| Verizon Wireless Officially Announces the Droid Incredible Posted: 15 Apr 2010 09:31 AM PDT Well, there you have it, folks. Just as we reeled over an April 29th launch date, some screen shots of Best Buy inventory, and the official specification sheet, we now have official word from Verizon Wireless themselves that the Droid Incredible by HTC is now officially real. And, yes, it’s launching on April 29th. And, yes, it’s all the goodness we thought it was going to be.
As you’ve heard plenty of times before, the Droid Incredible by HTC features a 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display, Android 2.1, HTC’s Sense User Inteface, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 8GB of on board storage, and an 8MP camera on the back for those pictures you’ll definitely want to take. It also rocks an optical trackpad, the fan favorite of HTC as of late. The preorders will begin on April 19th, and it will indeed be in Verizon Wireless stores starting April 29th. The pricing starts at $199.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate, if you sign up for a new two-year agreement. You’ll also need to sign up for a data package, which they think you should sign up for $39.99 unlimited data and email. So, who’s going to start lining up? Full press release just below.

| Vodafone 845 Android 2.1 smartphone leaks Posted: 15 Apr 2010 07:02 AM PDT Details on a new, ultra-compact Android 2.1 smartphone have emerged, the Vodafone 845. As the name suggests, the handset is apparently headed to European carrier Vodafone, but going by the:unwired’s anonymous tipster it’s actually the handiwork of Huawei and is known elsewhere as the Joy.
As well as triband GSM/GPRS/EDGE and dualband UMTS/HSPA, the Vodafone 845 packs WiFi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1 and a 3.2-megapixel camera. We weren’t joking when we said it was small, either; with a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen and dimensions of 100 x 55 x 13 mm it’s actually a little smaller than the HTC Tattoo. Hardware controls include an optical joystick and a number of physical buttons, which should please those less enamoured with touch-sensitive keys, and apparently Vodafone’s 360 networking and app platform is preloaded along with the usual “Google Experience” apps. There’s talk of a Q2 2010 launch in Europe, but no word on pricing at this stage. |
| Droid Incredible’s Specifications Confirmed by Verizon Wireless Posted: 15 Apr 2010 12:13 AM PDT The Droid Incredible, formerly known as the HTC Incredible, has certainly seen a roller-coaster last few months, hasn’t it? From leaked images, to confirmations via Twitter, the device has been painted in one light or another all over the Internet for quite awhile. And, amongst all the rumors, we’ve patiently waited for official screenshots, and, ultimately, the specs sheet. We can finally say that we’ve got the last piece of the puzzle, folks: the official specifications as told by Verizon Wireless proper.
What should you expect come this April 29th? A 3.7-inch 480×800 WVGA OLED capacitive touchscreen, an 8MP camera on the back, Android 2.1 under the hood, HTC’s Sense User Interface, 8GB of internal memory, and that prodigal 1GHz Snapdragon processor running the show. You’ll also get a talk time reported at up to 312 minutes, and a standby time up to 146 hours. Pretty impressive numbers, especially for an Android device, and we can’t wait to see how accurate those numbers are. We don’t have long to wait before we all get our hands on this bad boy (if you’re going to get one, that is), and we’ve got to admit that having an official launch date makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Or, maybe it’s that 8GB of internal memory, along with that 8MP camera. We’re counting down the days — won’t you join us? [via Verizon Wireless] |
| Twitter Has An Android App In The Works Posted: 14 Apr 2010 07:07 PM PDT Twitter held a conference called chirp earlier today and Evan Williams announced they will launch their own Android app. Details of the app has not been mentioned, they could take over an existing app or develop their own. Since the beginning of Android, Twitter apps have been among the most popular apps available.
TwidRoid Pro is one of the best Twitter apps available and its one of the most popular Android apps on the market. There are a few others that have some nice features, the Twitter widget that comes with HTC Sense is also a great Twitter client. They have some tough competition in the third party apps but, last Saturday Twitter released very popular and highly polished Twitter application for the iPhone. This should be a free app whenever it does come to Android and from the looks of things, we may not have to wait long. Thanks for the tip, constellanation [via tech crunch] |
| HTC Hero Getting 2.1 At The End Of April: Confirmed Posted: 14 Apr 2010 04:37 PM PDT Sometimes just probing around pays off, a guy from ThisAndroidLife sent an email to HTC asking about some rumors he heard about the 2.1 update. Surprisingly, an HTC representative sent an email back letting him know exactly when to expect the update.
The statement above is from HTC. There you have it, straight from the horse's mouth. If you have the original Hero, you can expect this update by the end of the month. The rest of the Sense UI devices should be upgraded shortly after. |
