Looking For A Few Good Codenames

Posted: 02 Dec 2011 12:08 PM PST

We need your help choosing a codename for our upcoming CUDA on ARM development kit.

Recently announced at the SuperComputing 2011 conference in Seattle, Wash., the CUDA on ARM development kit will enable programmers to easily write code for the next generation of powerful, energy efficient supercomputers. Fitting, as this same hardware – powered by the ARM-based NVIDIA Tegra 3 mobile processor and a discrete NVIDIA CUDA GPU – is being used in the Barcelona Supercomputing Center's world's first ARM-based supercomputer.

This NVIDIA CUDA on ARM development kit.

But, we need a name for the new kit. The name should reflect  the importance of this product in the future of energy-efficient supercomputing.  While CUDA GPUs have helped researchers discover breakthroughs in science and technology, CUDA GPUs with ARM processors will help scientists achieve even greater breakthroughs using supercomputers with sustainable power consumption. The kit may very well turn out to be the stepping stone to exascale architecture. As such, the name needs to be interesting, descriptive and memorable.

So the question is, will you help? What codename would you choose to call this gigaflop-packing, energy-lite development kit? Would it be something fuzzy, delicious or simply green?

If we use your suggestion, we'll make it worth your while.  You'll be one of the first to receive one of the development kits, free of charge. Plus, you'll score some serious bragging rights. If we don’t end up using a reader-submitted codename, we will pick a winner at random.

To participate, simply:

  1. Leave a comment on this blog with your suggestion for a name. Be sure to let us know why you think it's the perfect name for our new CUDA on ARM Development Kit.
  2. Email us at cuda@nvidia.com with your email address and the codename you submitted (for tracking purposes).

We'll be accepting your suggestions until 11:59AM on December 9th  2011. The winner will be announced either late December or early January.

So, think hard. But think fast. We can't wait to see all your great ideas.

Good luck!
