I Want This Hanger

Posted: 24 May 2010 07:50 AM PDT

Something about the Axis stand hanger beckons me. There’s a fluidity in the minimalism I appreciate. I’m a sucker for hanger appeal and this could be my manic “fashion designer” personality coming out, but if clothes were presented well, nay HUNG well – the garment appeal increases exponentially. Okay, maybe not exponentially but you get the picture. The great thing about the Axis is even without proper hangers, the support arms already act like one. BANGARANG!

Unfortunately it’s a prototype only. I spoke with the designer and there’s definite interest in manufacturing it. All we need is someone to make them. ROLL CALL!

Dimensions – W 400 x D 1000 x H 1750
Materials – Stainless steel

Know Everything Happening In Your Home

Posted: 24 May 2010 07:44 AM PDT

AlertMe is an evolutionary step in home monitoring systems. Not the first of its kind but it did pick up first place at the Design Week Awards so that perked my attention. Thru a system of wireless hubs and attachments, every power aspect is tracked and properly relayed to a website you can check from any location. The system even detects motion so it doubles as a security system. Nice design and this one you can actually buy.

Does Spotted Towel Mean Measles?

Posted: 24 May 2010 01:30 AM PDT

Oftentimes we don't realize that a towel is soiled, especially the dark colored ones. Although designer Sang-hoon Lee uses a white towel to get his point across, I can picture this being used effectively on darker shades. Expression Dot is a concept where your towel starts sporting red dots (measles?) once it gets really soiled. It does the routine of starting from pale red to blood-red, but I'm sure you don't want to wait till it gets that dirty.

Although it's not explained how exactly this process will work…I mean getting red-when-dirty, but I can totally figure the need for it. I do my laundry every other day, but some lazy-slob friends on mine need constant reminders like this!

All Four On One Interactive Pad

Posted: 24 May 2010 01:15 AM PDT

InterPad was probably conceptualized way before Facbook privacy issues surfaced, so I'm going to ignore that function till the dispute is settled. For this is an all-in-one controller that allows you to surf between Facebook (everyone's moving!), Youtube, iTunes, and webcam with easy. Music, video, camera and games can be configured and downloaded via the easy hotkeys. Basically for those who are into the web world just for entertainment purposes. Sit down, relax and let the fun-times begin.

Concrete Memory, Get Totally Cemented

Posted: 24 May 2010 01:00 AM PDT

Using concrete for tech products is almost unheard of, so this Memory Weights USB Stick crafted from cement comes as a pleasant surprise. I really dig the way the capacity of the USB is branded into the block. Just to add a fun twist; the weight of the block is similar to the capacity in terms of grams…so simple and elegant, yet rugged!

Thread that Lights Up

Posted: 24 May 2010 12:17 AM PDT

Illuminating! LT, look at this! London based textile designer Kathy Schicker’s got a fabulous collection of color changing and light emitting textiles. No joke. Some of them react to sunlight when they see it, some of them react to the absence of it once it’s gone. Color changes in the daytime, color emitting in the night. They’re a matching of textiles, design, scarf wearing and science – pure, fabulous, wonderful science!

The project here Kathy Schicker’s working on is created by weaving smart fibers in with Jacquard textiles or by printing with smart inks. Schicker’s collection is also aimed at high-end fabric for interiors. So probably no scarves yet. Sorry I misled you there. We’ll have to make bootlegs.

Pillows and lampshades, curtains and couches. These are the objects in this collection, and of the TRON of the future. Because you know that’s what I’d be doing with them.

TRONning it up. All night. All day.

These Woven Light fabrics are currently available as bespoke products direct from Schicker. Contact her at her webpage at kathyschicker.com or go to Puff and Flock!

Frontpack for Search and Rescue

Posted: 24 May 2010 12:10 AM PDT

How would you like to use some rescue technology that incorporates infrared sensors, sensitive directional audio microphones, communication, navigation and medical guidance to help with the wild, wild situations you get in as a rescuer! It’s called “SixthSense for Search and Rescue” and it’s designed by Dieter Amick. Designer Dieter Amick designed the heck out of these packs and they are wild, wild, fantastic and undeniably shiny.

You got it up there, you got it workin nice. It’s like a fanny pack (know what that is?) but it’s got a computer in it. It’s a laptop, but it flips down and projects. All your little gear gets held in there like knives and candy bars, and it’s not so big it’ll get in your way.

I’d wear one of these across town!

I’d get beaten up though.

But I’d have medical equipment!

Sharpen Pencil, Get Eraser

Posted: 24 May 2010 12:02 AM PDT

So you’ve got a pencil and you need it sharp. You need it so sharp that you’d be able to draw a really sharp picture of your favorite Yanko Design design. That’s right, you could draw the Dew Capturing Pyramid, the doo doo weighing toilet seat, or the wishbone MP3 player. Draw it. Sharp pencil, and woo! You get a bonus with this little mama. You get an eraser made out of the wood you chopped off the pencil.

Eraser! It’s like using the whole bison.

You know the folks who came here before the Spanish and those people from the UK, they had a bunch of tribes and clubs and groups that basically all hunted and used all kinds of bison. They used the WHOLE thing. They used the bones, the fur, the meat, and the eyeballs!

And now, these fabulous folks you see in the designer slot below this paragraph, they’re doing the same thing with a pencil. First you plug this device in, then you sharpen the pencil, your turning of the crank smashes and squishes that wood into an eraser for you too! Yay!
