Pandigital Novel, $199 Android eReader Posted: 24 May 2010 08:02 AM PDT Pandigital is known for manufacturing some of the best digital photo frames. This time around they are offing a very affordable Android powered eReader dubbed the Novel. This device will set you back a mere $199 and ships in June.
The Pandigital Novel is an Android-powered e-reader with Barnes & Noble integration. This is somewhat of a surprise, the Novel is a direct competitor with Barnes & Noble's own eReader. It has a 7 inch display with Wi-Fi and multimedia capabilities. It looks similar to the iPad but this has a sleek white bezel and features 800×600 resolution. Specifications: * Operating system: Android (ARM 11 processor) Barnes & Noble will also allow the Pandigital Novel to use their LendMe feature. This allows users to share their eBook content with their friends for 14 days. If you're in the market for a good eReader that has a built-in Web browser, email, calendar, and alarm then the Novel be a perfect fit for you. And it will not break the bank if you're on a budget. Samsung Galaxy S, Has The Best Multi-Touch Screen Ever? Posted: 24 May 2010 07:19 AM PDT Multi-touch is a deciding factor for a lot of people when considering their next mobile phone. Android has not been known to be the best in this area. Most notable, the nexus One, has been perceived as having a subpar multi-touch display. Until know we've always heard that you have to choose between having a beautiful display or a very accurate multi-touch display. Samsung has brought them both together in the Galaxy S.
The screen on the Galaxy S is manufactured by a company named Atmel. The technical name for this display is the Atmel maXTouch, and this screen can handle up to 16 points simultaneously. It has a response time of 7 milliseconds which is 2-3 times faster than current multi-touch displays. This screen is expected to drastically limit or even eliminate miss touches, aka having your hand on the edge of the screen unknowingly. I am more and more impressed with this phone with every new tidbit of information that gets uncovered. This is probably the most unrated device of all time. If the "Hummingbird" GPU lives up to its rumors, which it most likely will since we've seen it in action, this will probably be the best handset of any kind on the market. Samsung is really good at making processors so the 1GHZ in this phone could pack in a few surprises as well. I can't wait to see this device stateside, in the mean time checkout the touch screen demo performed by Frandroid. |
Pre-Order the MyTouch 3G Slide Posted: 24 May 2010 06:41 AM PDT This handset will be available for in store purchase on June 2nd. Given the recent shortages with HTC Android devices this preorder may be your best bet in getting this handset in your hand on the day it's released. If you're lucky, you might even get it before June 2nd.
If you order online you will receive free shipping. You can get it for $179.99 with a new 2 year contract and a $50 mail-in rebate or $399.99 without a contract. This phone features a 600MHZ processor, 512 RAM, Expreeso UI with the infamous "Genius" button. Head over to T-Mobile and place your order now. |
Flash 10.1 vs Flash Lite – Video Posted: 24 May 2010 06:05 AM PDT Most of you hardcore vanilla Android fans may not know this but Flash support isn't a new feature that was implemented into Froyo (2.2). Sense UI has enjoyed Flash since its inception with built in Flash support. For the most part, Flash lite performed pretty well. Engadget has put together a head to head challenge between the newly release Flash 10.1 for 2.2 Nexus One's and Flash lite that is included with the 2.1 Desire. Who's going to be the winner?
Since the specs of the two devices are similar, this is a pretty even fight. HTC does have a slight advantage though, they have more experience with flash integration in their Sense devices. But, Froyo throws all of that out of the window. The Nexus One with Froyo has way better Flash performance than the Desire. The video was really smooth and fluid on the nexus while the same video had a few hiccups on the Desire. This is expected given the performance gains 2.2 presents to Android. In my experience with Sense devices, it's better to let the video load completely before playback that will eliminate most of the lag. So if you're looking for an Android handset and you the best Flash experience available at the moment, go with the nexus. |
Posted: 24 May 2010 01:29 AM PDT HTC’s EVO 4G smartphone has been rooted – before the handset is even in Sprint stores. A couple of keen Android developers – one of whom was given an EVO 4G as part of Google IO last week – have put their heads together and cracked open the WiMAX handset in record time.
In fact it took the three of them just a few hours to gain access to the open-source device’s low level functionality. Unfortunately they’re not sharing details of the exploit as yet, but we imagine that once the EVO 4G is generally available it won’t be long before we start seeing hacks and modifications. |
