted: 02 Nov 2011 10:52 AM PDT

Well folks, if looks like those awesome T-shirt designers are at it again with another fancy option this Halloween. They’ve just released the new “Dark Knight Andy” edition of their Android T-shirts. I think “King Kong Andy” and “Unstoppable Andy” are still my two favorites though.

The man behind these T-shirts is George Soto, and while recently they’ve been all about Android vs Apple this newest creation is just a nice Halloween edition instead. I don’t see Steve Jobs anywhere in this latest shirt design so maybe he’s changed his tune due to recent sad events. That or we can expect to see Tim Cook leading the charge on the next shirt in his popular on-going series.

Soto also offers “Andy vs Apple” which i believe was one of his first pieces of Android art and clothing. You can also get both a shirt or a poster of the highly popular “Exploded Andy“. All the shirts mentioned come in a variety of sizes and are priced at a reasonable $15 dollars for those interested, although this newest edition is $17 instead. While Halloween has already passed now would be a great time to get this new Dark Knight shirt so you’ll be prepared to show your Andy spirit come next year.

Who’s buying one? Put me down for two.

Samsung Galaxy Note gets ClockworkMod and Root

Posted: 02 Nov 2011 10:28 AM PDT

One thing I love about Samsung phones is they aren’t extremely difficult to break into and enjoy. No hoops to jump through like Motorola, or crazy bootloader unlocks like HTC. Instead they just need a few tricky developers and members of the community and we quickly have root access, overclocking kernels and more. This is the same situation with the Galaxy Note. It is very similar to the Galaxy S II but a little enlarged, and has many of the same file systems and goods under the hood making the process fairly quick. We have ClockworkMod and root already achieved thanks to XDA developers.

Now there are more than a few ways to root the new Samsung Galaxy Note and not all have been fully tested but there are plenty of options at XDA developers. I’m going to outline two here for you. The first you flash a custom ClockworkMod with Odin, then flash the root zip and you are good to go, the second is using the revolutionary tool to achieve root. For full Clockworkmod details and downloads check out this thread at XDA thanks to Netchip. Our friends at AndroidNZ also have a video walkthrough you can see here.

Obviously this is not for the faint at heart or those that are new to modding their Android devices, especially Sasmung unless you do your homework first. I’ve read the above method via Odin works but there is currently no way to reset the flash counter — something many Samsung users rely on to still honor their warranty so use that at your own risk. I’m only here to share the knowledge that has been passed to me. Next up the same guys that brought root to the Sensation, EVO 3D and many other HTC phones using their Revolutionary tool have just updated the zergrush Revolutionary tool to support Samsung. It will fully root your Galaxy Note with a few simple clicks of the mouse. If you look through the comments in this thread, many have rooted the Galaxy Note through Revolutionary with zero problems and are still able to reset the counter.

Like mentioned above this is one of those do at your own risk situations. If you are new or unsure you’d be better off waiting for an easier and safer one-click-root method as I’m sure they are coming, and soon. If you feel like taking the journey and rooting your new and shiny Galaxy Note feel free to drop us a comment and let us know how it goes.

Duke Nukem 3D blasts ads to smithereens after community complaints

Posted: 02 Nov 2011 10:28 AM PDT

Who wasn’t a little excited to see one of Duke’s greatest adventures come to Android? Some of the first buyers, for one – when Duke Nukem 3D landed in the Android Market for 99 cents and included in-game advertising, a number of reviewers called foul. Now developer Machineworks Northwest has removed the game’s advertising in response.

Duke says:” No ads!”.
We listened – new version with no ads – update now!

It’s a pretty common principle that Android developers can make money either via in-app ads or a paid or premium version, but not both. When a paid app gets advertising thrown in like the initial Duke Nukem 3D release, you’ll almost always see low review scores citing that exact reason. Duke Nukem 3D is currently sitting at a 2.9 out of 5 rating in the Market – pretty poor stuff for what’s supposed to be a AAA title.

There’s still a few issues with Machineworks Northwest’s pricing model. The Market app doesn’t actually include the full game – you have to purchase extra episodes via another 99 cent in-app payment to unlock all the content. For game that’s technically 15 years old, that’s rubbing a lot of gamers the wrong way. Considering the porting and UI work that has to go into this sort of a product, three dollars certainly isn’t unreasonable, but I imagine they’d get a lot fewer complaints if the app was simply $2.99.

Apple loses tablet patent lawsuit in Spain

Posted: 02 Nov 2011 09:39 AM PDT

La vaca santa! After winning injunctions against Samsung and its Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany and Australia, not to mention other various lawsuits around the world, a tiny Android tablet maker from Spain has successfully defended itself in a criminal patent suit. NK-T, makers of cheap Android tablets for their regional market, found themselves labelled as pirates and criminals when Apple filed an complaint against them in November, 2010. The court found NK-T innocent of criminal charges today.

The small company posted a victorious message to their blog. Via Google Translate:

Needless to clear all the damage it has caused this unjust accusation , both economically and emotionally to our company. We are a small company like many others in these times of crisis we are trying to get ahead, and it seems grossly unfair that a company the caliber of Apple has to use its dominant influence. Parallel to this, start the corresponding civil suit against Apple for consequential damages, lost profits and moral damage.

It looks like NT-K is going to pursue a civil case against Apple, and well they should – by filing the original complaint in criminal court, Apple saw to it that the company’s merchandise was seized and their EU import privileges suspended. looking through the company’s website, it looks like they only have one model for sale, a standard 7-inch Gingerbread tablet, which doesn’t even bear the resemblance to the iPad that Apple is claiming from Samsung’s devices.

With all the patent trolling Apple is doing in the US and abroad, it’s nice to see a win for the little guy. Of course, Apple went after a Spanish company on their home soil, and did it with an overbearing criminal case that they probably wouldn’t dare against the likes of Samsung or HTC. Here’s hoping this is a sign of more rational judicial decisions to come.

Norton expands Android offerings with Tablet Security app

Posted: 02 Nov 2011 09:18 AM PDT

Norton, peddlers of all things software security related, already has an established presence on the Android platform with its Mobile Security app, already available in the Android Market. Like always the company is looking to expand its offerings, and the latest comes in Norton Tablet Security, set to release soon for $39.99, recurring every year. Though it’s marketed as a tablet app, Tablet Security will work on all Android 2.2 Froyo devices and later.

Features include standard malware and virus scans, as well as a web filter that identifies malicious sites – both pretty similar to Norton’s desktop offerings. The web protection breaks any connection to a malicious website as soon as it’s initiated, essentially working as a firewall. Also included is a Lojack-style location tracker, which allows you to find your tablet via a web map if it’s lost or stolen. You can also secretly snap a photo via the front or rear cameras – the better to pass along to the police. A remote lock can keep others out of your personal data, and a “device lost” message can be display for those of a more civic-minded disposition.

Strangely, it looks like Norton Tablet Security won’t be offered in the Android Market. That may be because of the recurring yearly payment – I don’t know if Google has set up that kind of system just yet. Norton says that the software will be available from “select US and regional retailers”, so perhaps it’ll utilize a PC installation method.

CyanogenMod 7 coming to the ATRIX 4G, nightlies available now

Posted: 02 Nov 2011 07:48 AM PDT

The Motorola ATRIX 4G is a pretty solid device, but it’s a rare Android phone indeed that the CyanogenMod team can’t improve with some clean, optimized software. Brave ATRIX owners can now try their hand at an early build of CyanogenMod 7.1 for the AT&T device, assuming of course that it’s already rooted with a custom recovery installed. Like most “official” CM nightlies, it’s already surprisingly stable.

When the ATRIX launched, it did so with a locked bootloader, which in most cases makes CyanogenMod impossible on account of its custom kernel. But happily, the official Gingerbread update brought an unlockable bootloader with it, in the spirit of Motorola’s more relaxed attitude towards the aftermarket. Motorola’s unlockable bootloader is contingent upon carrier approval, so while the manufacture’s AT&T phones appear to be blessed, Verizon phones (like the upcoming DROID RAZR) will continue to labor in the land of proprietary Android software.

Naturally, the CM7 port isn’t perfect yet: there are still quite a few bugs to iron out before it gets to a stable release stage. The Gingerbread 2.3.7 codebase is well-trodden, so nearly all official functions are working, but the biometric sensor and Motorola’s WebTop interface are taking a backseat to the main action. Cameras on Motorola phones tend to be alittle tricky for ROM developers, but according to some of the latest posts on RootzWiki, it’s working well at the moment. Great news for ATRIX 4G owners – how’s about an ATRIX 2 port? Take your time, CM7 devs, we know you’ve got real lives to take care of as well.

HTC leads the US in total smartphone sales

Posted: 02 Nov 2011 07:20 AM PDT

The smartphone boom seems to have no end in sight, and for the moment, HTC is right at the forefront. Though Samsung is selling the most units worldwide, HTC has cornered the lucrative American market: according to Business Week, the Taiwanese manufacturer finished out the third quarter with 24 percent market share in the United States. That narrowly beats out Samsung with 21 percent, and Apple with 20 percent.

Not all of those impressive sales are Android, of course; HTC is one of the most popular sellers of Windows Phone 7 devices, and I’m sure there are still a few Windows Mobile holdouts. But with Android sitting pretty at more than 40% of the smartphone market, and Windows Mobile and Windows Phone 7 together claiming about 10%, it’s fair to say that HTC’s fortunes are currently resting on little green robots. Major upcoming phones for HTC include the Rezound on Verizon, expected at the company’s New York City announcement tomorrow, and the Vivid (codename Holiday) on AT&T, one of the first phones to take advantage of the carrier’s new 4G LTE network.

HTC’s bottom line is healthy, as well. The company announced that it had shipped 13.2 million devices worldwide in the third quarter, for an equivalent of $4.54 billion in total revenue, with an impressive 13.76% profit margin. That’s a 93% increase year-over-year. Unfortunately HTC’s outlook for Q4 isn’t nearly as rosy; the company expects sales to be essentially flat. With the iPhone 4S and new Samsung phones on all U.S. networks, it’ll be a photo finish to see who ends the fiscal year in first place.

LG Optimus 2X to get Android 4.0 after all?

Posted: 02 Nov 2011 06:53 AM PDT

Yesterday word that the LG Optimus 2X smartphone would not be getting an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich surfaced from a source that seemed legitimate. The source was the LG Indian Facebook Page. LG is now backtracking on the Facebook post and saying that it denies the rumour of no ICS on the smartphone. LG is calling its official Indian Facebook page the source of the rumour, which is odd indeed.

The latest statement from LG now is that it is “currently in the process of planning the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X.” The company offered no time frame on when the update might hit for the smartphone after the launch of ICS early next year. It could be that LG saw the firestorm the announcement of no ICS for the Optimus 2x created and decided it was best to create the update after all.

This isn’t the first time LG has made an about face on not offering an update on a smartphone after public outcry. The last time it happened was when LG stated the Desire would not get the update to Gingerbread.

Motorola DROID Bionic bug fix update coming before the end of the year

Posted: 01 Nov 2011 05:28 PM PDT

Maybe its just me but when Motorola had like 6 months and multiple delays with the DROID Bionic you’d have thought it would be pretty stellar out of the box, and it was (see our review) but it also had a slew of minor bugs and issues that need fixing. Motorola has acknowledges some of these and promised an update in November. Now we are finally getting a small update and while that is good, the November time frame isn’t looking as great.

At least we have an update coming for the many small bug fixes and glitches from the rather long list linked to above. Today a Motorola forums manager has confirmed that as of today the update is being tested and should be available within the next 30 to 60 days — So basically between now and the end of the year. I’m hoping this bug fix update doesn’t see a few delays like the Bionic did, but you never know with these things.

Apparently the acknowledged issues and bug list is quite large and you can see it here. We’d love to hear if any of you are experiencing these problems and what seems to be the biggest on your list, as well as anything not included in that post so we can bring it to attention. Hopefully this update comes on the earlier part of those projections so users wont have text app force closes and those high pitched wines coming from their handsets, just to name a few.

On a more serious note, with that large bug list I can see why the update is taking so long. Maybe they should just skip right to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich because Motorola promised late last month it was coming, they just didn’t say when. We can dream about that right? Motorola recently released the source code for the Bionic so users will be able to try things like CM7 dual-boots and such soon. Stay tuned as we’ll bring you any and all updates on this pending over the air update.

Android beating iPhone by more than two to one in the UK

Posted: 01 Nov 2011 04:18 PM PDT

Brits like their Android. In the United Kingdom, Android phones are outselling the iPhone by a factor of two to one, according to analytical firm Kantar Worldpanel Comtech. Android phones outsold all iPhone models for July, August and September. Smartphones themselves are booming in The UK, with 70% of all mobile sales being smartphones of one kind or another.

49.9 percent of all the smartphones sold in the territory over the 12 week period were running Android, compared to just an 18.5 percent share for the iPhone. The Blackberry platform hasn’t fallen from grace so dramatically in the UK, and has 22.5 percent of the market. According to Kantar Worldpanel Comtech’s estimate, 43.8 percent of the UK population owns a smartphone, meaning that almost a full quarter of the population owns an Android phone.

Caveats: this data doesn’t include the iPhone 4S, which will certainly spike the numbers in iOS’s favor for a few weeks. It also doesn’t represent an accurate picture of the mobile OS market as a whole ,as it doesn’t include iPods or iPads, or the small number of Android tablets out there. Apple is still kicking backside when it comes to mobile browsing – Safari has captured an impressive 62.2% of all mobile browsing, incorporating all iPhone, iPod and iPad models in the UK and elsewhere. Also, Android manufacturers typically report in terms of units shipped, not sold – Apple has an advantage there since a lot of their sales are direct to consumers.

Still, any way you slice it, Android is continuing to dominate in the smartphone arena. Here’s hoping that Ice Cream Sandwich will continue the trend when the Galaxy Nexus lands at the White Cliffs of Dover on November 17th.

ZTE Vivacity bound for T-Mobile in Europe

Posted: 01 Nov 2011 03:38 PM PDT

ZTE is making strides in its move into the mid-market, and the latest entry is the “T-Mobile Vivacity”. This little Gingerbread phone was spotted chilling at the Bluetooth SIG, though unfortunately there isn’t any hard info on it other than a standard 3G radio. However, if you look closely, you can see something that’s altogether too rare: vanilla Android.

That green-on-black clock and dock indicates that the Vivacity is running a stock Android interface, with no manufacturer customizations plastered on top. There’s clearly some T-Mobile apps as well, but for the most part it’s basic Gingerbread. Manufacturers like Motorola, HTC and Samsung all tend to modify the core Android experience with skins and tweaks, and in some cases that makes for a lousy experience. But here, at least, Europeans will have the pleasure of running a lean (if not particularly mean) machine.

Other than a minimum of manufacturer and carrier tweaks, there isn’t much to say about the Vivacity. The buttons appear to be capacitive, and it looks like it has a screen that could be anywhere from 3.5-4 inches. It’s probably, but not certainly, a standard slate phone. We’ll be sure to keep a lookout for any more news as it comes in, especially if it looks like the westernmost T-Mobile will get a chance at the phone.

Android Market version 3.3.11 rolling out with new settings, and new icon [Download]

Posted: 01 Nov 2011 03:27 PM PDT

Whoa another update to the Android Market appears to be rolling out today. While many are still currently on the new 3.1.5 version Google is now pushing a much improved Android Market v3.3.11 to get us up to speed above the latest 3.2.0 that leaked from Ice Cream Sandwich. This appears to be the absolute newest market from Google although we are hearing it wont play nice with Honeycomb so flash at your own risk. We have tons of new options and settings and I’m really like the auto-update only over wifi option for those larger games that take forever. More details and download link after the break.

Aside from the few UI tweaks and changes they have added some awesome new features or settings that many have been waiting for. Instead of manually making certain apps auto update now you can check one box for all, this is nice and about time they’ve added that one. We’re also seeing options to update over WiFi only for those bigger games. Just like Honeycomb apps we’ll now get the icon shortcut added right to our homescreens automatically, and you can opt out of that too of course.

Not only that but there is a new icon in the application tray for the Android Market, as well as the entire app having slightly smaller font. My personal favorite is the graph showing the rating and level of stars each particular app has received, now we’ll be able to actually tell how many people gave it a 1 star rating before we download. We are still enjoying the new market and will update once we notice any additional changes. More details are available at the source below. Download the new market at the link provided and let us know if you find anything else special or new.

Lenovo LePhone S2 prototype runs Android and Windows Phone 7

Posted: 01 Nov 2011 02:58 PM PDT

We still haven’t gotten a proper look at the original LePhone over here in les States, but the successor to Lenovo’s smartphone is already in the works. In a curious bit of software engineering, it looks like the phone can run Android and Windows Phone 7 in a dual-boot configuration. This isn’t any sort of super feat – modders do this sort of thing for kicks all the time – but it’s odd to see two competing platforms running on the same hardware even before an official release.

This is the first we’ve heard of the LePhone S2, and unfortunately it’s unlikely to land on American shored even when its release date comes about. The original was and is limited to Chinese carriers. Still, you never know when a company might want to break into a new market, and Lenovo has an established following in America with its computers, and recently, tablets. The S2 seen in these photos is probably just an engineering test bed, allowing Lenovo’s hardware and software teams to try out new things on components that will likely be shared across multiple models.

The S2 could be the first Windows Phone 7 device to run in China, but of course, it would be only one of many Android phones. If Microsoft allowed Lenovo to install a vanilla version of Gingerbread without Google authentication alongside Windows Phone 7, it could represent a serious value proposition. And why not – Microsoft is already making money off of Android anyway.

Motorola RAZR gets redesigned for China markets

Posted: 01 Nov 2011 02:51 PM PDT

What do we have here, is this the DROID X3 or just another variant of the newly announced DROID RAZR? We know the DROID RAZR is for the US and Verizon and Motorola was planning just a Motorola RAZR for international markets but here we have a completely redesigned model from the images that were just leaked. Obviously it shares a very similar design with the Kevlar rear and extremely thin 7.1mm body, but clearly things are a bit different here, see for yourself after the break.

The DROID RAZR was officially announced last month and we quickly received some hands-on time with it and you can see all of those videos right here. Apparently the model shown above has just cleared China’s equivalent of the FCC and will be headed to a few markets across China soon. Shown below is an image of the US model so you can see the difference.

Known as the Motorola MT917 the newly designed model will most likely share the same specs as the recently announced DROID RAZR. With a dual-core processor and the new 4.3″ AMOLED qHD display, 8MP camera on the rear making up that little hump and running on Android 2.3 Gingerbread. We’ve been told the DROID RAZR should see ICS very soon in 2012 and would expect the same for this too. From the front it resembles the Motorola Atrix if you ask me and the entire design goes back to the original shape they’ve used in the past instead of what we’ve been seeing from Motorola with tapered edges. Either way we don’t expect to see this outside of China, but was worth a look.

Galaxy Nexus may not be coming until after Black Friday

Posted: 01 Nov 2011 02:16 PM PDT

Bummer. Some recent internal documents are indicating that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Google’s next developer phone, the first device with Ice Cream Sandwich and pretty much the object of every Android fanboy’s desire, may not be arriving on the carrier until after Thanksgiving. A timeline for Verizon’s advertising campaigns put the Galaxy Nexus in the “Samsung Holiday Portfolio”, which will begin on November 28th, after the weekend of Black Friday.

The news isn’t all that surprising. Verizon has a ton of truly awesome phones landing at the same time: the DROID RAZR hits on November the 10th, the HTC Rezound will (probably) be announced on the 3rd, and according to the advertising calendar, hit retail or at least advertising channels on November 14th. That’s three major phones, any one of which could carry a manufacturer or wireless carrier’s smartphone campaign for six weeks or so. Verizon is probably staggering the Galaxy Nexus to give the DROID RAZR and HTC Rezound some time to rack up a few early adopter sales.

It’s not all bad news – at least we’ve got a more definite timeframe for the Nexus’ release, so those of us who’ll be shelling out $600+ off-contract (like your truly) can have time to soften the fiscal blow. Note as well that the two December campaigns for Samsung and Motorola say “Portfolio”, meaning we’ll probably get to see some other devices along with the current flagships. The DROID 4 and XOOM 2 seem like possible candidates for Motorola, while we can hope (and pray, and cross our fingers and such) that the Galaxy Note may be part of the Samsung portfolio.

Check out our hands-on looks at the Galaxy Nexus and Ice Cream Sandwich below:

Sphero: Android-Controlled Robotic Ball available now for pre-order [Video]

Posted: 01 Nov 2011 02:14 PM PDT

Who is ready for more Android-controlled robots? Today we present you with more details about that awesome robotic ball project called Sphero. We mentioned this unique product back in September and received some hands-on with Sphero shortly after, but today they are finally available for pre-order and soon you can enjoy one too.

This product may be new to many people so feel free to click the links above to understand Sphero a bit more, or head to gosphero.com for the full breakdown. Using your Android phone or tablet and a set of special applications you can completely control this little glowing ball of fury. It’s not much larger than your average pool ball, but it has full range of motion and speeds along the house or street quite fast. I just can’t wait to see how my dogs react. Sphero has even developed games such as golf as well as draw and drive, how awesome is that? We received hands-on at Pepcom and you can see that video below.

Sphero demo

Then for a quick demo of a few games that will be available for Sphero like mentioned above check out this awesome video. I’m excited to try golf once I get my own.

Since it was just Halloween and all we thought you’d like a little bonus video of Sphero on Halloween.

Pre-orders for the new Sphero ball went live this morning at 12:01 for a price set at $129.99 and it appears they sold pretty well as shipping now has been moved from December to early 2012 for any future pre-orders. This was the statement we received:

Paul Berberian, CEO:

We are really excited about launching pre-orders today. The team has been up since midnight making sure we are in front the community with everything running smoothly! We’re seeing a very high conversion from people who reserved early and quite the traffic coming in from the publicity. We would definitely recommend getting on top of pre-ordering if you want to received your Sphero before 2012.”

Again, to order your own just click here. While not available yet, Sphero will also be available on Amazon and the games should show up in the Android market when the device starts shipping to customers and a few of those will be called Sphero, Drive, Golf, SpheroCam, Draw N’ Drive, Blox, and Chromo. Many of those names are self explanatory and will be bundles of fun.

Be sure to stay tuned as I’ll be giving one a test drive in a full out review as soon as possible and will be sure to test out all the features, games, colors, and fun that the new Sphero robot ball has to offer.

LG Optimus U1 to be first LG phone tasting Ice Cream Sandwich

Posted: 01 Nov 2011 01:08 PM PDT

This sure looks interesting. What appears to be either an excellent render or some actual images of the new LG Optimus U1 have appeared. The device sure looks thin and apparently may end up being the very first LG phone to run off the new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. While the name U1 is most likely just a code name, we don’t have much else to go on so that is what we’re calling this sleek and thin device.

I don’t know about you guys but it looks quite similar to the Galaxy S II with a hint of LG around the edges. According to sources this will be the first device by LG offered with Ice Cream Sandwich, but then seeing that dedicated home button smack dab in the middle has me seriously doubting this already. Why put the big chrome button in the middle then launch with ICS, unless this is a phone coming soon that will get updated to ICS, then it would make more sense.

We don’t have any hardware specs to go off of, but looking at the leaked image I’d say we have a 4.3″ device here. We can clearly see the 8MP camera around back and the extremely thin and sleek design, but then I also see a few dots near that home button so it could be Android, but could also run Windows Phone 7 — just saying. One thing worth mentioning is that just because ICS has built in navigation and home buttons doesn’t mean manufacturers will move to no dedicated home buttons on all devices. So that doesn’t necessarily rule this out for ICS, but I do have my doubts.

What does everyone think? Will we start seeing all devices that ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich have no dedicated buttons, or will OEM’s still try to be different from the pack and include a few? We’d love to hear your thoughts or preferences.

Samsung HM7000 Bluetooth Headset available today, pairs with Android App

Posted: 01 Nov 2011 12:09 PM PDT

Samsung is at it again with another awesome and tiny bluetooth headset today. They’ve just announced nationwide availability of one of their newest and best headsets, the HM7000. With options to pair with their Android app, great battery life, and a sleek and fancy design this should make plenty of users happy. Plus, people living in cities like me that don’t allow use of cellphones while driving with no exceptions, this will really come in handy.

The new HM7000 has an all in one portable and practical charging and traveling solution shown in the image above. The charging cradle not only protects it during travel, but is extremely portable while also being lightweight and durable with chrome accents. The cradle then opens into the desktop dock for charging as it appears in the photos and closes shut for maximum protection when needed. Pretty fancy Samsung, I like it.

The new Samsung HM7000 is available now from Samsung and is also for sale nationwide at T-Mobile stores and online at T-Mobile.com as well as Radioshack starting next month. The HM7000 will retail for $99 but that includes the entire cradle and charging dock all in one solution. Samsung also offers their free Android app Freesync, that pairs nicely with all of their current bluetooth headsets to bring plenty of advanced options and more user features.

Shown above, FreeSync makes the headset more than just hands-free calling. You can set it to read emails, texts and more all with the advanced bluetooth capabilities offered. It has full voice command, prompt, and playback support and the text to speak options in the Android app are quite convenient also. Like most bluetooth headsets offered today we also have full music streaming via A2DP support. Again, the HM7000 is available now and starts at $99 from Samsung and T-Mobile with more retail options coming soon.

ACER Iconia A100 now available in Red

Posted: 01 Nov 2011 11:16 AM PDT

The popular little ACER Iconia A100 7″ Android tablet is now available in Red for those that want some brightness to their gadgets. Well, you could call it pink if you’d like. Over at Amazon.de they are now offering a red colored A100 for those interested in something different from the blue model originally offered.

For more information on this 7″ Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet you can enjoy our full review here. The A100 was the first Android 3.2 Honeycomb tablet and comes packing a 7″ 1024 x 600 resolution and the powerful NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core 1.0 GHz processor so you can take advantage of all those awesome THD games like the recently released SHADOWGUN and many others.

Currently available in both red or blue it will run users about € 302 to pickup. The red version is € 3.98 more than the blue for some odd reason but I’m sure that wont be too big of a concern. Maybe the extra colors warrant the higher price, especially if this will be a gift for a wife or mother this holiday season. It appears to only be available in Europe at the moment but hopefully we see this red version hit the US here shortly, more options are always better. Will you be buying the A100 in red, or is that too bright for you?
