Mic Wright on Medal of Honor and why politicians will never learn The decision by EA to go ahead with letting players take control of the Taliban in Medal of Honor’s multiplayer mode continues to cause a storm. Now some politicians have got involved, our writer, Mic isn’t having any of it. Earlier in the week, Defence Secretary, Liam Fox called for Medal of Honor to be banned. “Of course the Defence Secretary, Liam Fox, was going to profess himself "disgusted" with Medal of Honor without ever having played the game”, Mic observed. “When it comes to gaming, most politicians see an easy target and even as MPs who grew up playing the NES and the Mega Drive make it to Parliament, that's not going to stop…” Mic went on to say that Mr. Fox should have bigger fish to cook up: “You'd think that Fox would have bigger issues to concern himself with. Say for instance the number of British service people killed and wounded in Afghanistan, the continued proliferation of nuclear weapons or deciding which overstretched part of the armed forces he'll cut. But no, he thought it was wise to pass judgment on a game he hasn't played and doesn't understand.” Of course it’s not the first time games have been called for a banning, but as Mic says, gaming is too often seen as a kids pastime, despite the fact many of those playing will be in their twenties. Politicians are too quick to condemn without having played, or even observed the games they profess need to be obliterated from society. What do you think? Was Liam Fox right to call for Medal of Honor to be banned? Andy Curzon ran the rule over the Vodafone Mobile WiFi that creates your own Wi-Fi hotspot anywhere. Andy loved the look of the device, along with its ease of use and reliability. All good, except, it’s not the cheapest around, what with Three’s MiFi rival. “It's only a price drop away from becoming a killer bit of kit, and if you have the lifestyle and gadgets to make good use of it, it's already a winner.” Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep: One of the best PSP games of this year? Earlier in the week I ran the rule over Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep. It’s a PSP-exclusive prequel to previous Kingdom Hearts games. If you love RPG games you’ll be sure to find lots of enjoyment in this PSP offering. It combines a well told story with some awesome combat. To discover the game’s full story you’ll need to clear it with all three characters, adding further longevity. One thing you’ll note from my review is that I found very little bad to say about it, so be sure to check out the full review. It’s one of the best PSP games around. Motorola Flipout: Delightful or a gimmick? The Motorola Flipout features a quirky rotating design and portrait QWERTY keyboard. Reviews ed, Ben Sillis hailed it as “a delight to use”. But what about its odd hinge mechanism. “If you can overlook the dappy design, the Motorola Flipout is otherwise every bit the match for the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro,” which Ben compared it to. Are in-ceiling speakers worth the effort? Yes, says James Collins, after his home got kitted out with the Opus OP365 in-ceiling speakers. “Carving holes in your ceiling to fit the Opus OP365 in-ceiling speakers might not win you any brownie points with your other half, but when you've got them up and running, you'll wonder how you ever lived without them. “Pulling up carpets and floorboards isn't nearly as daunting as it sounds either, but obviously the best time to install is during a new build or an extension. If you have the opportunity to fit them though, take it. You will not regret it.” Related posts:
